These names do sound very Lucas inspired. Biggs Darklighter. Wedge. Snoke. Funniest of them all is a chubby guy named Porkins.

To me, Plagueis is just a short episode in the prequel trilogy. A pretension to bring Anakin to the dark side, nothing more.
And, I simply don´t believe someone fakes his death and after 65 years decides Now is the time to.....to what???? Palpatine needed 10-15 years to rule the Galaxy for another 25 years.....No one gets any younger, not even a Sith Lord. Why would he waited 65 years to achieve.....what? Being Supreme Commander for a bunch of so called New Order? Seemes o´Sheev was way more succesful....

Why would anyone hide that he´s a Sith Lord? The republic is no more. More important - Jedi order is no more. Those who knew who were the Sith in the first place. Just 20 years after the ord republic and end of jedi order it was just an ancient religion no one cared or believe. And we are talking here about 10 thousands jedi and widely known order, not one or two Sith who nobody saw more than 1000 years and only the Jedi remember they once existed. Now decades after I wonder if anyone would know what Sith means or care at least...

While I have little doubt these guys are 'sith' or at least sith obsessed, having the sith return throws the prophecy into question.

You know, this is something that has always bugged me about the Plaeguis theories.. If he found a way to cheat death, why doesn't he find a way to take Palpatine out? The hiatus it simply too long to become workable into the plot for Episode VII.

I am not a DP fan but my thinking on this is that he needs help. Like a relic hunter knocking over his urn. Or his undeadness requires time for his power to grow to a level of potency before he is able to take form, or possess a form that he could act.

Snoke or Snorte or whatever reminds me of the 1980s era NBC cartoon rip-off of The Smurfs: The Snorks.

This simple one syllable villan name seems dorky now but who knows.
Thank the Maker it's not Jar-Jar!

Why does palpatine mention that only one has cheated death if it has no relevance?

I'm not sure about this plagueis returns idea, but if it were true then it seems evident that his physical body died yet the spirit remains; Possibly capable of possession of a sort. Probably weakened in a fashion similar to a voldemort, and waiting for an opportunity to strike back which obviously would be after palpatine perished. Anyway, snoke is obviously a surname and likely a dark force user and would be Sith. With all Sith dead any wannabes would need to get Sith relics like holocrons if they expected to learn any Sith ways or powers.

Right, I initialy thought some sort of binding of him to a location, akin to Exar Kun, would be the route to go. But then I reminded myself that in this new canon IIRC the sith are not capable of force ghosting.(another annoying pigeonhole from the PT). So he has to find a way to 'ressurect' almost instantaniously in order to avoid destruction. Am I thinking wrong on this?

And don't forget that the film needs to end on a cliffhanger in order to keep the hype ball rolling. Some characters are going to die and the future will remain uncertain for others. Pretty simple.

Is it "confirmed" Snoke is the "Supreme Leader"?
Does that imply the leader of The First Order?
I've eaten a lot of tacos & pizzas that claimed to be supreme but were far, far from it!

I don't think a cliffhanger is necessary to keep the hype rolling. Star Wars is gifted with a near litmitless supply of hype. Simply saying "new Star Wars movie" starts the craze.
Starwars7news.com was up and running the day Episode VII was announced.

I've sensed a Great Underwhelming in the Force. Should Old Snoke be our next "uber" villain, he'll need a better full name. . .

So, Snoke it is. Anyone have some ideas about how his full name might be a bit more iconic and a little less like the person who does your paperwork at the DMV? Could the First Order have a "first names first" policy and Snoke is the new Sheev? What's a good accompaniment to our new bestie Snoke?

    - Everdructa Snoke?
    - Snoke HammieJammieJammie?
    - R4G7 Snoke Edition?
    - The Sith Lord Formerly Known as ______________, Snoke?
    - Darth Snoke?
    - Severus Snoke?
    - Snoke Lion (or Snoke Doggie Dog)?
    - Snokle the Lesser?
    - The Big Snoklowski?
    - Snoke Zeppelin?
    - Lil' Snoke?
    - Gaius Julius Snoke Caesar?

Get back to me with your best Snokes!

I keep thinking that as this is the first of a new trilogy, it should end with a celebration of sorts, just like TPM and the award ceremony in ANH. The cliffhanger comes in the 2nd one, like in Empire Strikes back

I think it is quite a leap to assume we know how the First Order operates. Perhaps Palpatine is seen as the man who caused the downfall of the Empire, and as such they do not want a Force user ruling them; Kylo being a Vader-like figure makes sense, but they all think he's answering to a "normal" person like Snoke. Or, the whole thing is a ruse to lure out the last of the Jedi: let them think he is defenseless, then strike when they come after him. Either situation would be very underhanded, very Sith-like.

"Evidence" is a loose term here. This is my theory (Plagueis is Snoke), and here is my "evidence." Yes, it is speculative, but that speculation has to have a base in something; it's been called a plot hole by others, but to me it is evidence in support of my theory. What you're referring to would be "concrete details", of which we admittedly have few, hence why there is so much speculative. :p

This is assuming that Plagueis "died" and instantly came back to life at full strength. The Force is a cosmic energy, I doubt it operates on a "human" timescale; Plagueis could have been dead for years, only to awaken and find himself at a serious disadvantage against his former apprentice. It would conceivably then take quite a while to form a new identity, reacquaint himself with galactic events, and begin plotting his comeback. Or maybe he accepted his defeat and was in a sort of exile until he found a new apprentice/puppet in Kylo Ren and decided it was time to strike. We have over 30 years of backstory to learn about before the events of TFA happen, there could be all sorts of explanations as to what Plagueis was doing and why he adopted the Snoke persona. (P.S.: Plagueis is/was a Muun, who already have much longer life spans than humans; add the Force to the equation, and it doesn't really matter how old he is if he reappears. "When 900 years you reach, look as good you will not, hmmm?"

The idea that Plagueis can't be Snoke simply because Palpatine said he was dead is ludicrous to me. Could he truly be dead? Sure (though, if you are familiar with the Legends EU, what Sith Lord ever truly stayed dead?). But to say there is no way to make his comeback make any sense or fit within the canon is an extremely limiting opinion, in my own humble opinion.

Don't know if this has been brought up but isn't "Supreme Leader" the title that they call Kim Jong in North Korea? I'm fairly sure that's his title. It would be interesting to see if the First Order was inspired by the North Korean government. Such as the way they spread propaganda about the power of the "Supreme Leader" and about how they are the "greatest nation in the world" when in reality their people are living in squalor...
