Your top 5 must-haves for TFA (and the ST in general)

1. A smartly plotted story that doesn't rely on coincidence or "the will of the force" to get from beat to beat.

2. Interesting, three dimensional characters with clear and compelling motivations.

3. A tangible sense of danger.

4. Cool mysterious villains.

5. Credits before the movies so that the directors won't get kicked out of the Union, thus leaving the franchise in the hands of also-rans.

 

My top 5 must haves for TFA:

1. Luke Skywalker (is the only thing I need)
2. Yellow Lightsaber (or Orange)
3. A Darth Vader cameo (or Alec Guinness one)

I'am easy to please.

 

1. Good dialogue with witty humor.
2. Great special effects with many photorealistic practical moments.
3. Lightsaber duels must be slower, more epic and impactful.
4. At least 10 minutes screen time each for Luke, Leia and Han.
5. The film must take its time during the quiet moments, and immerse us into the alien cultures and environments. Star Wars desperately needs to have a new Cantina moment.

 

My Top 5 must haves for TFA would be:

2. Mid/late movie family revelations
3. Smart injections of humor
4. A reason to believe that these movies aren't just a means to an end by Disney
5. Kick-ass score from John Williams

1. Leia being a skilled leader and tactician
2. Luke kicking some serious ass using the force
3. Some R2D2 and BB8 beef

5. Kylo's obsession with Vader

 

TFA wants.
-Duel between Luke and Kylo Ren
-Rey being Han&Leia's kid
-Han not having a cheesy death with some cheesy one liner
-Luke in more then one scene
-Scene with BB-8 rolling around R2D2 or something like that
-Dogfighting with X-wings and Tie fighters, seeing we're getting Tie fighters dueling the Falcon
-Scene with a flashback of Luke's padawans dying with only Ren and Rey surviving
-A brief scene with Uber so we finally find out who or what it is
-Blaster duel between Finn and Captain Phasma
-Space battle
-New Star wars music mixed with the old

1. Rebuilding of Jedi and Sith orders

* a limb being cut off
* luke kicking ass, ive waited almost 20 year for this, gimme gimme
* lots of neato background aliens
* some clue as to what's been going on in universe for 35 years.

 

- a classic Star Wars scroll and space ship cut-to scene to start the movie.
- a strong, original story that captivates for the entire movie. Please let the writing be really good! The dearth of original screenwriting and plot structures the last few years is disappointing in the sci-fi/fantasy genre.
- new cool ships that lead to more iconic merchandise, for both sides. Hopefully, the resistance and new republic has its own manufacturing supplier and isn't buying its military gear from Watto Jr.'s used empire starship dealership.
- a Jedi academy, functioning out in the open or in secret. I think it would really stink to find out Luke tried and failed to rebuild the order. Hopefully, those rumors are not entirely true. Thus, at least one or two lightsaber battles.
- a great ending, such that I won't want to leave the theater until after the next screening.

2. Son of Luke Skywalker becoming main character at some point in trilogy

3. Yoda and other force ghosts

4. Expanded worlds like seen on coruscant underworld in episode II

5. Easter eggs/ nods and or throwbacks to the original and prequel triolgies

 

1. Long Scenes in witch characters would explore a place or a space without without having to cut sequences too far from each other. (think copacabana shot in goodfellas)

2. being able to see a scenery that will give you an even bigger and more detailed sense of scale than the first shot in trailer 2 of the crashed star destroyer.

3. give us a new style of fighting that is between kendo and darth maul acrobatics

4. show us a jedi character throwing a light saber at someone and cutting person's arm (beam length controlled kylo ren sword?)

5. easter egg of that weird alien guy from star trek 2009 and 2012
and the green woman and the 2 cat ladies

3. Authentic feel -> not a fan movie feel
4. NO force powers for finn

1. Epic scenes showing off Luke's power...think Old Republic trailer style. maybe fighting using force push and lightning.
2. AT AT Walkers, old and new and improved
3. new aliens to add to the pop culture like yoda and chewbacca
4. Qui Gon, Yoda, and young Obi Wan force ghosts...or from a Holocron to speak to Luke
5. NO OT CHARACTERS DYING PLEASE....you do NOT need them to die to have drama!!!
6. good bad guys, imperial officers that impress, and new imperial ships
7. that old, used space look from the originals
8. a great new sound track from Williams that blends with the original and Duel of the Fates
9. explain how the Force is awakening......
10. Have Vader or Palpatine speak to Kylo from a sith Holocron or amulet
11. Make the new characters all offspring of the OT characters, except Finn.... have him make his own destiny

 

Some random bits I'd think would up the fan/viewer reaction to TFA:
1) Classic OT dialogue: "I've got a bad feeling about this!", "The Force is strong with this one.", "May the Force be with You." etc.
2) Storm troopers or bad guys that HIT what they aim at or like the Clone Wars battles: cool realistically portrayed weapons: mini gun laser cannons, sniper rifles, grenades or bazookas, mines-IEDs.
I saw images of a rebel(resistance) troop landing like resembled the D Day invasion scene in Saving Private Ryan(1998). The CGI-SFX were terrific. It was raining and the rebels were fighting AT-ATs, Scout Walkers.
If you get a chance, watch the new Star Wars Battlefronts game trailer. That's a good way to impress fans.
3) Better acting-direction of the young leads. The awful line delivery and dry, meaningless expressions of the PT actors(Portman, Macgregor, Christensan, etc) really distracted & lessened some of the key scenes of the films. ROTS was pivotal because it resolved the Skywalker storyline and detailed how Vader came together.
Actors need motivation and direction. You can't MAKE them Star Wars fans or feel any depth or emotion if they clearly don't comprehend the script or the storyline. In fairness, I could see how talking to a green screen or looking at a huge bored crew on a drafty soundstage for 12-15 hours a day can get annoying but that's what acting is.
4) TFA & the ST should include the surprise moments like the Tusken Raider(ANH) or the Wampa attack. That keeps the audience alert and entertained.
5) NO lens flares or Star Trek film images-devices. I found JJ's lens flares and everybody look(which is common in Steven Speilberg films) scenes a bit annoying. The ST should be like JJ/Bad Robot told the media; a gritty, dirty 70s era western type feel with real muppets/SFX and less CGI or post production stuff.

 

1. A fun, original story with great writing and great characters.
2. Seeing the OT characters, but keeping focus mostly on the new cast.
3. Kylo Ren, just get the feeling he's gonna be a badass villain.
4. John Williams score, need I say more he never disappoints.
5. The cinematography, sets, costumes, and visual effects are able to immerse me back into the amazing Star Wars universe!
