In Rebels we see Vader rocking his classic TIE fighter as seen in ANH, but in a lot of the other media based in the Dark Times (e.g. Tarkin, Lords of the Sith) we hear of Vader instead using a black Eta-2 actis-class interceptor, which I assume would be similar to that we see him use in RotS. There's a fairly large temporal gap between the novels of the Dark Times and Rebels itself, but I'm curious about the switchover.

This thread is as much speculation as fact finding. I merely ask the following: when did Vader make the switch? It'd be interesting to know whether his TIE is pretty new in Rebels or whether he's truly imprinted his arse into the seat of the cockpit in years previous. The why is fairly clear to me, since the Acta-2 would be long overdue for an upgrade for one so fanatic about flying as Vader.

EDIT: Apologies for the error in the title; it's meant to read Eta-2!

I hadn't realised he's upgraded TIEs as well! He can't keep still it seems!

I find it strange that he continued using the Eta-2 for so long after his immolation given that it was a Starfighter somewhat synonymous with the Jedi. I'm guessing he would make the switch to a TIE around the same time the rest of the empire ditched their V-wings, but I'm interested to know when it would've happened.

I forgot exactly, but in Lords of the Sith, set after Tarkin, Vader rams his Eta-2 into a ship, and the next time we see him in a ship, he is in a TIE. I think that after he crashes the Eta-2, a remnant of the PT era, he might used the TIE v1, and then switches to the TIE v2 made for him, like @alex thinks.

I didn't recall there being TIEs in LotS! I suppose that certainly brings closure to the question if it's the case!

I'm sorry, I meant that in the next Canon media, A New Dawn, we now have TIEs as the new standard, and in Rebels Vader has his TIE x1.
