I actually liked the TFA soundtrack. In particular, I thought Rey's Theme was different, but no less fresh and new. I'm sure they will build on this theme and add new layers particularly when Rey is faced with challenges. Same with Kylo Ren. I didn't mind the KR theme. Not bad, but something to work on.
I was really impressed with the Jedi Steps and it's build up to Rey and Luke's meeting. Have a Music background, so a lot going on there. Really shows in my opinion, possibly the emotional/mental journey and state of Luke, possibly some clues into who he has become, but also supporting the cliffhanger with a climactic piece and reveal. Love how they weave the OT themes in very well. Looking forward to more!!

For me, it's the "fullness of the sound quality" that I miss from the OT trilogy music. Something is different. I think, at times, new technology in recording, takes away from the quality and richness of the sound. Ok, too serious now, lol

Remember we're comparing this to some of the most iconic music even written and recorded, so we needed to step back and may be lower our expectations a bit. I do love hearing what Alexandre Desplat (or Andre?) has done with the R1 music. Wow. Love it.
He could very well follow in Williams' footsteps.

It's funny. We hear this about Williams and the rough cut. And on the Rogue One side, it's been crickets for Desplat...

Indeed, remarkable how quiet they've been about Rogue One's score...

Dooo you know something we don't know? Like the others I have heard nothing about him, or R1. I'm excited to hear what he has to offer, though!
As Anakin so eloquently put it: Tell us... tell us now! :p

I quite genuinely heard Hayden Christensen's voice as I read that. :D

Ha ha! I wish. It's a known fact from the clip in the trailer. Just sounded good! Believe me, I know nothing! ha!
But from what I've "heard" , I"m sure (presuming) Williams will be scoring and recording IN LA. Miss the sound they had when recording in London with the OT. But I"m guessing for whatever reasons, it would be better to record in Los Angeles. Luckily, an acquaintance of mine along with others of course recorded some background vocals for the PT years ago and mentioned that would probably be the case.

Just going to have to say that it's pretty damn good news that JW scheduled an early time to start recording for EP8 after seeing an early cut of the film. Makes me think he got hit with lightning and is motivated to deliver another fantastic score. Very exciting times indeed.. ;)

I'm glad JW is back for EpVIII stating it was to make the music for Rey's scenes, can't wait for these as the music playing in TFA was special.

Really? Do you have a link? Didn't know it was specifically to score Rey's scenes.

EDIT: Found it, upper part of this page.

Yep Jeff's post, I'm so glad he gave a reason for doing it, I understand it can be a stressful job mixing the music with the scenes & him doing it for so long but I feel he is doing it also for the fans because they know his scores are vital,

This is great news, his score for The force awakens might not be as bombastic as the previous scores, so deemed by some as not as good. But it is still a great score. And works with the film perfectly. The more you listen to it either with the movie or without , it grows on you more. I actually think it sits with his other Starwars scores just fine.

That seems great. John is in a good shape, so I don't see any reasons why he wouldn't want to conduct. Also, if Rian enjoys the music, then I'm pretty sure it is a good fit for the film. My only wish is that Gustavo Dudamel, guest conductor for The Force Awakens, who also conducted this year's Neujahrskonzert in Vienna with loads of enthusiasm and positive energy, will also conduct some pieces for The Last Jedi. If someone hasn't seen this year's rendition of the concert, then I definitely reccomend seeing it. Also, fun fact - Dudamel was the youngest conductor to conduct Vienna Philharmonic during Neujahrskonzert.

    There was a scoring session....on a Saturday?

That tweet says 12:36 AM. I'm not sure what time zone it is, but the date is today, a Sunday.

I'm having trouble believing they called in the orchestra to record on Saturday (and on a holiday weekend for many people in America) for a movie that's 10 months away.

    Maybe he meant Friday.

That rumour made me really excited when I first heard it, but well... 7 previous instances of JW scoring in usual order turned out "just fine". :)

So, I just let out a huge sigh of relief; this was the only thing worrying me about this movie way off in the back of my mind.

Whilst it sounds like it would have been interesting to see play out, seven great scores and seven great edits that utilise said great scores in the greatest of ways (I may have said "great" one too many times) is a record that I think is impossible to go against, so I'm overjoyed that the process is the same for this film as it has been for every other entry the great and wonderful John Williams (yoda) has scored.
