    I think the two-release strategy for TFA was done as a cash-grab by Disney to capitalize on it being the third-highest-grossing movie ever. TLJ is going to make a fortune, but I doubt that they'll do the same practice this time around.

    If I recall correctly, wasn’t it even worse than simply a two-release strategy when TFA came to home media? I remember store/site exclusive deleted scenes and such being particularly annoying.

    So yeah, fingers crossed we don’t see a repeat of that :confused:

    It's actually not uncommon for major movies to have a rollout like that. What they did - have a complete re-release with new features in the same year that the initial disc is released - is not usual.

    As I alluded to, I don’t think that that was the annoyance with the roll-out; as you rightly said, it’s common practice that a definitive edition comes about not too long after other editions have been released.

    What I was talking about when I suggested that it was “worse than a two-release strategy” - which I actually detailed in the post that you quoted - was that certain interviews, footage, deleted scenes, etc., were exclusive to certain outlets upon initial release.

    Adding new features, etc., in the definitive release is common practice, but outlet exclusive footage, deleted scenes, etc., are not, so I hope that we get all of the initial home release stuff in one complete package for TLJ, and, if and when a definitive edition comes, get all of the additional stuff in one package too. :)
