thought it would have been fitting to see Ben's force ghost with Luke and Leia at the end.

If you want a 'PROPER' swashbuckling Star Wars film than TROS nails it. It is a fun and visually brilliant Star Wars movie. That is what Star Wars is all about.

If you want depressive intergalactic boredom where Luke goes 'fishing' then the 'The Last Jedi' nails it. But that is not Star Wars.

The critics (the ones that get paid) have really lost the plot when it comes to Star Wars. Why are they voting this down ? TROS is a 4/5 film. IT WAS FUN !!! If you want 'educated' sci fi then watch 'The Expanse'. You won't get much better than that. If want a 'perfect movie' then watch 'Le Man 66'.

I'm 46 and my son is 10 and we both really enjoyed this film. JJ managed to satisfy two age groups.

If I recall well ghost's Leias is her at young age. Why is that? Why not an old Leia like Luke? Some symbolism that I missed?

Just an odd choice. Like Young Anakin being put in ROTJ.

Agree with the horrible participation of Hayden in ROTJ (So glad that he didnt show up in the sequels). But in TROS maybe JJ was trying to tell us something.

I actually think he would have fit A LOT better than a few other cameos...but I digress.

I wouldn't call her young, but she certainly appears younger than she does in TFA. She's old, but her hair still has colour. It's reminiscent of Luke's appearance on Crait.
Most likely this is how she looked when raising Ben, and that's what she wants to remember. The time she spent with her son? Idk. Would fit considering she only fully passed on after her joined her.

Ok. But the conection here is with Rey. And Rey met her when she was old, so the most appropriate appearance would've been in an old form. This is why I think JJ is trying to tell us something.

Ps. My cousin said that Leia at the end is an old Leia but with the classic clothes of ANH. Proced?

Just got back from seeing it. It totally looks like they used Leia from TFA and put white a Jedi robes on her for the scene.

I just got back from the film and couldn't be happier. Plot wise, this franchise was painted into such a corner after TFA and TLJ. The fact that Abrams managed to make such a satisfying conclusion is a darn near miracle. The only scene in the whole movie that I thought was a bit of a let down was the very last one. But, overall, I am thrilled with how things played out.

I liked it. A few things took me out of the movie though. Palps just had to say "gooood" and "do it" ("because that's what he says guys, remember??! Remember how he says that??") and Luke with the "Jedi weapons deserve more respect" thing. Don't talk to your audience.

Other than those sorts of things (and one I dare not mention) it was a good conclusion to the trilogy for sure. Palpatine's plan post RotJ still intrigues me and I really want to delve into it more. I really love the idea that the old Sith master that is killed becomes a part of the killer. Now we know why Palps always wanted to trade in his old apprentices for the newer stronger model and then poke and prod them until they want him dead.

I do wonder how I would have felt had I not read all the spoilers before seeing it but I regret nothing.

EDIT: I'm sure this cloning stuff has ties to the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda (maybe he's more Yoda than we think!)

I am going to try to explain my thoughts, I enjoyed big part of the movie, specially the first and second act, but I sensed that all the thrill was out in the third act, which is supposed to be the best so I left the cinma very conflicted. My thoughts are still unclear and I would like if someone could reply giving furhter explanations...SPOILERS AHEAD. I am going to add that I think I know almost all the New Canon material regarding to ST (Aftermath, Bloodline, Resistance Reborn, Poe Dameron´s comics, Allegiance comic´s, Shattered Empire, Battlefront 2... I haven´t read Phasma, Canto Bight or watched Resistance but I don´t think they are important to TROS)

1.- The opening crawl was a bit strange, it settles the plot from the beginning and requires you to buy the idea, if not, you are instantly out. Palpatine is back from the first minute, buy it or not. It felt too rushed to me(as the whole movie)

2.- The answer for Snoke...alright, it was a Palpatine´s clon, that was unsurprising but I think it was a poor answer. Why did this particular clon among all of them rule the FO? Was he keeping Palpatine´s will or was he a freelance?

3.- I liked very much the chemistry of the trio, the locations, planets and lore, OST and the adventure movie tone. The humor also felt better settled than in TLJ.

4.- Rey Palpatine. Ok. Another lack of explanation I think...

a)Was her father a powerful force user? I know it seems to not matter, but if he was, the existance of a powerful force user living during the OT, because he had been coexistent to Luke and Leia, seems a bit strange.
b)Did Kylo completely know it in TLJ and lied to Rey or discovered it at the beginnig of TROS?
    c) When did Palpatine discovered Rey or her father?

I think this is the core of the movie and the lack of context is a bit frustrating, I could more or less deal with it in TLJ as long as we were one movie left but now...

    5.- Maz Kanata and Anakin´s lightsaber, a good question...for another moment...in another comic...or book...or game...or disney plus.

6.- Han being a memory. He can´t be a forceghost of course, but I don´t know if I have missed something or what, Is he in Kylo´s mind, advising and forgiving him?Is that somewhats a force power? Is Leia manipulating him? Deus ex machina? If anyone can give some light about it I will preciate.

7.- Lightsaber duels are the best of ST and ones of the top of the entire saga.

8.- Rey´s parents ship. As long as I have understood, their killer stole them the ship after killing them and afterwards head to Pasaana to look for the dagger? Why he wanted the dagger? If he was working for Palpatine, he should already know to find him isn´t it? The plot is very rushed, I am sure that I have missed a lot of things and I want to know whther there is plotholes or not.

9.- How many sith locators are? One in the second Death Star, Kylo has another one...

10.- The third act. Here is when I think the movie goes down, but I am not sure.
a)Palpatine´s plan... He gives the order to Kylo to kill her, although he really wants to possess her and become her Empress... What could have happened if Kylo really managed to kill her before their meeting? Why did he ordered Kylo to kill her?
    b) Are the hooded people former siths?
    c) I assume the sith ritual is what he learned from Darth Plagueis...is there any direct reference or do we have to assume it?
    d) Why are Kylo and Rey connected?

11.- The final space battle. I don´t understand a thing, the are ships that have to destroy things for deactivate things for other ships can get in the battle and cotinue destroying things... I don´t get the plan.

12.- THE BIG TROUBLE. Who is the chosen one now? Are there more than one? Is it Anakin? Is it Rey now? Both? In ROTJ we didn´t know that Palpatine had a contingency plan(as explained in Aftermath), but now that we know it, how can we be sure that he has gone forever?

I insist, I enjoyed the movie in its two firsts acts... But due to all that plot doubts I don´t know what to think yet.

    So, some random thoughts:

The movie definitively answered some "burning" questions like who's Rey related to, what Darth Vader started and Snoke's identity. Yet it also created a ton of new ones, for the books and comics to answer, fans to speculate (and "fans" to Vhlor about on Youtube).

Han's cameo was 100% the best and most powerful scene in the movie. It brilliantly mirrors the Han's death scene in TFA and gives Ben Solo a chance to make the right choice this time. That's why his final redemtion works for me.

Poe was a smuggler? When was that? Before he became a NR military pilot?

Zorri Bliss, Jannah, Hux and Rose Tico needed way more screen time, then they've got. Especially Hux.

After I slept on it, I now partially understand how some people felt after TLJ. Only I am not angry. And I am not going to shout, I promise. :D

I am disappointed. I liked every new movie more or less, but I liked them. To be meh about Star Wars is heartbreaking.

And I apologize if I jump from thing to thing, from like to dislike, the second viewing will probably settle my thoughts. However you feel about TROS, the second viewing IS A MUST.

I enjoyed a lot of this movie even if I had to turn my brain during a good chunk of it. But, I enjoyed it the way I enjoy any other popcorn movie (don't think about it, don't think about it...). The actors have made certain things a lot better. Their chemistry was wonderful. I liked the additions, ladies were lovely.

The fan service was like this for me: first I liked it, than I started seeing 3D check list on screen, then I had to let it go. When I saw Wedge, I rolled my eyes and started laughing. But Han's appearance and his scene with Ben, tears man, tears. I loved it.

I liked that Leia started Ben's redemption and I was generally happy how they treated Leia. The first Lando's appearance brought tears to my eyes.

My biggest, biggest gripe with the movie is that it is completely shallow, if it wasn't Star Wars it would be one of those movies you start watching when it appears on TV while cleaning house. The root of the problems are mystery boxes of TFA. We had to have an array of complementary things to explain it. TROS will produce even more: explaining Palpatine, Rey Palpatine, explaining Force, explaining... we will at least get Poe/Zori book in the next six months, Palps trilogy will be announced and then we will go from there.

Rey Palpatine was the cheapest Reddit ripoff I never imagined, lol. In all that mess, I thought the fact that her parents were nobodies by choice was not the bad choice. (Oh, another trilogy of books right there.)

Star Wars original stories are simple - not in the idea and concepts department - but in the way they were told. You can tell the summary of each movie in a couple of sentences. This requires a short novel.

I loved the music. Babu Frik was the cutest thing since Baby Yoda.

I didn't like that JJ forgot what Finn wanted to tell Rey - we all know, but general audience? (Another book on the way.) Oh, Finn is not unique because he left FO, it's because he is Force sensitive. SO WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY SO IN TFA? Mystery boxes can burn. Sorry, I promised not to shout. :p

On the other hand, this is the first time I could see the possibility of ReyBen (not ReyLo), but I still liked the resolution. In that scene, I was afraid that some of the rebels were going to show up and shoot him to protect Rey, this was a lot better, he went like a Jedi.

Yup, both TFA and TLJ are better movies. And I want Rian's non-Saga films more than ever.

(A LOT) More on Sunday, after my second viewing.
