SPECULATION WIll we get Rey and Kylo's backstories told in 8?

I think we will see him become the leader of the knights of renin a flashback but nothing more of any massacres .

 

i hope viii doesn't spend too much time on backstories.

i feel satisfied that the "why" of Kylo Ren's backstory is known at this point.
we lack timing details and information about his relationships with key people: Leia, Snoke, Luke, the KOR, and Vader (which we can get through his present interactions with them).
i'd rather not spend time painfully dwelling on his descent. he's already there. move forward.

same with Rey: if her parents are important, let's find out who they are and why it matters to her choices now.
otherwise, move forward. we already know where she's been and what she's been doing for the last 15 years.

eh. i'm just not a backstory person ~ backstory is exposition. i'm more interested in what the characters will do next.
the whole of the PT was backstory. in the OT we got almost zero backstory. and it worked just fine.

 

The part of the PT is what I agree with you on but we need some answers, if not at least a couple, so we can relate more .

I agree. I don't think there is any need at all for any of Kylo's backstory. Would only slow things down.

They do need to reveal Rey's parents at some point. It is too big of an open Question in people's minds. If it goes unanswered, lots of people will be upset.

 

Who are Rey's parents?

That is by far the biggest questions asked after seeing TFA, so if that question isn't answered in Episode 8, I'm not gonna be the only angry fan!

 

I want to see more of why knights of ren are standing over bodies and kylo walking towards rey...

Haha, I can't tell if you're being flippant - but I agree. (I think?)

There are ways to give us a fuller picture of what happened with Ben Solo pre-Kylo Ren, for instance, that don't involve a long expository monologue from Luke, or an elaborate flashback sequence to interrupt proceedings. I couldn't say what that is, but I want to hear something, and I trust they'll make it brief, articulate, and effective.

If for no one's benefit but Rey's - because she'll need to understand who she's up against, right?

They are massacring a Jedi temple in order to find and retrieve the Bespin lightsaber. This detail was supposed to be included in TFA, in the flashback scene. It made it as far as the shooting schedule, it got leaked to the public but was taken out at the last second to include in later movies.

 

Maybe even "From a certain point of view" ?

 

I suspect we will get some brief exposition about Kylo's fall. It will be done efficiently with just a few lines.

 

I'm interested in reading more on this. Do you have any sources?
