The skywalker family is maybe just the exeption of the rule. In no canon or non canon way the force is transferred via genes, otherwise I dont get the celebacy of Jedi or why Sith dont´t start to breed with 5 women like Immortan Joe.

I'm guessing that Sith are largely concerned with themselves. Sheev could have pulled prima nocta on anyone in the Galaxy (ew), but as far as canon indicates, he chose not to because of his selfish nature. Besides, it's not like he'd want to become a dad or anything.

When I write "not really genetic" I am attempting to put an emphasis on the spiritual, mythical side of this issue and minimize the scientific side. By definition genetics is the study of hereditary genes. IF, Anakin was immaculately conceived, he did not inherit the genes.

There is obviously a scientific basis on some level of this, however if you attempt to limit the discussion of the Force and Midichlorians to purely scientific reasoning you lose out on the fun, mystical aspect of its intended interpretation. IMO, of course.

Yep and that is why it is so unnecesarry it doesnt add a single bit. Why introduce a scale of 20k and then there is somebody who goes beyond that, just to establish that the chosen one is better then even yoda or at least to give Obi Wan something to do while he is waiting. It would have been better to let qui gon see him in maybe a force vision or something.

The good news, is that Jedi and Sith have lost knowledge in the past decades.

Which is why that wasn't done in the prequels.

The Jedi Council didn't care about the midi-chlorian count in the least. That argument didn't work. The prophecy was the thing that made them bring Anakin in for training AFTER they knew for sure the Sith were back.

So why some fans who don't like the midi-chlorians argue things about them that weren't in the movies themselves it gets rather confusing.

They seem for some reason to cling to the absurd idea that Luke's father being a powerful Jedi had nothing to do with his own power in the Force when it clearly runs strong in his family. The father has it, he had it, his sister has it.

What the actual "problem" is seems to be tied to the false first impression of the Force that anyone can do it with the training and be powerful. Yes anyone can do the training but the training is not for everyone and it's long and hard and doesn't mean you will be super-powerful like Anakin, Mace, Yoda, Obi-Wan or Luke. Those are the super-elite.

Luke is a super-elite. That's why with minimal training he could become so powerful so quickly. Luke isn't just some farm boy. He's a super powerful being who thinks he was a farm boy.

The Jedi don't condone families because that make a hereditary elite as opposed ones created by the will of the Force not the will of the Jedi.

Lucas pointed out that the reasoning about midichloreans was to touch on the theme of symbiotic relationships that he was pushing in TPM. We need the midichloreans to know the force, the Naboo need the gungans and so on. It wasn't just a line to justify surprise.

For sure. I just don't think a genetic component makes it less magical. Space wizards begetting space wizards is still super mystical to me.

I think we will have a lot of fun discussing Daisy Ridley's "Oh really????" ;)

IMO: the key is Kathleen's face at that moment. So serious, like: "WTF are you asking about? we told you that wasn't in the menu!" (duel)

Also, Daisy says "I guess because I have said that I am 'solitary', that's how I begin – that is probably a big clue as to what it is." .... A Solo?

At 03:50 of the video below, KK says something interesting about the whole cast appearing together on screen. Should I take it literally? :)

Nice find, well, I'm not sure if it was meant literally as in there is a scene where we can see everyone together at the same time. But it certainly doesn't sound as it could entertain the possibility of Luke appearing only at the end.

http://makingstarwars.net/2015/05/tidbit-about-reys-fighting-style-in-star-wars-the-force-awakens/ According to this report by Jesse Tschopp at MakingStarwars.com, our heroine Rey primarily uses her staff, as her weapon of choice. In fact, Daisy has reportedly became so " good at bojutsu (the martial art of staff fighting much like Darth Maul) that even grown men on the set fear it..."

Do we get to see a double-bladed lightsaber again by Episode 8? Count this old fan excited at the prospect of a yellow double-blade firing up against two red saber wielding Sith Lords....

I think it would be really cool to see Rey have a double bladed lightsaber in VIII. I think it would fit nicely with her use of the staff in TFA.

The last time we saw a double bladed lightsaber, we got an awful movie. This will be the opposite of that!

I think Daisy will knock it out of the park based on what we've been hearing. :)

    What about the babykiller then?
Who gets it? According to MSW I thought that its Reys fate - which she at first rejects - to wield it.

The rumors have her returning it to Luke. I think her rejection of the lightsaber is two fold.

    1. The physical rejection of it and not wanting it and
    2. The metaphorical rejection of by not taking the saber she is rejecting her destiny as a Jedi.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the Anakin/Luke saber.

Why would she somehow get a double bladed lightsaber when the whole plot of TFA revolves around finding Lukes old saber? It would make the whole plot of TFA pointless.... Luke already has the green saber, so Rey would have the blue saber all to herself. That saber would be a family heirloom passed through 3 generations. It would look really awesome to have a double bladed lightsaber but it wouldn't make any sense at all.
