Finn and Rose infiltrate the Supremacy. Finn puts on an officer uniform, and somehow the place gets trashed. I've heard rumors of planting bombs, etc... but if you watch closely in the trailer, There are AT-STs walking around firing at stuff. There are troopers firing at stuff. All while Phasma and Finn fight.

Does this mean that Finn really does form some sort of revolt on the supremacy? Or does Rose get inside an AT-ST and go to town on the hangar? Do they reprogram some droids? This whole scene is a little crazy. How do they end up in a big firefight on the hangar? Do resistance troops board the ship? that seems unlikely.

All I know is that I have theorised for some time that Finn's role in this is to lead a revolt of the Stormtroopers.
For me, the heroes of this ST not only have to defeat the enemy but also put an end to the cycle of violence that "Vader started".
Essentially, the FO is the Empire reborn and so the shadow of Vader continues to loom over everything.
Therefore, the only way to stop The FO respawning into something else, as the Empire did, then there has to be a way to actually change the minds of its military machine rather than just destroying it (or trying to). It's the battle of ideas rather than just war.

And no one is better placed to achieve this than Finn when it comes to the Stormtroopers. He has the experience to show the Stormtroopers that there is a way out - that it is wrong what they're doing and what has been done to them. And if Finn can escape and lead a good life, then so can they. Clearly, some will remain loyal to the FO, out of fear or brainwashing - but Finn can forever change the course of history by showing that there is another way. This will do far more damage to those on the Dark Side than just winning the odd battle here and there - and a real world comparison could be made with the war on terror. It's no good just fighting wars all over the place, we have to change the mind of the Jihadi's/Islamists.

So in conclusion to that, although it is hard to make out in the trailer, I wouldn't be at all surprised if indeed Finn has won over a legion of Stormtroopers to help fight his cause and their freedom with it. I could almost envisage a scene of Stormtroopers lining up and declaring:

    "I'm Finn!".

I do hope we get to see some kind of revolt inside the FO.

TFA established the "stormtrooper paradox", which basically questions why Finn is the ONLY stormtrooper to EVER question his role within the FO. A revolt in TLJ would fix this paradox, so yes, BRING IT ON.

That would be cool if he did, but the question is;will he win over Phasma? She seems to be a little stubborn

I'm fine with Finn losing against Phasma, as long as she doesn't put him in frozen carbonite afterwards...

Here's a few gifs of the AT-?? & Troopers firing at something or someone.

AT-?? top right firing towards ground (Does this thing have a cockpit?)
    Troopers1.gif

Trooper Left of Finn getting hit by sparks, troopers right of Phasma firing behind Phasma.
    Troopers2.gif

The different angles would seem to represent at least 2 different groups of "resistance"

I'm going to speculate we are just seeing the work of bombs and such. I feel like that's a chicken-walker with its head chopped off...

As for Finn winning over troopers (with a quick speech?) that have been heavily indoctrinated and brain-washed from a young age.... meh. That doesn't seem realistic or consistent, and kind of diminishes Finn's uniqueness as having been a lone defector to see the light.

Edit: maybe he has a small squad of rebels in disguise to cause mayhem. Otherwise, I doubt Finn leads a rebellion, but that's just me.

A small squad of resistance troops is a good theory.
Perhaps he simply uses the rank on his uniform to good use and orders troopers to battle. "Ahhh Captain Phasma has killed Hux and is leading a mutiny, we must fight."

Perhaps @McDiarmid is right DJ is Captain Cardinal, the former trainer of the troopers before Phasma took over. He works as a slicer now but may be has a method of helping or insight to get a mass defection started.

I do not recall the source but I seem to remember that DJ stood for "don't join". Don't join the First Order?

Wow, I've watched the trailer quite a few times, and I never noticed the walker nor the troopers until I've read this! I have a theory, but, it's very far fetched and very unlikely...

I'm assuming some of you read the Thrawn trilogy books, where there's a character, Joruus C'baoth, who has some kind of battle meditation ability where he can control many soldiers with his powers. I've been wondering how Rey gets to board the ship and confront Snoke. What if she's the one using a similar power to inspire a rebellion aboard the ship and have the trooper turn on one another?

I agree with everyone saying 'Stormtrooper Revolt'. Coups and rebellions are always awesome in modern popular media, like this one:

Edit: Poe did say "we have a spark that will light the fire that will burn the First Order down" - the shot then cuts to Finn fighting Phasma and stormtroopers seemingly blowing each other up. Also, there are many famous actors playing stormtroopers this time around, possibly even in credited roles like Tom Hardy.
