That's not really how words work. :)

In the case of the Sequel Trilogy, Lucasfilm and Bad Robot (AKA Kathleen Kennedy and JJ Abrams) were the TPTB, with Kennedy having more 'say' because she's in charge of Lucasfilm, which was the primary production house (as it should be) for the Sequel Trilogy and for all Star Wars films.

I could get into a discussion with you about the differences between prescriptive and descriptive applications in linguistics, but... that sounds exhausting, and probably futile.

Guess you'll just have to trust that not everyone online is trying to "getcha", and that I don't really care about the semantics of this.

^ I don't think this is a case of semantics, but it's not really worth fighting about. :)

If Courscant was never going to be a part of the ST, then it should have been blown up instead of the lame "Hosnian Prime."

They got enough crap for not doing enough that was new....pretty sure new planets was just simply because that's what Star Wars did in films - typically took us to new planets and showed us new ships.

The ST went pretty light on new ships (enough that it's a thing people complain about), so if they had done "old planets" as well, and considering the amount of complaints that the same refraining of old themes is tired...sheesh. There would have been even more screaming.

I think they were simply trying to keep up the Star Wars tradition of showing new stuff as much as possible, while also feeling like the originals - and part of that seems to have been by pairing new planets with pretty much the same ships (or very similarly styled ships to the old ones with slight modifications).

    Cheers,
    Jayson

Galaxy is vast and if they kept going to the same planets over and over, it would be dull. I liked having new places. There was some old brought back as well. Hosnian Prime was new and blown up, imagine if they wanted to bring back Coruscant for some reason? They wouldn't be able to. Now they can show it in the future.

Just tossing this out there- I remember years ago (before TLJ's release) there were reports that the sequel trilogy would contain four planets from existing canon movies.

Now, note this was also before Trevorrow's script was scrapped, which would've been drastically different from TROS.

Yet, by my count, we still got four planets- Tatooine, Mustafar, Bespin, Endor (unless I missed one?).

Again, not proof of anything. But as it pertains to this theory, it could feel like contract negotiation/fulfillment of the planets that were used- either in that JJ had to use that many planets, or could only use that many.

I guess this is just an aside really, but I read somewhere that Felucia was originally going to be used as the Resistance base in TFA (the planet where Aayla Secura meets her end during Order 66). During the first shots of the Resistance base in TROS with the big plants, I thought maybe that's where we were this time.

Until I read this thread, I just presumed it WAS on the same Endor moon from ROTJ. Did they specifically say where they were in the film?

Yeah, again, that totally went over my head until reading it here. It was just 'a place' to me when I watched it.

I've only seen TROS twice, but to be honest the only world I significantly recall being mentioned by name in the film itself was Exegol. Although as I'm writing this I'm vaguely recalling that the one where Poe meets his old lady friend and the desert one that isn't Tatooine or Jakuu must have been mentioned by name just before going there on their quest, but it could be that in most cases all the exposition chatter went by so fast that I missed some of the world naming.

...and as I think about it more, there was that funny bit with 3PO once they'd arrived on the desert planet where he sounds like a holiday rep. for the place where I'm sure it must have been named.

Not sure if I had a point when I started this post, but I don't think there's a conspiracy to avoid using old planets in the ST. Just a conspiracy to avoid referencing too much from the prequels maybe... :p

I'd need to watch it again, but I don't believe that the name of the planet is said. Again, making it kinda strange that they didn't just Endor, since that's what most people would assume anyway.

The desert planet was Passanna. They said it a handful of times, but the beginning was such a rush you can't be blamed for missing it.

They also said "Kijimi" a few times (Babu Frik's planet".

But yeah, other than those and Exegol, I'm not sure I remember the other planets being mentioned: Ajan Kloss (Resistance Base), Kef Bir (not Endor), Mustafar, and I'm almost certain the Cinta glacier (or the planets in the subsequent hypserspace skipping scene) weren't mentioned.

Maybe a less tinfoily theory is simly that The Rise of Skywalker jumps around a LOT of planets, and giving them all names (particularly JJ-style names) could confuse audiences.

I don't know, the galaxy's a pretty big place. Personally, I love the idea of exploring other worlds with their own unique and interesting character. If they revisited old planets too often, this could be perceived as a cynical ploy to exploit nostalgia anyway.

    I very much agree.

And I know we're running out of Biomes pretty quickly, but it would've been neat to see some stuff other than Desert Planet, 3x Jungle planet, etc again.

Eh, sorry, I'm grumpy about this still I guess. :p

As a matter of general interest, how do you add the 'footer' to the message.

Not sure if things have changed since then, but I believe I won it in a contest on this site. Pretty sure it's not available by default.

The one that made the least sense was Kif Bir instead of The Sanctuary Moon Of Endor.
