I don't think TFA needed an extra Threepio-gets-his-arm-back scene. Threepio mentions to BB-8 something about replacing his arm, and then he does. Do we need more?

    two more things....

    1. How Ren and Hux compete for Snokes approval. Both are like children trying to be the favorite son. What's scary is I think Hux is more ruthless than Ren.

    2. The First Order and even Snoke are noticeably more disorganized than the Empire. Palpatine had a plan and executed to perfection, where Snoke listens to Hux and Kylo. I wonder when Snoke would have used the weapon if Hux didn't suggest it. Between the three of them, I think one of them tries to kill the other in Episode 8.

Agreed. Just like we didn't need to see Artoo rebuilt in ANH.

Ok fair enough. If Luke isn't her father, than i'm with you. But the way her story intertwines with Luke's and how his saber (and Aniken "Skywalkers" before him) called to Rey, it's safe to assume that Rey is Luke's daughter. (Plus the whole thing with the Disney 3.0 game, where it sounds like Kylo calls Rey his cousin)

I think it's entirely possible that Rey was mind wiped, but it isn't lazy. People complain about how Rey got used to her powers so quickly. This would explain why this happened. She was already trained to use the force at a young age. Her mind could have been wiped of her memories, and her knowledge of her force abilities. The "awakening" was a power that had laid dormant inside Rey for years, until she was exposed to the force again.

    Here are some facts:
    - TFA is 30 years after ROTJ
    - Rey is 19, 5 when her parents left, born 11 years after the battle of Endor (source: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rey)

She was left at 5. Which means she was left 16 years after ROTJ.
During that 16 years, Luke built his Jedi Academy, and had a child, Rey.

Using this info, i would be really interested in hearing your theory :) If you think Rey is Lukes daughter of course, if not, who's Rey's parents, and how does it interact with the timeline???

I think Rey is Luke's daughter because I feel like they did everything BUT tell us she's his. I think when Luke found out he was going to be a father, he hid his wife and unborn child on Jakku and had Lor San Tekka keep en eye on them. I think it will be revealed that Lor and Luke went on adventures together and were close friends. Luke knew that if his enemies were to find out he had "any offspring" they would hurt them to get to Luke. I believe Luke already took Ben Solo as his apprentice and sensed too much dark side conflict in him, another reason his nephew couldn't know he had a child on the way. When Ben turned and destroyed Luke's jedi, his wife went to find Luke and was also killed. After that Luke had nothing left. He couldn't be with his daughter and he failed his wife and students.

Again, just a theory. I'm having a hard time believing he had a wife since Han doesn't mention anything about that when he explained why Luke left. Maybe he knows who Rey is and did't want to say too much. Rian Johnson can go so many ways with this. I can't want to find out.

With all the other costume changes (Rey, Leia, Finn, Poe), it's not hard to imagine C-3PO could swap his arm out, especially after he mentioned his intention to do so during his first appearance...

Did Han need to mention Luke having a wife or children? It sounded like was giving Finn and Rey the "short version" of things.

It's not like Han even mentioned the bit about his son being the one who betrayed Luke...

Not a bad theory. Makes a lot of sense :)

Rian Johnson has to ability to go in so many directions BECAUSE of JJ. He was perfect for episode 7, and set up 8 and 9 beautifully.

Very true. I think the biggest clue (besides the light saber calling to her) is Anakin was a Slave from a desert world, Luke was a farmer from a desert world, and Rey is a scavenger from a desert world. All 3 had had the conflict of the galaxy FIND THEM on their remote desert planets. The Will of the Force. (Episode 8 title perhaps???)

You know, one of the "little things" in this movie was how the First Order included female officers. If Luke had a wife, I would think they wouldn't just make her a background character who died. It doesn't fit what Disney has been doing with strong females. I would think if Luke did get married, his wife would have very strong beliefs in the Force. Perhaps a Church of the Force member like Lor San Tekka.

But if you're just going to replace the arm without even a bit of dialogue (maybe 2% of the audience might have even noticed it)... why bother giving him a red arm in the first place?

To show that he has been through stuff, even if we don't know what, instead of being powered-down until "yesterday"...

Also, sell those unique TFA red arm 3PO toys and the new gold arm reattached Ep VIII ones :)

Maybe even a special collectors edition with a changeable arm!

Well he's already been all-gold in Episode III, so if it's toys we're talking about, maybe they can give him a purple head in Episode VIII...

It's just the passage of time. It's a visual reminder - and I think an effective one - that quite a lot of time has gone by. There's really nothing more to it than that.

I like when Finn says to Han, when Han is gesturing with his head that he sees Rey behind him at Starkiller base, "What are you doing? What's this? Hm, hm? I'm trying to come up with a plan here". Just love the way John plays it, he sounds so frustrated and it is a nice subtly humorous response :)

Except they made a point of showing us he'd been repaired, because we care. About 2% of viewers even noticed C-3PO was in that shot.

C-3PO has a red arm that works fine. In between Han dying and the Resistance attacking Starkiller, someone found time to replace his perfectly good arm with another perfectly good arm... for no dramatic purpose?

Two more great little thing first of Poe excitement a t getting his hands on a Tie Fighter he was like a kid at the sweet shop also it gave us a very quick & informative comparison between a Tie Fighters & X Wings from an experts point of view

Second the tracking shot of Poe x wing from Finns point of view as he takes out quite a few tie`s over Mazes castle then a couple of storm troopers for good measure & Finns reaction to it

Just little details they slip in for good measure. 3PO said to BB-8 that "I must get my proper arm reinstalled". Sounded like he was procrastinating about getting it done. Finally after the threat of being blown up by Starkiller was over, he had it done.

Chewie doing his subtle nod of agreement when the two gangs said Solo let them down twice. That was priceless.
Han saying he will talk his way out of it, Chewie saying something like yeah right, and Solo pointing his finger "Yes I do, every time!". That line was perfectly delivered.
