Possibility is high. I have no proof of this, except that Kathleen Kennedy described Jyn as Joan of Arc - basically someone who inspires, but then burns in the fire of revolution, someone whose role is recognized only in retrospect - which Rogue One literally is. Also, her ultimate sacrifice will add to the story of Rebellion and underline the fact that ultimate victory is not a deed of any one person - even if the face of that victory is Luke Skywalker - but of many who preceded him.

I don't want it to happen, but I can see it.

Galen is not Vader. Leia's father is Darth Vader not Galen Erso. Only kidding with the gun thing.

I really think she will die and the rebels will feel encouraged to honor her death to not giving up. I believe in the theory that her crystal is an important piece to the DeathStar work 100%, she will die and someone will steal this crystal. So the last scene can be a call to Alderaan's explosion.

I've said this before, but then what's the point in making us love the characters? ?

We don't know for sure what 2020's standalone film is going to be. I suppose we could get Rogue One 2 (Rogue 12?) if this is popular enough.

Might not be too bad, either- we could see a side of the Civil War that we never got to see. Though, to be honest, I think we'll at least see the majority of the cast die. This has Halo Reach written all over it.

Perhaps a 13 Assasins type ending would be in order. The team would slowly lose one member after another to get cut down to the last 2. With the last 2 seemingly in a do or die final confrontation or possibly act (i.e. Making the transmission) the leader Jyn will sacrifice herself to allow for the other to escape and go live a peaceful life away from fight. The surviving member would be the youngest and maybe at first the most gung-ho but along the movie they would be the one seeing the worst and being the most impacted. It would allow for a huge dramatic ending, but just leave a small thread of hope and happiness in the one member surviving. Imagining their whereabouts and the goings on of the one survivor during the OT would be a nice little extra but not a crucial loose end.

LOL immediately in my head this song started playing:

    Yep, Vader said:

Darth Vader: [addressing the Tantive IV's captain, whom he is interrogating] Where are those transmissions you intercepted? WHAT have you DONE with those plans?

Princess Leia Organa: Darth Vader. Only you could be so bold. The Imperial Senate will not sit still for this. When they hear you've attacked a diplomatic...
Darth Vader: Don't act so surprised, Your Highness. You weren't on any mercy mission this time. Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by rebel spies. I want to know what happened to the plans they sent you.

    :(

Not at all, it will be only one Han Solo spin-off, for now.

Lol funny how people come with theories hahahaha. Maybe some of them might be using Obi-Wan Kenobi's undercover mission as Rako Hardeen in TCW Season 4 to support their theory on how Princess Leia could have used advanced technology to have different appearance LOL.

Really? Nice! I thought a trilogy felt like an unnecessary stretch.

Same here!!! I mean, if it was a book trilogy I would not mind but I'd rather have a Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off than more than one Han Solo movies.

I expect that Jyn will die at the VERY end of R1. I'm also expecting most (but not all) of the main cast to die, and the rest to either keep fighting with the Rebellion or fade into obscurity. When Vader boarded the Tantive IV in ANH, he mentioned to Leia that he KNEW the plans were there, and also KNEW that several transmissions had been sent to that ship by rebel spies. He likely knew from WHERE specifically they were sent, and by whom....because he likely made the very ground that they were walking on, a smoking hole.

Our R1 rebels (as I said above) are likely nearly all killed, which is why we've never heard of them in the Saga movies. My thoughts on the matter....

Or maybe they survived the encounter with the Empire and found a way to lose the Imperials that were chasing them so they could safely reach Alderaan to wait for the Princess... oh wait.

This seems to be the most plausible and impacting way for the film to end. There's no reconciling the fact that if the main characters survived, they weren't important enough to even be mentioned by name in the OT. So they almost all have to die. It'll make their sacrifice poignant yet devastating. The only roadblock I foresee is that this is a Disney film. Hopefully, they'll understand that the core audience are not children and are mature enough (even the youngest of us) to handle such a melancholy, albeit necessary conclusion.

I mean entirely within two hours...i get it with Qui-Gon, Maul, etc. but regardless of what happens I hope they don't kill off every single one but maybe keep at least Jyn alive

They said that RO will be a war movie right? So I can see they killing some important characters (inclusive Jyn) and releasing books/comics about who survive or before Rogue One (like Catalyst).

Han Solo having a trilogy still is a rumor (It's normal an actor to have contract for x movies, and Han can show up in Boba Fett movie, per example). I think they want to make differents movies with differents stories (JJ said that he wants to see a movie about Knights of Ren, there's a lot of story to tell in an anthology)

KK: The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe.

"The standalone films can be a wide variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe, and they very definitely have a beginning, middle, and end. They are not being designed to necessarily build new franchises. They are really being designed as standalone movies which is fantastic for the filmmakers we bring in, and the actors we hire, because it’s a different sensibility. And the stories can fall pretty much anywhere on the timeline. There is no strict guidelines for what we’re doing."
    (death star)

"Peter: So it sounds like with the anthology films you’re taking the sort of Marvel approach, like Ant-Man’s their heist film, doing different genre stories in the world — so is Rogue One the heist film of this universe?

Kathleen Kennedy: It is to a certain extent. It is definitely in the genre thinking but Star Wars is very different than Marvel in that they basically build their stories around characters, and then they seed those characters in different stories. Star Wars you know is a place, it’s a universe, so those stories are constructed a little differently than Marvel."
