I think this movie was one of the best in the series. I have no idea why some fans had any negative reaction whatsoever. However, there will always be people who think it should have went exactly the way they wanted and have a hard time accepting something outside of that.

    This movie was excellent!

Why would something so negative make you so happy?

It's probably because the Snoke theories can no longer continue. 15 people who sat near me could be heard mumbling on what theories to discuss now.

Because it gives hope for better films in the future. The fact that every famous person acts like "omg best since esb!!!!!" had me confused.

Okay so 80k people voting to a 57% rating... That is less than 1% of all star wars fans... most are too busy enjoying, raving about to movie to be bothered to vote...

I would put a million dollars on the fact that there is an overwhelmingly positive fan response to this movie than otherwise. That is a bet I would win 99 times out of 100.

I haven't seen it yet (8pm tonight) but of my friends that have, They have been positive about it and said it was good. It's obviously not going to be everyone"s cup of tea (just like TFA and the prequels) but it is that way with all movies. I think those that do not like it cry foul the loudest.

I agree that most that like it are not running to RT to vote. Just the ones that one to put it down. I personally have never voted, lol.

So let me get this straight: a bunch of sore users decide to rate a movie (that they aren't even required to watch before they rate it), on a service that is deemed incredibly controversial by content creators - yet supposedly has minimal financial impact on how a movie does according to actual analysts who say that word-of-mouth is infinitely more important - even though the critical reception is the only thing any studio actually cares about. And this will somehow result in "better" movies by your definition (however nebulous that might be), because some people decided to make a bunch of bots to further decrease the rating to a movie that most audiences seem to have enjoyed.

    Seems legit.

You can write it off as them using bots. Or you can accept that people didn't like the film.

I'll tell you what: take a look at this Twitter thread and you'll get a better idea of what people - who actually confirmed that they saw the movie - thought of it.

Yes, there are people who didn't like the movie. But that happens with literally every movie. This, conversely, suggests that there's a lot of love to go around with The Last Jedi from those who have actually seen it.

so then why are you suggesting that people who didn't like the film, are bots?

Writing a review and rating it way before the movie came it is all I needed to know that there is a fallacy. Way before it came out on IMDB there was a review that was pretty harsh, yet there is no way in hell they had seen the movie. Some people didn't like it that's a fact, but a majority did.

did the review go up before or after the LA premiere?

EDIT: and honestly, the score has only gone down sense weds. Initially it was at 64%. Now its at 56. There are people who didn't dig the movie.

I don't mean every single person who doesn't love the movie is a bot. I mean that the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic have been brought down significantly by bots. Those rating systems can be easily manipulated by users with way too much time on their hands. (Case in point: Star Wars Battlefront II, following the loot crate fiasco.)

Literally every person I spoken to (including several people at my last viewing) liked or loved this movie.
The only ones who truly hate it are the angry SW fanboys when all their theories went up in smoke.

And I love the "better movies because of hate" nonsense.
LFL and JJ are not going coddle you and your ilk, so get ready for another movie you will hate.

It’s classic vocal minority fans. The ironic thing is that they could have focused grouped a soulless sequel with like 10 writers and people would have thought it dull and 100% fan service. They instead go with the most singular vision since Lucas himself from a young accomplished Director who loves Star Wars and some old fan boys are angry.

Whatever happened to the contingent who always wished for a Fincher Star Wars, I’m guessing they are in the group having fun withholds one of the best entries in the saga.
