There are several problems with this.
1) Han is one of the most heroic characters in the history of cinema. He does not get killed by a Scum bag with a hard on for Darth Vader. He might get killed by a sith Lord, but not a stupid wanna be sith clone.
2) and in bold WHY WOULD HAN SOLO CONFRONT A SITH LORD BY HIMSELF WITHOUT LUKE. In all of the OT Han never, ever, ever, ever confronted someone of this size unless he was surprised, alah Lando. So there would have to be more to this story.

I'm not discounting it, but if it is, then a)Kylo is a Sith Lord and b) he was somewhere he was not supposed to be.

You do not make a feel good movie about the death of Han solo. When Obi Wan and Qui Gon died nobody knew who they were. They had less than a film of screen time at the time of their death. Yoda, died in his sleep.

Lastly, and this should be remembered. Films like this would shoot multiple endings and multiple key scenes to prevent leaks and allow themselves to change their minds in editing. I can't count the number of times Stallone has tried to Kill Rocky, and every time it gets vetoed and the film gets changed.

 

He doesn't know Kylo's a complete loon. And, as his father, even if someone warns Han of his kid's madness, the elder Solo will believe he can discipline the kid or at least get him to listen to his old man. That's what makes it an even greater gut punch to Han, and to us. The best part is, most OT fans, are parents of their own by now, if not grandparents, so this will tug on lots and lots of emotions. This is actually making me question whether or not I take my kids to see it now. Patricide... eh... of the coolest character in the SW universe... eh... in the first film with them after 30+ years? Eh. The internet is going to drown in salty tears...

I tell you this, the rest of the damn film had better be amazing...
otherwise, JJ will never live this down.

 

Where in the article does it remotely confirm Kylo Ren Solo? or Rey Solo for that matter?

 

He's asking if Jason has ever confirmed that or not.

 

It doesn't. A large number if not most people have assumed these are the kids of Han and Leia. For all we know Kylo was modeled after an EU Sith lord whose name was changed because they changed his background. We don't know anything really. We don't even know if Han and Leia ever saw each other again after Jedi.

My only point was not that Han can't die, its that 1) you murdered my childhood hero, he will die at the hands of a Darth Vader type not a) his son, or b) some punk kid. He will die a heroes death. if the new characters aren't as likeable as you think, you have killed the series for ever. The only thing the film is about is the death of Han, nothing else in the plot matters.

 

Jason has not, outside of spoilerman type sources there is no evidence for Kylo Ren Solo

 

To me, this scenario for Han's death does not sound like he is Han's son or Rey's brother. If she watches her brother kill her dad, i don't think there's any way anyone will be able to hold her back from beating the crap out of her brother.

He could not know Han is his father or he straight up hates his father.

 

All the more reason to do it.

She will avenge her father's death at the hands of her brother.

She attempts to save his soul (ala Luke and Anakin) which may be her father's dying last words and the reason he inserts him into this mess in the first place. He believes there is still good in him.

One of the most beloved, absolutely. The coolest? That's debatable. The Internet is full of ridiculousness, this rumor proving true won't be the beginning of absurd melodrama from fanatics.

A ton of assumptions here. None of which I agree with. Another assumption, one of my own: I have faith in TPTB that they will do this right and TFA will be the beginning of a new era of prosperity for the Star Wars universe. An iconic character may meet his demise, but that won't be the end of the saga.

Imagine the real acting required for showing the emotion required to mourn the loss of Han Solo. Acting we haven't seen since Ewan 10 years ago. Pure raw emotion. We will be mourning and so will the other characters. Imagine Leia's reaction. She will show the kind of emotion her character has never shown. She will have to be floored by this happening. Luke in shock and consoling Leia and Rey. Even Poe shows emotion for a man he idolizes and who's daughter he is in love with.

Kind of beautiful.

 

Well, the more intelligent crowd sniffed this out a long time ago. The intuitive crowd knows it will be father and son. Thankfully I am a member of both groups.

 

I said from very early on that Han Solo is going to die in this movie, we need not look further then the Monomyth (which is highly Eurocentric but that's a discussion for another time). The mentor has to die, in just Star Wars we have Obi-Wan for the OT and Qui-Gonn for the PT. It shows the hero that they are now moving forward alone and makes the villain a credible threat.

What both the OT and the PT did not have was the ability to make the mentor death truly hit us hard, which Han's death will provide. It will be a defining moment of the saga and one of the legendary love it or hate it moments of the ST. We as an audience will get to feel the emotional weight that Rey and the others will feel at the slaying of their mentor.

The only thing I thought we would have is Luke accidentally being the cause of Han's death but I suppose Luke would be tortured enough at that point. Thematic devices I needed for my plot points are being provided by other sources so I can accept this current direction.

 

I agree with this. To me, if you want emotional impact, Han being Kylos father and attempting to reason with him before being killed by his own son, will have huge impact on the audience. We will all want Luke to go crazy on him, but I don't believe that will be the case. I think the new characters will ultimately need to take Kylo down in a future movie. Sister versus Brother maybe?
