I bought tickets for 'Rampage' next week and for 'Deadpool 2' for 22nd May (1 day before Solo preview). That was my movie budget for May/June and before I go into summer vacation.

Congratulations. I bought 2 more tickets for friends for Solo opening night and will see it a few extra times that fit into my May/June budget just to spite you and your kind. Please feel free to honor your statement you would not comment on Solo threads any more.

While I’m not really excited about Solo, I’m not a fan of the fans calling for a boycott. I think the audience always speaks for itself without some preplanned groupthink.

I will say that as a person who has seen every SW movie opening night (except in 1977 because nobody knew about Star Wars yet) this will be the first SW movie I won’t be seeing in the theater.

And I say this as a person who has liked the SW Disney movies, so I am no basher here to crap on everyone’s fun. Something happened to me after TLJ where I’m just not super excited for a new SW movie anymore as I can wait for Cable/Streaming. And I was surprised that most of my friends feel the same way as there is just no buzz with them regarding the Solo movie.

It is what it is as I don’t begrudge anyone who continues to enjoy Disney SW movies, but they may not be for me the same way they were before? It happens, but there are fans out there (who don’t post on the internet) who feel the same way I do.

I only see this opinion on the internet. Some people who are "not super excited" are super excited to tell people on the internet they're "not super excited." Okay?

I think we as Star Wars fans underestimate how small of a group we really are. Even numbering in hundreds of millions across the world, we are tiny. Tiny, but loud.

I have a feeling that those calling for the boycott will be veeeeery disappointed. Solo comes out during the Memorial weekend in the U.S. People will go to the movies with their entire family. And they are not going to take their kids to Deadpool 2, but to a fun, summer adventure with cool ships and the big dog in it. General audience does not analyze everything to death like we do. They'll take a look at the article titles and see 'fun, fun, fun'. They like Han Solo, they like Chewie and that will be enough for them.

Additionally, Solo does not require for you to have seen any other SW movie. It's a good entry point and another plus for it. The only thing working against it is being too close to another SW movie. The audience isn't trained like with Marvel to see another one every 4-6 months. But, it's closest competition - Incredibles 2 - isn't out until June 14th. That will give it room to make it's money, at least in the U.S.

I figured someone would ask this question, and I can easily answer that. The reason fans are doing this (like me) is because this is a new thing for us and it sort of odd that we don't feel hyped for a SW movie. Even during the PT era (when fans had problems with TPM & AOTC), there was still excitement for ROTS as that ended up outgrossing AOTC, so fans didn't bolt from the franchise.

Solo is the first SW movie that I am not crazy excited for, and I am surprised that my friends feel the same way. We usually book SW tickets by now for opening night, and none of us have bought tickets. Now I want to reiterate that my friends aren't moaning and groaning at how much they hate SW and they aren't saying Kathleen Kennedy should be fired like what you hear on the internet. They are genuinely not hyped for Solo or Episode 9, and this is something new because the hype for a SW movie was just as fun as the movie.

Again, I am not even talking about a boycott or death to SW because that is not my point. But there is something going on with Solo and Episode 9 that feels different then before with many fans, and that is a huge difference then before when the excitement of a SW movie was insane for fans like me and my friends.

I think this is pretty spot on, though obviously not across the board. It's a fair summation of my current feelings. I'm not super excited for either Solo or IX but I certainly was for VII, R1 and XIII but XIII, unfortunately, has tempered enthusiasm and excitement.

I didn't really want a Solo film, but I'm a Star Wars fan. I hated Attack of the Clones and I saw Revenge of the Sith because I'm a Star Wars fan. I write in this forum because I'm a Star Wars fan. Me and all my hearsay friends are going to see Solo.

Again, when I wrote my post I don't want to sound like I am speaking for all of the fans. I think Solo will do well at the Box Office and so will Episode 9, as the SW is too big to fail. I'm just saying that there is a segment of people I know that were super-charged for previous SW movies, and the air sort of came out of them after TLJ and there just isn't that hype for Solo and Episode 9.

Most intelligent fans actually go in for Solo to beat EP. VIII.in cinema.

That will be the best verdict of EP VIII.

I believe its even possible some cabal tried to spoil Solo(a diversion) with complete synopsis leak, but this will not prevent it to beat TLJ.

I think there's a pretty clear distinction between casual fans and hardcore fans. Star Wars is a pretty unique cultural phenomenon, in the sense that many casual moviegoers know the basic stories and characters of almost all the films. One of my close friends is a good example, he's only seen the movies about two times each, compared to myself who's lost count beyond 100 times. He hasn't read a single comic book or seen TCW, while I've read and seen plenty. So while he may not be able to name a character such as Wicket if I showed him a picture, he knows the basic story about the main saga and characters such as Anakin, Obi-Wan, Luke and Han. He didn't like TLJ and hated what they did to Luke's character. Besides him, I've talked to other people in my life about the same thing. So if a casual moviegoer can be disappointed with TLJ based on what they though they knew about Star Wars before, I think nobody should underestimate the "fans".

@Boss Vos I am not even talking about casual fans, I am talking really general audience - people who go to the theater 4-5 times a year, because when they show up, movie makes money. I listened to a SW podcast recently and the hosts gave great examples, but one in particular: one was buying a SW toy - a great conversation starter - and a cashier told him he liked SW and Han Solo in particular and he'd like a movie about him. Host: "Now that you've mentioned it..." :D That was about a month and a half ago, before the media blitz.

@McDiarmid While I like you optimism (and your way of 'fighting'), there's no chance in hell. We'd be lucky (well, Disney really) if Solo hits 800-900 millions. Even a billion (around RO money) is possible if it really hits with the general audience. The competition among summer movies (and Infinity War was the first one, though it's technically still spring) will eat the box office, even if everyone loves it. There is just so many things coming out. Solo will have to make the bulk of its money in three weeks. After that: Incredibles 2, Jurassic World 2, Sicario 2, Ant Man and the Wasp... and on and on. Not to mention that IW and Deadpool 2 will still be in the theaters.

The Last Jedi had Jumanji and that's it for two+ months.

It's ironic. They can't wait to tell you in the comment section of a STAR WARS YouTube video that Star Wars is dead. Here's the thing though, you actually have to not give a d***. The fact that you felt the need to post that means Star Wars is clearly not dead.

I totally agree. I don't mean any type of disrespect for anyone with this, but I find hard to fathom a "true fan" calling for a boycott and (as I have seen writing by some here) that they hope the ST completely fails. I just don't get it. I do understand your other comment ..

I can see that being a strange feeling, loving a franchise and then all of sudden disenfranchised after seen one you didn't agree with. But I kinda look at it like this, that if a lot of us had the "boycott" and "fail" mentality when we were growing up through the OT era, most fans wouldn't have seen anything after ANH because of the Holiday Special. (which It didn't bother me, lol)
