Sorry... taking The Force and breaking it in two(of which Rey is an instrument of one and not the another), is so ludicrous we have hit peak LucasFilm/SW stupidity. It shouldn't even qualify as a spoiler, but come with a warning that the writer was drunk at the time they wrote it.

The sad truth is, I could have come to terms with some decisions I did not like in the beginning.

* Rey not beeing Luke's daughter. (ok not my favorite constellation, but I would have accepted it in the end if Luke had properly trained her)
* Luke having only a small role in the whole trilogy (yes, again not my favorite handling, but if Luke's legacy would have been untouched, I could live with it)

But what I cannot accept is the character assassination of Luke Skywalker, Luke not training his last hope to restore his Jedi legacy, Rey superheroe with no flaws, Reylo, boring new characters and Luke dying alone. That's just too much.

I agree about the "character assassination" of Luke Skywalker and his misuse/under use. It really ruined the sequel trilogy for me and I suspect a lot of other people. With Han, Luke + Leia gone, I just don't care anymore. This isn't the sequel trilogy people wanted and the huge backlash to TLJ is a clear indication of that.

When Yoda appears in The Last Jedi, Luke is threatening to burn down the old tree containing the sacred Jedi texts. Yoda does him one better, striking it with lightning and insisting that the books don’t contain anything Rey doesn’t already possess.

But as naturally gifted as Rey is with the Force, the truth might be a little more complicated. A blink-and-you’ll-miss it shot near the end of The Last Jedi reveals that Rey grabbed those old books when she left Luke’s little planet. And to what end? It’s possible that the books are just a nod to the long history of the Jedi, and to Rey’s devotion to keeping the old ways alive.

But what if it’s something more? If I had to guess, I’d say there’s one Last Jedi secret that might turn the tide of the battle—and that Rey will discover a hint of it in one of the old books, spinning her off on a new quest in Episode IX.

In fact I think the hint is in front of our nose.

In The Last Jedi , Luke Skywalker is putting his hand on a page in one of the books which contains, well a symbol of the Force, and a special kind of coordinates obviously written in by someone in ancient times. He is doing so by saying to Rey" you have seen this place".....(Rey showed obvious interest, actually a call from this books literally.)

What this could be?
What is this?

Now let us forget this for a moment and recall reference about something precious, seomthing another important and powerfull Star Wars character once desired.

Darth Sidious, Emperor Palpatine.

"From the novel Aftermath"
"Palpatine felt that the universe beyond the edges of our maps was where his power came from. Over the many years he, with our aid, sent men and women beyond known space. They built labs and communication stations on distant moons, asteroids, out there in the wilds. We must follow them. Retreat from the galaxy. Go out beyond the veil of stars. We must seek the source of the dark side like a man looking for a wellspring of water.”

This story becames very interesting after episode VIII, what could be that what mighty Palpatine felt is the source of powerf(The Force) caming from beyond the know galaxy?

Everyone thought this source of Power was Snoke... well it appears ...SNOKE was not this "source"

This source of power was something else.

What if power means KNOWLEDGE?
Knoweldge is greatest power.

This becames interesting because here is what Luke Skywalker has found in one of Palpatine's Observatories.

In 4 ABY Emperor Palpatine was killed during the Battle of Endor.
Shortly after the battle, Luke Skywalker traveled to planet Pillio.
Luke felt called to Pillio by the Force.
On the planet was secret palpatines observatory containing vault.
In this vault Skywalker fround a mysterious compass, for which he felt was important.

The compass has intriguing markings that corespont to markings on the ancient jedi book we talked about.

On Ben Solo's (!) night table (!) that night Luke has "visited him" in backflash(!):

Story about Lew'el:

From the canon novel" Legends of Luke Skywalker".

Luke once visited an ocean world named Lew'el.
The settlers of Lew'el first came to the world eons ago, before either the Republic or the Jedi had come into existence. They believed in the Tide, another word for the Force. The Tide's ebb and flow held sway over the entire galaxy, and there were some who sought to control the Tide for their own ends. In response, those who knew how to feel the Tide banded together and traveled to Lew'el, to keep their knowledge out of the hands of those who would use it. Over the generations, the people of Lew'el settled into life on this new, mostly aquatic planet. There were few islands dotting the surface, but the oceans provided everything one could possibly need to survive. In addition, there were large, four-winged creatures known as wind-trusters, that the people domesticated. Wind-trusters could spend virtually the entirety of their lives in the air, dipping down to the ocean only to feed. The people used wind-trusters as mounts to travel the planet and fish from the oceans.

During one such fishing trip, the main character of the story nearly died when her wind-truster was killed in a storm. She was saved by Luke, who just happened to be coming to the planet, and caught her on his X-Wing as she fell from the sky. Luke returned her to her village, where he then sought out the elder and asked to be taught in the ways of the Tide. There were many parallels to this training sequence and the training he received from Yoda, but with some stark differences as well. While the Jedi constantly went on about the Dark Side, and shied away from it, the people of Lew'el believe that the ebb and flow of the Tide are both essential parts of the Tide as a whole. You can't have one without the other. For every flow, there must be an ebb. They also adamantly believed that one must never use the Tide, unlike the Jedi and Sith. To the people of Lew'el, the Tide is something to be felt, something that can carry and guide you, or sink you at a moment's notice. It's not something to be tamed and controlled. There was a lot of tension between Luke and the elder over this particular aspect of belief. At first, the elder refused to teach an outsider, but after much convincing, the elder agreed to put Luke through all the same trials that a member of their society would be put through to see if they're worthy of learning the ways of the Tide.

As Luke learned more about the Tide, he was given three trials. These trials were each pretty interesting,

The first trial was called "Cloud-walking," Luke was visiting, a large mountain was barely poking out from the ocean. All around the entire island were gas vents, pouring breathable air from the crust up to the surface. The trial was to dive under the water, and walk a complete lap around the mountain without resurfacing, using the air vents on the ocean's floor to sustain one's self. When all was said and done, Luke completed this trial in about an hour, if I remember correctly (Entertainingly enough, Luke "cheated" on this trial, using his robes to catch as much air from the vents

The second trial took far longer.

Luke had to learn how to ride a wind-truster and to circumnavigate the entire globe with the help of a guide, the girl he saved at the start of the story. This one took Luke over a month, and much of the difficulty came from learning how to act as one with his mount, as well as finding ways to sustain himself. It was a very physically taxing trial, far harsher than anything Yoda put him through, from what I've observed.

The third trial is oward the end of Luke's flight around the planet, he reached a dead-zone in the air, where the air currents made it extremely difficult for the wind-trusters to fly. As a result, in this area of the ocean, most of the wind-truster's favored prey gathered here. The third trial was to let the Tide to guide your actions, allowing you to spear one of the most rare species on the planet, a fish with golden scales. The twist? The spear that had to be used was over a kilometer long. At the beginning of the trial, Luke tried using the Force to guide his actions, much like how a Jedi might use the Force to guide their lightsaber in combat. However, each of these attempts failed. It was only when he stopped trying to use the Force and simply followed its will, allowing it to guide him, that he succeeded in the task (though ultimately he released the fish, technically failing the trial).

After the trial was failed and he returned to the village, he recounted to the elder all of the things he'd already learned of the Tide from the trials themselves, and was told he had learned all they could have taught him, even though he technically did not succeed. They also told Luke he was welcome to return to the planet any time.

What if Lew'el is the Source of power(knowledge) Palpatine was searching for, and Luke has visited once?

By the description, planet is farthest from the center of the galaxy as possible.

This planet system could be, judging from Compass features, actualy moving relative to the galaxy, extremly difficult to be found.

Jet, Rey has the information in the book, and would came back on Ahch-To to and find Luke's compass maybe?

I think Rey will visit this planet. she did dreamed about-the islands (which means the sea).

If your theory gets enough support, expect JJ to troll you with a pic or meme telling you your theory sucks. TLJ killed fans love of delving into the possibilities.

Not only is it ridiculous and silly but you have to read the novel to gain any understanding of where they've gone with the Force.

They did coordinated their work, Daisy Ridley said today that J.J Abrams actually made a script for ep VII, but also VIII and IX to, so the skeleton (frame) story of the entire trilogy exists from the start actually.

And within this "frame" they released books like Legends of Luke Skywalker and compass story in this book and Battlefront II to, and talk about "source of power from beyond known galaxy" in the Aftermath, and about Lew'el which gives me some hope.

I do , however,indeed, fear every day to see J.J.Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy picture themselwes with "Your episode IX theory sucks" ,though...

If they teached us anything,it is that they are ready to throw away(I hope as a mock up) best theories (and amongst millions of fans there must be few 160 IQ old fans with creativity and inquiry talents,hopefully ) only to make it " what would be for dudes most hard to hear", even if this "most hard to hear" makes millions of fans do not take it as a twist jet get cramps in the stomach and can't accept such thing even 3 months after the film( and probably never would if not changed).That includes mr John Williams.

Yes I fear of "lets give them another one ".

Untimately, since after they deleivered 2 drunkard radomers, they are again relativisng Rey parents (Rian Johnson himself says its not absolute, John Williams hopes.....) repeating Rey 2 drunkards randmers in ep IX would be actualy another one even more vicious blow.

As a viewer of the film you shouldn’t have to read the novel to know this information. Someone who just watches the film would pretty much have no idea what the Cosmic or The Living Force is. It’s fairly confusing even if you have read the novel.

I agree its ambitious that film,in order to be understood, requiers book knowledge,jet..it could be sign that additional clarifications would come in ep IX,and is signal that real scenario is complex,not cheap one.

I meant more the movie novels should not be needed to explain important things and instead 1-2 sentences in the movie. Novels are only there to expand the existing storyline, but not exchange/replace it.

I love your explanation, but the question is if JJ goes this way. We had so many good ideas before TLJ came out where his story may go. I'm right now just sceptical about everything good coming for Luke's character going forward (hope you understand this). If I'm proven wrong, I would be the happiest person ever.

I do think the books contain knowledge but as Yoda said, nothing that Rey doesn't already know. Rey doesn't know that though. She went for help, didn't get much from Luke so she checked out some books from the local, branch library she thought would help. Don't think it is much more than that.

Not "know," but "have." She has a spirit of a true Jedi, as Snoke says during their encounter, but she still has a lot to learn. And books will contain the information that she needs to learn in order to gain whatever abilities she will posess in IX.

Not to mention the backbone of the fan community and the only actor who cared enough about the fans to attend conventions and fanmeetings over the decades. Mark Hamill is the true highlight of every SW convention. I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to hear him talk about Luke if he actually liked what they did with his character.
