    I'm not sure Star Wars will ever be very successful in that market. A lot of the mystical stuff that plays well in the West is old hat for that market.

    Disagree...220 million for warcraft in china and that blast got magic.

    All we need to do is ditch the nostalgia branding...5 year break and use the marvel movies as a laugh pad for Asia.

    5 Old republic short films that are 6 to 4 minutes long should play in the end credits of the most popular marvel films there and on America to build anticipation for the old Republic.

    And when that is successful they should adapt a marvel model

    Old republic movie year 1
    Wraith squadron year 2
    Space pirate film year 3
    Rian johnson film year 4
    Old republic movie 2 year 5

    And continue this till the old Republic saga is done...and ditch the OT Era completely

    Think it's time to stop blaming the force and redirect the blame towards the dreadful nostalgia baiting of the past 3 movies.

    It's no coincidence that TFA did better in Asia than rogue one (nostalgia bait), last jedi(pretentious nostalgia bait), and solo (nostalgia bait electric Boogaloo).

    TFA does nostalgia better than those 3 movies.

    And to be frank stands on its own better than the other 3 movies as well.

    You just avoided my point about Warcraft and changed the subject. The idea that China is gonna magically start liking Star Wars because you want Old Republic films isn't convincing.

    It makes me wonder if KOTOR was even available in China when it first came out? Like you said, KOTOR isn't a selling point in China if they never played the games and I'm sure it would be more confusing to them seeing the same tech that is featured in the OT virtually unchanged from a movie that takes place 1000+ years earlier.

    Tale of the tape from Deadline:
    Seems pretty straight forward. Critics and the general audience don't like Solo as much as the last 3 films and there's better competition.

    For what it's worth The Last Jedi had a PostTrak "definite recommend" of 82%. Solo is kind of a curious test case of a film Star Wars fans will like more than the general audience.

    I can tell that you're kidding, but this is a terrible idea, and I love his work. Marvel is clearly his passion and that universe is going to get a lot bigger very, very soon once Disney's purchase of Fox is complete.

    Do people really want quippy Star Wars movies? Last I checked, one of the biggest criticisms of TLJ was for having "Marvel humor". Which is exactly what you'd get with him in charge.

    Honestly, the funny thing to me is that I don't think we'd be having this conversation in the first place if TLJ wasn't a contentious movie with the fans. People seem to forget that these movies have made well over a billion dollars in raw profit even if they take a bath on Solo. That wouldn't have happened without her leadership.
    It's honestly not great, but it's slightly better than expectations (which were around $33M). It would be decent if the movie had a $125M budget like they originally intended instead of a $250M one.
    "WHY DOESN'T LUCASFILM MAKE THE EXACT MOVIES THAT PANDER TO MY HEADCANON?"

    This is exactly what's wrong with this fandom right now.
    And yet Deadpool 2 dropped more harshly than expected.
    Another bad take.

    TFA was still considered an underperformer in China even with a $100M+ total, the majority of which came from the opening weekend. The thing was that it was marketed heavily over there... And the end result was that the Chinese were "meh" over the Star Wars IP as a whole. The government blocked the release of the OT during the Cultural Revolution, when it could have made a real impact on their popular culture. The PT did okay by the standards of Chinese movies before their box office actually mattered, but even still, Solo will surpass those grosses (which ought to tell you something).

    Also, it's convenient for you to say that TFA didn't revolve around "Nostalgia Bait" (whatever that means) and the others aren't. TLJ, if anything, was a rejection of nostalgia (a big part, to me, why there's a portion of the fandom who want Rian Johnson's head on a pike) while TFA celebrated it.

    When they provide a number like this its a combination of the Thursday Night Previews($14 mil, which was actually good) and Friday Box Office (~21 mil, which was just wtf).

    That's not even DC numbers. This might not even make the low-ball fall-on-you-face $800 mil 'expectations' for total run. Just yikes.

    As a comparison.. these are opening Friday's...

    For Marvel in just the past 6 months...

    IW's Friday was $106 mil.
    Black Panther's Friday was $75 mil.

    For DC...

    Batman v Superman was $81.5 mil.
    Suicide Squad's Friday was $64.8 mil.
    JUSTICE LEAGUE was $38.4 mil (Solo didn't even clear that bar lol).
    Wonder Woman's Friday was $38.2 mil.

    For Star Wars...

    TFA's Friday was $119 mil.
    TLJ's Friday was $104 mil.
    Rogue One's Friday was $71 mil.    ​

    $35 million for So Low... just staggeringly bad and prime evidence that TLJ, Rainy's Billion Dollar Boondoggle, has done a massive amount of harm to the brand that can't be easily fixed, if at all.

    Any of you guys want to further claim that hoho.. people will show up regardless of how bad the previous SW movies are or what they do to cherished characters? Sorry.. THAT IS JUST YOU. Btw... just got back from Deadpool 2.. it was ok. I've gone from one viewing of So Low to likely waiting for video. Maybe. I may just not watch it at all, tbh. I know for a fact that my sister and her family are taking a pass. They're watching DP2 and couldn't care less about Solo or Star Wars, which is a dramatic change, as usually they'd always catch that type of thing in the theater.

    This punch to the face is a long time coming for Disney. Hopefully they learn from the mistake and clean house rather than trying to further alienate fans trying to 'explain' what they did or how it wasn't TLJ's fault. Nobody is buying it.

    Destiny has arrived.
