It doesn't seem in the movie that Lor San Tekka and Rey knew each other and the Millenium Falcon is there because of a debt too.

Ankar Plutt looks like a galactic slaver not a friendly dude where you put your daughter for protection.

Yes, I am assuming Luke is her father, aren't we all?!?!?!?!? =P Also, Kylo Ren is approximately 33 years old and Rey is supposedly around 21-22, right? Now if Rey was left on Jakku by Kylo [theory] when she was about 5 (?), then he would've been about 16-17 at the time. Now, by this theory, can we assume that a 16 year old Jedi student would travel to the galactic equivalent of Ajo, Arizona to hide a 5 year old child? Maybe. It's an interesting theory, and it would be a great plot twist, but seems like a real stretch given other factors. Still a good idea though!

hahaha ~ i've long since fallen off the Rey = Luke's daughter train. believed it at the very first, but now i'm unswervably against it. Luke to me was always the perfect Jedi and i just don't see him fathering a child given his sense of duty to the order. lots of arguments why he may have, but i've got it fixed in my head that it's just not Luke. if she does turn out to be his daughter, i'm going to be sad.

Rey is 19 and Ren is "about 30" (both actors are playing about 4 years younger than their real ages), but yeah, for anything in this theory to work, Ben would have to be a teenager at the time (which was what prompted the original wisecrack about him stealing the Falcon: it's exactly something a teenager would do to his dad).

but again: far-fetched, all of it.

it just still bothers me that Han let his Falcon get stolen and that there are so so many points of confluence on Jakku ~ hahaha.

Okay, I haven't read the TFA novel, so if their ages are stated there as being 19 and 30, so be it, I got their ages elsewhere; regardless, it's about the same and Kylo woulda been around mid-teens. As far as Luke being Dad, well, I'll hold on to the idea that he thought she was dead because I can't stand poor parenting!! Hell, with all the twists in TFA as compared to the EU/former canon, Rey could be Han and Leia's daughter that they thought was dead as a result of Kylo's treachery. She could be a revised version of Jaina, what with her mechanical skill and Force sensitivity. Who knows, anything is possible now.

I'm wondering about this: Could the information in Luke's lightsaber be available to any force-sensitive person who touches it? Meaning that the information about Rey being dumped with Unkar on Jakku would at some point be available to a force-sensitive person who frequented Maz's castle and was able to recognize Unkar, who also seems to have frequented her bar? No wonder she locked the thing away. In that case, I wonder if Maz got the saber from Lor San Tekka in exchange for the map to Luke which she had stored previously. She has no idea who dumped Rey on Jakku because she herself only has the force vision to rely on. And San Tekka takes the map to Jakku, ascertains that the girl stuck with Unkar at present is Luke's, and contacts Leia.

    I did...er...under orders that is. :p

lol I wish...would be interesting if it was a new character yet to be revealed who took a young Rey into hiding under a certain someone's orders...who that would be, I dunno. We'll see soon enough in VIII and IX.

Rey was left on Jakku by her family or someone she perceived was her family. She obviously is scared to leave Jakku as she is expecting (or at least wishfully hoping) that they will come back for her. I guess it all depends on who or who she isn't related to. If she is not Luke's daughter she could have been left by any combination of mom, dad or both. If she is Luke's daughter, then she was left by either her biological mom or any combination of her "adoptive" parents (she of course would view them as her true parents)

While I very well could be wrong I'm not buying the theory that Kylo dropped her off, as he would have already turned in some form to the dark, and I can't see him dropping her off and leaving her with the feeling that he is going to let her parents know where to find her. As I said earlier, she is obviously waiting for her family to return which would indicate she thinks they are aware of where she is.

as a borderline proponent of the Kylo did it theory, i would suggest that whether he had turned to the Dark yet is immaterial (though he probably already had or was in the process of doing so). as conflicted as he is, it wouldn't be out of character to ditch the girl on Jakku and let the fates decide as opposed to kill her outright. i haven't seen anywhere yet (maybe i missed it) that someone suggested he was ever going to let her parents know where she is. of all the possible characters her abandonment could be tied to, he's the only one who makes sense in terms of the cruelty of it--or the irresponsibility of it (he would have had to have been a teenager at the time).

like i said, i'm borderline on this. i believed it more strongly until i worked out the timeline and reconsidered some of the statements he makes (in the novel and script) that would seem to indicate he knows her, but on second read can be interpreted a completely different way.

i'm actually leaning more on the no side these days, but i can see ways in which the theory could potentially play out.

My point about Kylo letting her parents know was not suggested by anyone. I was bringing it up to say it did not happen. The point was trying to get across probably was not clear. Let's examine the Kylo dropping her off theory.

    • Rey is waiting for her family to come back for her
    • If Kylo dropped her then he would have to be family
    • In my opinion, I just don't see anyway that Rey is a Solo so that would make her a cousin to Kylo if he is family
    • She has waited up to 14 years for her family to return
    • I just don't find it realistic that she would wait up to 14 years and in the process being afraid to leave the planet because she might miss her cousin coming back for her.
    • If she is willing to wait that long she is likely waiting for a family member she has a deeper connection with to return like a parent/s.
    • Therefore in order for Kylo to drop her off and her to expect her parent/s to find her then she would have to be under the impression that Kylo was going to inform them where he left her. I just can't justify that happening.
I hope that is more clear.

I think now that the battle in the rain during the force vision was an attempt to recover Luke's light saber from "The Clan". I found this last night: http://screenrant.com/star-wars-7-force-awakens-flashbacks-luke-skywalker-role/
I'm sure JJ and co. reworked the vision to leave everything as ambiguous as possible. I think the shot with the child Rey being left on Jakku was filmed much later in the production - September.

As long as the visual information about the drop-off his stored in Luke's saber, the kidnapper only has to deliver the saber to Luke's family to set them off. I can see that happen.

I also felt that Maz' conversation with Rey made it clear that "whoever" Rey is waiting for on Jakku at that point of time, they're not coming back, and that the "belonging" (with a family) Rey seeks is ahead of her and not behind, so it's no point for Rey to return to Jakku. I don't see picture Ben Solo in a mask and cape at the time of Rey's abandonment. If Rey is waiting for Ben Solo, that guy isn't coming back to Jakku, so nothing contradictory about Maz' statement here. And since Luke - according to Maz - is in a position to come back, he can't be the one Rey is waiting for on Jakku. He's not the person Rey expects to pick her up because she has no memory of him abandoning her.

All we have to go by is the information Rey conveys to BB-8 when she is 19, after at least 10 years after she was left with Unkar. She can't describe her family visually, it's a big secret. That is odd in my eyes and sounds like a combination of vague images of the past and stories from Unkar. So I guess her forceback corrects her memory of the Jakku event, and the later interrogation by Kylo corrects it further.

Maybe she only has the perception of being dropped off on Jakku as a small child. We all seem to have accepted the theory that she had her memory wiped. Did anybody snap a picture of those scratches she made for the days on Jakku? Maybe they only add up to 2 years or so.

Good point. The script says "thousands of marks". 3650 marks would be 10 years, so that fits well with childhood abandonment.

I don't believe anybody needed to wipe her memory. Kids remember little enough about their childhoods as it is. Passing time is enough to scramble memories.

Ok, so...about the Falcon being conveniently at Jakku...

I read somewhere that, in Before the Awakening, Poe is sent by Leia to steal some ship. When he does, he announces over the speakers that the vessel "is now property of the Irving Boys".

According to TFA, the Irving Boys stole the Falcon from Han.

Poe is sent to steal a ship of a senator who is sympathetic to the First Order. He poses as a member of the Irving Boys as not to bring suspicion to the Resistance

that's really interesting (and small worldish) for Poe to be pretending to be the Irving Boys. likely they are very notorious (which could be the case). i'd hate to learn this is an actual breadcrumb on some level. that's just getting waaaaay too labyrinthine for my tastes ~ hahaha.
