Here is my take on this....and total respect to you bro. You bring up good questions.

When Ep 7 was announced, my first thought was 'get JJ Abrams on this NOW'. Most of the SW fandom howled, I was excited. I have seen his work, and thought he would be a good fit. In the end, he gave us, arguably, the best SW product we have ever seen. It may not be the best story (it wasn't) but it tickled every nerve we had all been waiting so long to feel again. It reminded me of things I had forgotten I had felt so long ago.

Enter Rian Johnson. I had to watch Looper a few times simply because I couldn't believe how amazing the story was. "Was that story that good? Let's watch it again!"

Enter Colin Trevorrow. Sure, Jurassic World was a blast to watch, but it too was derivative. I'm more excited that he was the guy that made Safety Not Guaranteed. If you haven't seen it, then I suggest you watch it soon.

I guess I'm saying that I feel the new SW is in hands that are much better than mine as far as story goes. I don't want 'everything I expect' to be in a SW film. I want BETTER than that.

Some have said things like "yeah, they could be good, but they will never top ESB." ESB is my favorite, but I hope EVERY SW FILM GOING FORWARD IS BETTER THAN ESB!!!

I want to be amazed, blown away, gob smacked, etc.

These films are in more than competent hands. I understand the worry, but folks griped when JJ was brough on board and he totally delivered in the end.

Was TFA derivative? Yes. Was it a lot like what we had seen before? Of course. I think that was by design. Now we have two true storytellers lined up for 8 and 9, so let's allow them to do their thing and sit back and be bowled over.

    Or disappointed. It could happen.

I think if TFA was a standalone movie, then the Knights of Ren would make no sense, and it would have been a mistake to introduce them. Knowing that this is a series, I think some amount of 'breadcrumbing' is okay.

I'm sure we will learn more about the KOR either in Ep 8 (prolly) or novelizations.

If I KNOW more story is to come, then as a director (I'm not btw), I could allow for some 'we'll get to that later' to come into play.

    Just my two cents.

    Hate much? (Just kidding....really).

I was there for the original showings of ANH. Saw it 10 times at the theater with my folks, friends, grandparents, etc. NEVER did I relate to Luke. Not that this is a bad thing!!

I related to Han Solo. I wanted to BE Han Solo. One day I SHALL BE HAN SOLO!!!

But an interesting thing happened....I shared my love of Star Wars with my kids later and my daughter wanted to be Luke Skywalker. She didn't want to be the princess, she wanted to 'be the hero.'

I don't know what this says about me, her, humanity........but she chose the hero at an age when I chose the rogue to become hero.

I'm still waiting to BE Han Solo.....my daughter will always BE Luke Skywalker to me.

    Just my thoughts
