I was quite surprised because the audience really applauded at the end of the movie, which doesn't happen too often in Germany. That was nice, although i was already walking out while the credits rolled.
I watched two girls, while walking out, looking over to a guy and waiting for what to do after the movie, as soon as the guy started to applaud, they did too. Really funny considering the movie we all just watched, where a girl is shown as quite the independently hero.

My little island of Guernsey did it's first ever midnight screenings of a film for TFA so needless to say it was a hugely exciting event. And for the first time I've ever experienced watch a film over here, people cheered and clapped, at the opening crawl. After that, the energy in the room was great. Strangely enough though, we all left the screen quietly, no clapping or cheering. I think people were taking anything at had happened (which is quite a lot) as people were buzzing outside the cinema. It's got to have been my favourite film experience.

Everyone here in Sydney went nuts, the energy was great seeing everyone as excited as they were. Everyone cheered at almost anything iconic which was a lot of fun, we were all so hyped by the time it started to cause we waited till 12.40 dunno why we had 40 mins of ads but ah well was an amazing experience as it was also my first midnight screening.

My first viewing on Thursday, the audience was excited and cheering at the beginning of the film. The cheered when the Legacy characters appeared on screen. They laughed at Kylo Ren's tantrums and Finn and Solo's banter. At the end of the film they were pretty quiet. Maybe a couple of people clapped. My 2nd viewing on Friday morning, the audience was quiet.

My crowd wasn't especially rowdy, but laughed and clapped at the end. We all hated gazillion trailers in the beginning. What was the most interesting to me was the makeup of the audience - older people (60+), middle-aged with kids, young, teenagers, men, women, couples, groups of friends... everyone. I am seeing it again tomorrow, so we'll see if that changes. :)

everyone was silent but watery eyed here in Tokyo.

some people were weeping as they left the theatre.

    It was emotional.

The best movie I've ever seen.

The audience at both viewings was a combination of enraptured by the film and distracted from it. TFA was showing at the local drive-ins here in Sacramento and I thought it would be a good family outing for my wife, my toddler, and I (beyond that of course, I had a thirty two year itch to scratch). Luckily people aren't too enthused at the prospect of braving the mild temperatures near the end of Autumn out here, so the showing was sparsely attended. I'm sure most people went to the traditional theater to see the film, but I saw the virtue in avoiding the crowds. My wife and I loved the film, while my son was interested in the world around us, other people and cars, and other films playing on other screens. If he catches the same Star Wars bug that I caught a long, long time ago, he'll be able to say he saw Episode VII in the theaters twice, even if he hardly cared about what was on the screen in front of us. Beyond that I did distinctly hear a lot of laughing and cheering at TFA from other cars and groups. Eventually I plan on seeing the film at the theater, probably more than once, but the first two times I had a blast at the drive-ins.

German cinema: normally they don't party to much, but this time it was a great atmosphere. Some guys in great costumes, one guy came in dressed as Spock, the audience cheered for that ballsy move. Applause when Leia or R2 showed up, laughter for BB8, dead silence at the bridge, they all behaved very well and didn't talk, for me personally it was the greatest movie going experience ever.

My audience was pretty lively, but not obnoxiously so. They reacted appropriately to everything and at the end they cheered and clapped. Filing out of the room, everyone was fairly quiet, I think because there were a number of people in the halls and they didn't want to spoil anything. All in all a good crowd.

Lot's of clapping and cheering at some of the earlier moments i.e. SW logo, opening crawl, Han and Chewie coming 'home'. The reveal at the end was very well received too.

Saw it Friday 7:10 showing in city of Taunton, Massachusetts. Crowd was quiet for most of movie. I heard people laugh at the funny parts and that was pretty much it. No cheers only a half dozen clapping at the end credits. Disappointing crowd reaction. I saw better crowds when I saw the prequels and the special edition re releases.

old but fun thread. this is what i remember about my first viewing (on friday of opening weekend):
    • overall more moderation than the frenzy that accompanied TPM
    • cheers and applause for "Lucasfilm" and for the opening scroll
    • lots of laughter for all the funny parts
    • cheers and applause for Han & Chewie's first appearance
    • applause at the reveals of Leia, C-3PO, and R2-D2
    • nervous gigglish twittering when Kylo Ren took off his mask the first time
    • very tense, very dead freakin' silence when Han was killed
    • a palpable gasp when Rey caught the saber, some clapping/cheering
    • lots of applause at the end
    • lots of people stayed to watch the credits
