I'm fresh off re-watching all the Star Wars films thanks to them being TNT. After the fall of the Republic, Palpatine converted the Jedi Temple into his Imperial Palace. The Jedi Temple was originally built over a Sith shrine.

I would assume at some point Luke visited the location.

The Jedi Temple is a huge part of Jedi history, the prequel trilogy and the Clone Wars. It's fall and subsequent slaughter of the younglings in Revenge of the Sith is one of the most tragic moments in Star Wars. It would be great that if the Jedi are to rise again that they would restore the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and put this horrible moment in history behind them.

I think we are most likely not going to see Coruscant in VIII. I don't think we will see any planets from previous movies.

I don't think we'll see it either. I think the only reason we *would* see it is if it were still the seat of government. I just don't see us rebuilding the Jedi temple, unless we're using it as imagery to suggest the Jedi are repeating history (and mistakes). We're not there yet in Episode VIII.

At the end of the TFA there is no seat of government. Also, the Jedi Temple probably wouldn't have to be rebuilt since that's where Palpatine was living.

On the one hand I would love to revisit planets from the Prequel era (especially Coruscant) but on the other hand they shouldn't show those known locations. I would rather see completely new worlds/planets.

To answer your question: no, I don't think we will see Coruscant in the ST. But maybe it will be mentioned in some context...

I'm with you... generally I'm against making the world smaller. I think some of it stems from how much of a buzz kill Revenge of the Sith is... in some ways the Sith's win in Episode III is bigger than the Jedi's win in Episode VI. The Jedi Temple is the symbol that Sidious destroyed and then he decided to live there.

If we're going to see Coruscant, we're going to see it in Ep.9, after the hypotetical "final clash". Hosnian has been destroyed, so the Republic needs a new capital, and what better capital than the old and glorious Coruscant?

In this way, the "ballance" would be totally restored. Ep.9 will mirror Ep.1, with the Senate and the Republic Capital in the right place, waiting for some other taxes and trade federation crisis!

I would love for Coruscant to appear in more Star Wars films, but I don't think TPTB will make it so.

Yes I'd like to see it. I think it has value. This was the centre of the galaxy for, I imagine, many hundreds of years. It was where the Jedi spent their best years.

I'd like to see Rey and Luke go there to learn about the past, about Anakin and find some hidden secrets.

Thematically I think it would work well in terms of the past events continuing to cast a shadow over the present and also in the new characters learning truth from legend.

It would also be really cool to see Luke walking around the Jedi temple!

Isn't 1313 located on Coruscant? I could MAYBE see a call back to that somehow.

Based on TFA, our heroes will probably visit a planet that looks exactly like Coruscant and serves the same narrative function but has a different name.

I REALLY REALLY want to see Coruscant again...it's feeling like such a rich historical place and they shouldn't leave it to rot just because it's a prequel creation .

In the end it was different, but fans still not happy and want to revisit all the old planets again;), ironic isn't it.

It is not. Corooscant apeared in RotJedi SE. And no one said prequels references are forbidden, actually we got a lot for something that went on 70 years ago.

You mean Hosnian? It has been destroyed after 5 seconds of screen time!

PS: I didn't read any new SW novels, so can someone explain me why after ROTJ the capital has been shifted to Hosnian?

When I first watched TFA I was convinced that it was Coruscant and that they just said that it was part of the Hosnian system. For me, because of what was established with Coruscant, that scene had greater meaning. Then I discovered the truth and I was as bored with that scene as I was with the majority of the film! :(

Ok, but it was destroyed, so: how can be that, according to TFA, "our heroes will probably visit a planet that looks exactly like Coruscant"? I just didn't understand that post...

i'm watching The Clone Wars (i'm halfway through season 3) and it occurred to me yesterday that there's been some criticism about TFA because we didn't really see any metropolitan areas on the scale of the PT in the new movie. The Clone Wars focuses on a lot of cities over a lot of systems in keeping with that theme, but the OT was very small in scale (for practical reasons, partly--it just wasn't easy to build whole cities back then and make them convincing).

but also this: Star Wars was originally a "space western", which means it was intentionally set on the frontier of the galaxy in remote outposts, desert planets, etc. you don't see sprawling metropolises in High Noon or Dances with Wolves because thematically the fact of "civilization" is not the point.

i think TFA was following in that same tradition. but i also think the story will move into the cities (spoilers seem to confirm this).

so will we see Corucsant? if it's relevant to the tale, i don't see why not. if it's not relevant, then we'll likely see something similar on a different planet. if the seat of government was switched over to the Hosnian system, it's entirely possible Coruscant did not weather the Galactic War in a way to keep it politically critical. if the Imperials destroyed much of it on their way out the door (as defeated ruling powers often do), or if the people themselves destoyed it (as sometimes usurpers do), it would have made sense for the New Republic to establish a seat elsewhere. if only to not try to build in a place so tainted with evil.

    this pretty much.

re-visiting a major planet that had heavy use in a previous film would not be high on the list for the new trilogy. unless it's very relevant to the story.. it's a safer choice to use somewhere new.

if we are going to see familiar places in the coming movies.. more likely to be one of the 'backwater' type planets.

If we do see Coruscant it would have to be Rey & Luke visiting the jedi temple for info.
