SPECULATION Who will be Rey's next friend to kick the bucket?

i don't think anyone else is going to die. could be major injury, but with Han killed in TFA, i think they've done the hero's death for this ST. no one else died in the OT except Vader. Han was imperiled, but he survived. i think we're more likely to have something like that with Leia or Luke or Poe.

Maz Kanata. She's done all she can for the plot; she's dead weight.

 

With Han's death, Chewie's story seems to have ended too. However, I think it would be smart for Lucasfilm to keep him alive. Chewbacca is iconic. Like R2D2, C-3PO, Stormtroopers and Darth Vader, his image is Star Wars. Although Chewie will always be associated with Peter Mayhew, the character can be played by any actor.

I think that the Sequel Trilogy is partly about passing the baton to the new generation of actors (Rey, Poe, Finn, Hux, Kylo Ren, Snoke, Maz Kanata). I think that we will not see Luke or Leia beyond Episode IX. Because we saw Luke for only one minute, it seems too early to kill him off in Episode VIII. Leia, therefore, seems to be the more likely candidate.

Kasdan, Boyega and others have mentioned how dark ep 8 is going to be. I remember what happened when it went dark in TFA..

 

What if Poe bites it by being a big goddamn hero and everyone who voted on the poll is wrong by default?

I've gone for the Falcon. Not that I'd actually want to see it, but it could be a way of 'getting round killing an OT character' without it having to be a person. Plus it would be hell to see the Falcon destroyed

 

Maybe it's a product of modern TV shows but why do characters have to be "killed off?" Like anything else if it adds something compelling to the story go for it, but it doesn't have to be a requirement. I wonder if this plot device has been so overused recently that audience are beginning to become programmed by it.

 

Well what bout Rey's parents are they possibly gone ?

The Falcon... much as it pains me to say it, I can see it happening. The Falcon was already an old ship in OT. How much longer can it possibly be space-worthy for. Give it a "one last flight" send-off. I don't want it to just get destroyed on the ground. It needs to go out in a blaze of glory.

 

i'm hoping the "darkness" in viii is more along the lines of Rey's temptation than character death. i really don't want to see anyone else die unless it's 100% necessary and absolutely purposeful.

though i agree with others i can see the Falcon being sacrificed potentially. so long as Chewie, Finn, Poe, aren't on it! hahaha

 

here's a thought..

most will have seen the deleted TFA scene with Kylo going on board the falcon and looking around.

the scene got cut, and whilst there could be 50 different reasons for that.. what if it's so that he can come across the falcon parked up during episode 8 instead?
I can SO see him ordering his men to destroy it, and him watching on with some powerful music. it would be like killing another piece of his father in his current twisted mind.

oh noooooooo! he had a chance to blow up the Falcon and didn't do it. and that would be too awful.

if the Falcon has to go i'd rather someone else was going to torch it and has a negative visceral reaction to seeing it destroyed--one that kicks lose whatever grief he'll no doubt be suppressing coming out of the gates at the start of viii.
