During the eclipse, listen out for birds. Its an odd thing to see them "go back to bed" during the day. They can get very noisy.

If you have pets, keep them inside. Dogs and cats should stay in the house as they might become confused and scared.

Old people such as grandma or grandpa, should be placed outside as a sacrificial offering to the sun god to enable the return of the sun.

People should not wear green clothing during an eclipse, as this may cause nesting birds to confuse you for a tree and nest in your hair for the duration of the eclipse.

To avoid going blind during an eclipse, wear a blindfold or tape your eyes closed with duct tape until the eclipse has ended.

SKB you're funny, but, I take the risk of passing for a moralizer : among that lot of jokes, I just want to underline a pure truth you said: NEVER WATCH DIRECTLY TO THE SUN.
    In any manner.
Neither through a radiography (the worst idea of all), nor through your camera (or smartphone, or anything else who would be pointed to the Sun, and you would see through a screen), nor a colander (yes, some experienced this), nor a welder's mask.

THE ONLY THING THAT PERMIT YOU TO WATCH DIRECTLY TO THE SUN ARE SPECIAL GLASSES.

    Okay I stop shouting.:)
I remember the total eclipse we got in France in 1999.

As SKB said, pay attention to the birds noise (suddenly stopping), the average temperature who drastically dives and make you feel cold, the fear on pets faces that do not understand the hell what's happening.
If you witness this show along with several people, that two minutes will remain for your whole life something very, very strange and special. 18 years after, I still remember perfectly that moment when, without any consultation, we all applaused and shouted - like we had to exteriorise our thrill. It was magic.

If you are a gun owner, please keep it safely locked away until required. Sometimes, solar eclipses may cause the dead to rise and attack homes, property and people.

If you have solar panels on your roof, the sun may attempt to suck back the electricty from your electrical outlets. Avoid standing near electrical outlets during an eclipse to avoid possible electricution.

The fact also goes for human or electronic eyes.
During a solar eclipse, the brightness suddenly dives. To correct this, the human eye will open more its pupil, and so will do any electronic device aimed to shot images. Less brightness means open more the lense or the pupil.
In fact, the danger is that the amount of x-ray, infra-red rays and other ultra-violet rays is still the same.
In normal time, if you look directly to the sun, less than one second after, your eyes close themselves because of pain : this is a protection, the eye protects himself.
But in the case of an eclipse, there is no more protection. The eye is wide open, like your phone lense or any camera lense. UV and others dangerous rays largely come into your eye, where they shouldn't enter in normal time, and they quietly burn the retina.
You will feel nothing, no pain, no burn, nothing... You will just have a big black hole in the center of your vision. It will never disappear , because the retina is burnt, and this is irremediable. It's already too late when you get the big black hole...

    Please be careful.

I'm not even going to look. Just watch things around me darken, then lighten.

Eclipses last longer if you stand near a tree.

Birds should be attacking people in green clothing by now.
