    I think health permitting JW will score VIII. At his age health can be a very fragile thing. Hopefully he will stay well and produce a killer score for VIII

    i would very much like Mr Williams to score all the way up to episode 9. but if push comes to shove i don't think it would be the end of the world if him and William Ross did what they did for harry potter and the chamber of secrets, especially considering most people could not tell that Mr. Williams did not write the full score.

    Agreed I can understand the pressure he is under to produce new unique music for this stage of the trilogy & he will give us a killer score given the opportunity.

    Not trying to derail the thread, but if I understand correctly, William Ross didn't really "write" anything. All the orchestration and whatnot on the cues that he dealt with had basically been done already by John in the previous film, and Ross' credit on the cover was a nice gesture by John for the help.

    I think for health reasons he is starting early......

    he might be worried he can't do it anymore..... Its not easy .....

    I have been to a scoring session and just for a few seconds of music its a lot of work.

    I don't think he is working on the complete score. It's too early for that. YOU KNOW THERE WILL BE RESHOOTS. :p

    I think he can start judging the mood of the film from the early cut and decide on the themes he wants. This is great news, he will have more time and less stress. Better for him, better for the movie, better for us.

    For TFA, John Williams started working on the score in December 2014 (to take an ovierview of the film reels). The first real recording session was in June 2015, the last one was in November.

    I have to be honest (even if it delves into sad territory): due to Williams' age, I truly hope he decides to begin early on this one. At 84, he's still doing incredible work, but 84 is 84, good health notwithstanding. I suppose he recognizes that he isn't getting younger and is going at his own pace, with the possibility in the back of his mind that stuff might get unfinished. And of course, whatever happens, I'll respect his work ethic as he chooses to do it. But if he can work on the movie as soon as possible, I hope he does.
