SPECULATION Why all the Red associated with this film?

This film is secretly a Communist propaganda piece.

 

Probably just an ode to how dark it's supposed to be. Maybe we'll see the "Good Guys" do things that we don't usually associate with the "Good Guys"... kind of like in Rogue One

 

I'm not reading much into it. I think that all the white & red is just its visual identity inspired by what goes down on Crait.

Moreover, I think that the red title font was motivated by practical reasons. If it was yellow, the association with TFA would be too strong. When seeing it, it would take a moment for people to realise there's a different title between Star and Wars. I bet IX will be blue for the same reasons.

 

I've always thought that red was a color that represented darkness. Here's a quote I found that I think relates to how red relates to the potential themes of The Last Jedi: "Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love."

Red was also used to promote Return of the Jedi when it was marketed as Revenge of the Jedi (and although now The Empire Strikes Back is considered the darkest film in the Original Trilogy, at the time, I think Return of the Jedi was thought to be the dark film of the trilogy), and red was used to promote Revenge of the Sith.

Plus, like @srg pointed out, the color differentiation was probably a good way to signal that this film will be different from The Force Awakens, especially because Disney will want those who may have been turned away by the comparisons between A New Hope and The Force Awakens to see this film.

 

Pretty much everything @Trev said and if it was not romance only, I'd say the red string of fate that connects two people, but that's only for lovers.

 

Red was also used for the title of TCW episodes which centered around Maul.....so it could point to the themes of darkness and revenge.

That red string is some kind of inside joke. One of our fellow Cantina members has already debunked this connection. Sadly, I don't remember in which thread.

 

Even if it's a joke, that doesn't change the fact that Kylo and Rey are connected and they will become allies, and Kylo will have his redemption arc because of his sentiments for Rey, just like Vader and his sentiments for his son, history will repeat.



Rey of Light will save Ben Solo from the dark side and Snoke, and who is projecting a ray of light on Kylo in TFA ?

 

Blood is red.
Since in 40 years of Lucas Star Wars there was" no drop of blood seen on screen", they want to make up for this now in abundance.

Battle on this salty planet rich in rare red mineral will be pivotal part of the film .

 

Red is a cool color. It can look badass, ominous, scary and angry.

 

It's amazing how bloody that looks without being actual blood.
