Given that they apparently rule the galaxy now and the Raddus can't escape at lightspeed, that shouldn't have been much of a problem considering that the battle took place for HOURS. Also, seeing as how the First Order is a military junta, are you genuinely arguing that all of the First Order's military was docked in bases? I'm pretty sure that there would have been other active capital ships or minor fleets elsewhere.

Now go to the next paragraph of the Wikipedia article the original post is copied from and continue reading

While many stories have unanswered questions, unlikely events or chance occurrences, a plot hole is one that is essential to the story's outcome. Plot holes are usually seen as weaknesses or flaws in a story.[citation needed] Characters who lack common sense often create plot holes.[3]Consumers of fiction who encounter plot holes have been said to question their own intelligence, and find it relieving to describe plot holes as such.[3] Plot holes have been said to be more frequent in film than in novels due to the need for a film to show links between exciting events.[3] Plot holes can be major or minor depending on the scene they appear in.[4]

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plot_hole

Or how about from Urban dictionary

A portion of scripted material, usually in a movie or television show, that absolutely makes no sense at all and should have never been concieved by the writer(s) to begin with. A bump in the plot so bad that it kills any suspension of disbelief the viewer had.
Did you ever see Jeepers Creepers? Why would a young girl on a long drive with her boyfriendever want to stop at a creepy farm to investigate someone shoving what seems to be a body into a hole in the ground? Most women let along younger girls I know won't even step on a bug.

Thats a plot hole you can drive a truck through

All of these is an attempt to try to twist words

This is a bit of a rabbit hole because there's all kinds of different reasons why to your questions. That's why it's not a plot hole. You may not like any of the reasons, but as long as it's not impossible it's not a plot hot.

This seems to be the confusion for those who don't like the film. You don't like story choices and that's subjective. Nothing I can say is going a person's feeling about a film. However, a plot hole is an objective view of a written narrative. Objectively, this film doesn't have any plot holes. Actually, it's difficult to have them in fantasy series. It's more difficult in science fiction.

They may not be plot holes strictly by definition but there's no denying that some of the things brought up by myself and a few others here are genuinely stupid parts of this film that were born out of thoughtlessness or laziness. Like the ridiculous nature of opening the film with "THE FIRST ORDER REIGNS." and then showing a battle in which some of the First Order's most powerful warships can't even manage to defeat a single cruiser that ends up becoming virtually defenseless to strikecraft halfway through the film.

Those are all subjective opinions so are they stupid? Maybe to you, but maybe not to others. I'm not really interested in debating people subjective opinions. There's no accounting for taste after all. Thanks for point out that there are no plot holes though.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the film.

I have to admit I kinda agree here. Even if they give partial reasons and a weasel out that if they have to change course to stay ahead it spends fuel and so on.

However I think the flip side to this is that the Resistance had no other option. Their tactic was to buy themselves time give themselves distance from their pursuers. But the logical inconsistency is in the choice of the 1st Order. Hux strikes me as arrogant and cruel enough to pursue them till the bitter end rather than delaying their destruction savoring it until complete. Could the 1st Order sent part of the fleet ahead probably. Should they have in hindsight yes. So it might be that hubris saves the Resistance much in the way Hubris saves Rey.

I definitely think it's the former than the latter. Domnhall Gleeson presents a fanatical and bloodthirsty general in Hux and he would have gladly traded some strikecraft for the end of the Resistance rather than timidly following them and prolonging the conflict.

Rian had written the Resistance in a corner in this film.

So you don't find it stupid that the First Order apparently has enough resources and manpower to bring the entire galaxy to their knees but somehow can't use a fleet of its most powerful warships to cripple a single cruiser that cannot use its hyperdrive, has no adequate answer to strikecraft, had most of its leadership sucked into the vacuum of space and all of its capable pilots and soldiers confined with in the hull of the ship with no other option other than to mutiny?

Yeah, I guess there really is no accounting for taste. ;)

You must be new to this whole Star Wars thing. The Empire built a Death Star twice and basically let a small band of religious terrorists blow it up both times. Don't even get me started on the plan (if you can call it that) to rescue Han in RotJ. Let's not pretend that Star Wars is Shakespeare. It's a fantasy space opera for kids. It's supposed to be fun. If you're not having fun, you're probably wasting your time

This is a thread on plot holes though.

    1. It required an army executing a joint assault on Endor's surface and in space to destroy the Death Star II and the Death Star I's destruction was a borderline suicidal effort that was done to garner confidence in the Rebel Alliance's cause and ability to strike major defeats against the Galactic Empire.
    2. The Rebel Alliance was a political cause, not a religious one. Even in canon, it's regarded as "the Alliance to Restore the Republic".

Yes I am indeed arguing that. The truth is that we really just don't know. You cannot put your own logic into the story and judge on your own logic. Either explanation is completely plausible
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 20, 2017, Original Post Date: Dec 20, 2017 ---
Lol, is that the best you got? oh you are going to have to do better than that
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 20, 2017 ---
You see these questions, they are unanswered questions, not plot holes. These are simply questions that (are you ready) CAN be answered by the writers of the story, but just NOT answered.

How does that make it a plot hole again?

Just asking plot questions doesn't mean there isn't an explanation, just that it wasn't shared in this episode. ALL stories have this in some way or another, so are we saying that all stories have plot holes?

I am going by the film's logic. After all, they conquered the galaxy. It says so in the opening crawl.

Yoda wasn't telling Luke "there is nothing in the books Rey needs to learn." He said, "there is nothing in there (the tree) the girl Rey does not already possess." He was telling Luke that Rey took the books.

I think the term plot holes is a bit strong to be honest. My issue is things or events that don't make logical sense or choices that went too far.

Poe calling Maz Kanata is just laziness. It could have easily been solved with Finn saying "I know someone that might be able to help". Just have Finn call her. Then, have her just talk to them. No crazy fire fight and jetpack.

Leia flying back to the cruiser using the force. If you wanted to show Leia using her powers out of instinct, just have the laser blasts cause an explosion and Leia instictly force grab something to protect herself, like a blast door or something. It would have been cool is she helped save some people while taking the brunt of the explosion. She sensed it coming.

BB-8. He was forgotten multiple times by Finn and Rose and kept coming back to save them. Not one line saying "where's BB-8" or "If we don't find BB-8 Poe will kill me". Something along those lines.

BB-8 in a trash can? Why didn't he just stay with the ship? Why is Poe calling Finn on the Mega Destroyer? Does the First Order not monitor communications on their flagship?

More BB-8. If they wanted him saving the day in the AT-ST so badly, have him pop out of the hatch. Did they really need to go overboard and have the entire cockpit pull off so easily?

Again, many of these things are entirely fixable with re-writes and re-shoots. I believe Rian went overboard because he was worried about the movie feeling too somber with how he handled Luke.

I think a lot of people are confusing plot holes with a plot devise.

I cannot believe I spent the last 45 minutes reading this thread and the best and most compelling argument for a plot hole relates to the space chase and running out of fuel. This is not a plot hole, it is a plot devise to create tension and move the story along. It reminded me of a WWII naval film, like Das Boot.

As some one who has always considered SW to be a sword&sorcery film rolled into a WWII film, that happens to be set in space, I loved it. Space in SW works basically like the ocean in our world.

It's also a really dumb setup so the intent is kind of wasted on it.

Call if what you want I still haven't heard anyone even try to come up for a logical explanation for the issues I mentioned

Another ship they couldn't track besides Finn and Rose's shuttle is the falcon at the end of the movie...

It's clear that "logical" is purely subjective when it comes to the GFFA.
