Your top 5 must-haves for TFA (and the ST in general)

The death of an OT character..

Kylo Ren in a lightsaber fight.

Han Solo and Chewie in action.

A fantastic soundtrack..

 

-The movie has a sense of adventure like the OT movies.

-Rey, Finn, and Poe are likeable and relatable even if any one of them is a force user.

-The movie be around 2 hours long as all the great blockbuster movies from the 70's/80's came in at that length.

-Luke, Leia, and Han have limited but important roles. Less is more so we appreciate when they're on screen.

-John Williams comes up with some great new themes that blend with older themes from previous SW movies.

 

This is hard for me. I am not sure I can pin it down. I am fairly open in my expectations.

1- I really really want Han and Leia still together and in love. They have missions and responsibilities that might separate them but I don't want to see estranged lovers rekindle it. Over done and already done by Ford. If there is a split I hope it is ideological not "Han is just not that kinda guy." Meaning both the 1st Order and either the Republic or the Resistance have a super weapon. That is a great reason for a split.

2- A pace that allows for really developing characters. I liked Into Darkness but in order to really "get" the depth of the story I had to know the OTS and enjoy the juxtaposition of the narrative differences from the Wrath of Khan. Meaning JJ made a movie that relied on past stories to define the characters so that he could pack action into the film. I want intense amazing action but not so much that I still don't know Finn, Rey or Poe.

3- I love Han he is one of the best characters. Having no characters in his archetype was one of the failings of the PT. But I think the jaded cynic needs to give up his life for something outside of himself. Its the end of his arc. I don't want him to die. Don't get me wrong but it really needs to happen. The scene in my head is Han trying to face Kylo Chewie is running to save him and tries to take the sabre for Han and save him but he is too late and only gets an arm in the way. Thus Han gets hit fatally, Chewie lose an arm. Chewie roars in anguish and gets an awesome beefy metal arm like Hellboy. Probably won't happen like that at all.

4- Less humans. It looks like the only diversity we see is the pirates or back ground characters. I am hoping that there is a sense of a large galaxy in general not just in wacky scenes.

5- The right mix of space fantasy.

 

Forgot to mention that I hope Han/Leia are still married. Since the trilogy is not about them they won't have to develop why they split, so the best thing to do with the Big 3 is don't veer too far off from their characters we came to love.

Plus it would be sad to hear Han talking to Chewy, "Leia took 1/2 of everything in the divorce and she got the falcon cause she had a better lawyer!"

 

Look here furball her worship got the Falcon and your little buddy Wicket all I got was you and a restraining order.

 

1. No lady in a hat in the seat in front of me.
2. No YouTuber trying to record the movie on his iPhone next to me.
3. Popcorn. With free refills.
4. Dr. Pepper. With ice. And a straw that doesn't make that slurping sound when there's nothing left to suck but ice.
5. Carrie Fisher as my date for the evening.

 

My top 5 for TFA:

1. Really substantive character-building for the new cast. Don't just tell me, show me.
2. With that said, I also want sharp, unforced dialogue. No "I hate sand" or "You're shorter than I expected." "I expected someone taller" (grates every time...)
3. Limited but extremely important participation from the original cast.
4. Villains who keep their motives/plans underwraps - more should be revealed later.
5. I want TFA to make the friendships between the protagonists feel real and solid.

My top 5 for the ST:

1. Firm establishment of the new cast as the centerpieces of this trilogy.
2. No mention - at all - of midichlorians.
3. Villains that have really good and dangerous plans that are secretive for quite a while.
4. Impressive displays of Force power.
5. Sith vs. Jedi. Jedi win and finish ep. IX in triumphant fashion, with statues of Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Luke shown outside of the new Jedi Temple while said victorious Jedi process in during the closing celebration.

 

1) Something unexpected and original from JJ. I fully expect this, and I know he won't let me down.

2) Luke using his Lightsaber/kicking butt. A surprise reveal in TFA, I also look forward to. I also ask that Luke be sane.

3) John Williams! (Check!)

4) Characters deep enough and likable enough to carry the torch forward.

I'd also kinda like something about Force ghosts. Either the presence of one at some point, or them mention of (one of) them.

 

In JJ & JW we trust. Anyway here's mine.

1: A new famous quote
2: A girl on girl lightsaber duel
3: Leia finally using a lightsaber.
4: Another jedi temple visited.
5: Kylo's unmasking.

 

I really like that list, actually. Kylo's unmasking is bound to carry some kind of surprise, either physically, or character/story-wise, or both.

I forgot to mention Leia in my list, I really liked the fact that Luke tells her in Jedi that she'll learn to use the Force, in time, just as he has.

A new Jedi Temple could be very interesting. I had an image in my head when the ST was first announced, something I *really* wanted to see.. I really loved the image of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master, standing in the ruined and abandoned spire of the Jedi High Council on Coruscant, just as his father had done just before the fall of the Jedi.. Now, Luke stands there just before it's beginning.

 

I'm glad you like it, Kylo's unmasking is probably gonna happen anyway to go through 3 movies & still wearing it have people ''saying what are they are trying to hide, we don't judge on appearance'' etc I mentioned Leia next because I'm sure anyone else did I just think the end of the trilogy really belongs to Rey etc it's want I think would be a passing of the torch moment, Han/Leia/Luke's sacrifice for her & the others to create a better future, the temple visit for me would go to Luke & Leia to seek guidance from a late jedi master, Yoda maybe, before they go on one last mission Leia saying ''Han would have want it to end this way'', Luke ''I know he was wise, lets not disappoint him''.

 

1 - JUMP TO HYPERSPACE EFFECTS!!! distorted star-lines / blue wormhole effect
2 - Cool mysterious villains. that REALLY put fear on the audience. Kylo and Snoke for the moment were good, but we need to confirm that on the big screen
3 - Luke has to be the lengendary-last-never-seen-anymore-jedi-knight that saves the day in a final lightsaber with kylo ren, and kylo survives for EP VIII
4 - A misterious trench run emotion on the entire movie like the hype of the first teaser.
5 - Make the hype for "pratical effects" really worth - Make we believe that world is REAL (holy crap look the size of that thing) EVEN after all these years of evolution of special effects, in other words: we have to feel we're seeing star wars for the first time.

 

I missed that in the PT.

1 - JUMP TO HYPERSPACE EFFECTS!!!;
2 - A good surprise for the plot;
3 - Han or Luke must die in one of the episodes;
4 - Great new characters;
5 - And good themes by John Williams.

I really want a great story with amazing characters.

A great ending with a sense of mystery. I want unanswered questions making me crave for ep VIII.

The rest is Star Wars. So I don't worry about it...

 

1. Ren and Rey being brother and sister
2. Finn and Rey train in th force
3. Luke, LEIA and Han emotionally reunite for a scene
4. Kylo Ren kills a main hero, new or old
5. The force is explored more than any other movie, to the extent it's explored in stories like KOTOR

 

That's made me wondering about something that I read in some place (I don't remember if was here).

ANH (first chapter of OT): Celebration in Yavin IV, the heroes being honored.
TPM (first chapter of PT): Celebration in Naboo, heroes being honored again.
TFA (first chapter of ST): Celebration???

 

one more thing i want to see is the crowd cheering when we finally get to see Luke skywalker
