    Who built the Death Star? A question the Jay and Silent Bob classic Clerks movie asks. The Clerks propose it was independent contractors. This would be plausible but not the case. As explained in Attack of the Clones commentary reel by George Lucas. The answer he gives is this, "they are after all just a bunch of large termites" referring to the droid army manufacturers from Geonosis. We see them attack our party of 2 shortly before they get captured and sent to the arena for slaughter. The Termite people from the droid factory on Geonosis are the industrial workers of the Star Wars Universe. So therefore, because they are "termite like" creatures we should feel less for their loss when the Death Star is destroyed. 2 TIMES! It makes since i suppose, they are efficient. They seem to be self-aware. Not unlike the Buggers of Enders Game.

    Do you buy Lucas's explanation?

    If this was the case shouldn't we have seen them crawling around the Death Star at some point?

    Can you make one that says "Imperial Contractors"? Because I would use that one.
    I would imagine the Geonosians would become either enslaved or contracted to make the machinery and/or equipment, but probably nothing like vehicles/giant space stations.
    Stormtroopers are soldiers, so they would probably mess something up like install the super laser backwards. (and in the process changing the events of A New Hope considerably!)
    And independent contractors probably couldn't be trusted. Because...

    Okay, you caught me. But it was @Willybobo's idea. And Jack Daniels was involved too, in an advisory role.

    After a few Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters I was feeling a buzz and told Willy his sister has a high kinkychlorian count. He told me he'd give me her number if I'd help him enslave the Galaxy. Jack said "That's a great idea!"

    Then this Supreme Chancellor guy showed up and offered to help. He had blueprints and everything, and Jack said "You can trust this guy" so I dug around under the seat until I found my socket set and got to work. Then, when I was almost done, that pretty Carrie Fisher and her Bothan buddies bought me another round and stole my blueprints...

    Well, you guys already know the rest of the story.

    A friend of mine told me the death star was created in thought by a engineer named Raith Sienar who then passed it on to Moff Tarkin who tasked another engineer Bevel Lemelisk to build it. Off course independent contractors saw to it that all three men would not survive the war.
