SPECULATION Who is the Ancient Fear?

Oh Yeah I like this Idea. A Force War! Has the War of the Ring sound to it. On top of that the Empire still maintaining an influence in the galaxy, Wow! I have a question, if Stormtroopers like me will be present in Ep7, Will there be TIE Fighters? Or a newer version of them?

 

You can expect that after 30 years changes were made...Let´s see if we can actually hit now with our blasters

I think we're close on a lot of this speculation and ideas, some of which are pretty original btw.

That said, I would expect to see Sith in the sense of, like the Jedi, a version shaped by the master who creates them. Sure the "Sith" were a specific cult but that doesn't mean that the "Rule of Two" had to continue. I liked the idea of the ROT but it has shown to fail and its time passed. I like the idea of a Sith legion going to war with the Jedi for control of the galaxy -- your Force war.

I think the thing we have to remember is that if there is a particular evil character looking to take ultimate control of the galaxy and reign unopposed for the rest of time, it makes sense for him to bide his time until the Jedi are at their weakest, and Luke being despondent and alone is pretty much the perfect moment to strike. So it makes sense for him to plan and set in motion the actions of Plagueis, Sidious, Maul, Dooku, Ventress and Vader, to ultimately end up with a scenario where there is only one lone Jedi with no apprentices and no motivation or ability to take him down. So ultimately it would mean that he can defeat the last Jedi in the galaxy and rule unchallnenged for the rest of his (un)natural life. Of course, something as major as announcing that the whole time during the last 6 movies, there's been a secret character pulling the strings behind the scenes will involve a great deal of back-pedalling if they're not REALLY clever with their writing....

But what if the Prophecy refers to the bigger picture of all 9 movies, rather than boiling down to just a single event, and actually refers to Luke rather than Anakin? It's really interesting to have the possiblity to change the focus of the Prophecy again, I think.

Actually, in fairness, I think it'd be nice to be able to have a single moment in VII where a stormtrooper pulls out a blaster and takes someone down with the first shot, and have the heroes actually look at each other and say something along the lines of, "crap, things really have changed in the last 30 years...."

 

I would like the duel in episode 7 be called Luke vs Ruin

 

I think a Plagueis type character could work here for the simple fact that under the ROT even the suspicious were vanquished. BUT what IF Plagueis really did defy death despite Sidious' disbelief? What IF Sidious was played the whole time? That is the ultimate lesson of the ROT -- get before you're gotten.

Whether the subtitle is The Ancient Fear or not it seems likely that there will be an all-encompassing villain.

Also, I like your idea about Luke being the Chosen One even though Lucas has confirmed it as Anakin. At the very least I think it would be cool if the speculation were prevalent.

Lastly, I think the stormies will come back with a vengence -- would be awesome to see them become very lethal again like the beginning of IV.

That's exactly what I think it should be like, but who among the Jedi will be powerful enough to destroy Ruin? (If he will be in ep7) an intriguing question we must ponder.

 

As much as I like the idea of a Force War and all the Dawn of the Jedi it implies, George did clarify that Anakin was the Chosen One and he brought balance to the force by defeating the Sith so save for nuance, that part's cut and dry. The rumors centered around finding the Sith origins or the source of Palpatine's power are a way of keeping the Sith indirectly a threat in the ST without breaking that prophecy.

Or of course there's always George's occassional, "nope, changed my mind," but Idk that he'd do that when it comes to the force. We'll see and it'll be fun to find out for sure.

 

For this to work, they need to make Darth Ruin just the ultimate badass ever seen on film. I dont know if they want to go thatndark though, but I hope they do.

 

It would be cool if Darth Bane was resurrected as the ancient fear, he is one of the only EU sith that was canonized by his appearance in the clone wars finale. He would be one of the best villain choices as he is established and is basically this sith chosen one ( The Sith'ari ) but we don't know if the Sith'ari is canon or not yet, we do know bane existed and founded the sith rule of two tho.

also he is my favorite sith from the books and the fact that he survived the cannon purge makes me so happy xD

 

Something to mention: the Ancient Fear wouldn't necessarily need to be a who. It could be a what. I'd guess death is maybe the most ancient fear I can think of. Just to be more concrete, maybe the origins of the Sith could be discussed in those terms.
