On ROTS, I would say the promise of seeing Anakin become Darth Vader drove that movie more so than dedication after AOTC.

It won't, and that's completely alright. But it definitely puts the "nobody wanted or asked for this movie" narrative to rest.
Along with the "this is the last time you'll get to see a Star Wars movie in theaters" hype that most of us fell for years before Disney bought Lucasfilm.

Is there anything bad about MoviePass? Also, can you use it for concessions?

The only thing bad things about it right now is
    - Only limited to 2d movies.
    - MoviePass won't allow you see any IMAX or 3D movies (but that may change down the road)
    - One movie per day (not a deal breaker at least for me)
    - Only good for 1 person. If you want to take wife/husband or gf/bf they would need to subscribe to MoviePass as well
    - You can only see a particular movie once. You can't see Solo or Deadpool 2 6 times in a month. (that was something that they recently change because too many abused it and tried to gamed them)

+ The positives. Only $10 month to see unlimited amount of movies at a theater. You can't beat that type of deal.

I'm going to use it for Deadpool 2. I paid for the Solo movie ticket because I want to see the first showing in 2D IMAX next Thursday. Unfortunately, it doesn't pay for concessions so that's coming out of our own pocket.

I should have jumped on that deal they had going around when I had the chance! Although, I'm still not sure I want to do MoviePass, simply because I work a ton now and haven't been going to the movies as much. However, just 1 movie per month and it's basically paid for. My goodness, 1st-world problems.

I know what you mean. If you're not planing on going to the movies often, than it's not really worth it. I believe if you start subscription then cancel it, they'll make you wait around 9 months before you can subscribe again or something crazy like that.

seeing people post that they were able to get Tickets with no problem. It is showing me that some kind of lie was produced for the "papers".

i got a ticket for TFA for opening day (2nd showing) despite not bothering about it until my brother finally convinced me to go the Saturday before.
and it wasn't even a neck-craning seat. [shrug]

What is it about Star Wars that inspires such delusions?

It does depend on where you live. I had no problems getting tickets for Infinity War the week of.

The same thing that inspires comic book fans to come up with conspiracies when critics don't share the same enthusiasm for their movies - confirmation bias and denial. (Not singling out any one company here, as I've seen several different fandoms engage in this.)

Extremely high demand for one day does not equal high demand across all days leading up to release. Deadpool 2 just set a record for R-rated movie ticket presales and it only turned in a slightly-underperforming $125M weekend, barely higher than the $123M opening of the overperforming IT: Chapter One.

Solo has ~5259 votes on Rotten Tomatoes...if you remove all the negative ones. And that's less than 3 days away from Thursday night previews.
Incredibles 2 has 4707 total votes and that's slightly less than a month away.
Jurassic World 2 has 16501 total and that's a month away.
    Ant-Man 2 has 10847 total votes and that's a month and a half away.
Deadpool 2 had 15090 total votes days before its opening.

Solo runs in German cinemas in a few minutes and I'm sitting at home for the first time ever for a Star Wars movie.

Looks like the advanced ticket projections were WAY off as now they are predicting a 105-115 million opening weekend box office gross.

They had counts on the advanced movie tickets sales. The 150-170 prediction was based on the idea the film works get good critical reviews which drives the general audience to films.

The reviews aren't bad, but they're mixed so that'll hurt the opening weekend. We'll see what the general audience reaction is soon.

Opening weekend is all about diehards like us who are there that first night and seeing it again on Saturday/Sunday/Monday and a section of the fanbase is boycotting this movie because of TLJ. It may not be fair to Solo because it’s a standalone film that has nothing to do with TLJ, but that’s the narrative right now that is driving these lower then expected numbers. Trust me, most people I know know among my friends and coworkers are not seeing this movie because of TLJ and franchise fatigue.

I actually expect this to do better on Bluray/Streaming release when fans can watch it as is without the taint of TLJ that still pervades many of them only 5 months later.

If that were true then TLJ wouldn't have beat it's opening weekend projection. The "backlash" narrative is that it hurt the overall box office.

Opening weekends are all about general audiences.

The only person I've met who didn't like TLJ saw Solo before I did.

-marketing ('is this a must-see event movie or not?' 'do I know any of these actors?' 'do these trailers/clips look any good?')
-popularity of the brand (public's awareness of Star Wars or the Han Solo character and desire to see a prequel with a recast)
-state of the brand (public's negative or positive feelings toward Star Wars as a whole and recent releases in addition to the Han Solo character)
-five months after the last release / fourth movie within a 2.5 year (29 months) window

The quality of Solo as a movie really won't speak for itself until we're past the weekend.

The Last Jedi as a movie wasn't responsible for its opening either.
