Not just 3D, Avatar had a new level of graphics. Even today they can't beat it.

I'll say one of the big changes is the infrastructure supporting 3D and IMAX films. Avatar did most of it's business in those formats (as it rightfully should have, that's the only way to actually see it in my opinion), but there are a lot more theatres equipped for both formats six years later.

    Lo
Are any of you getting a cut??

When you are more excited about how rich people will get than the actual artistic results you have officially accepted your role as consumer.

    Hail Disney, hail JJ!

Make excuses, overlook issues, see the film 5 times

    Consume away....

Christmas Eve's drop was the 3rd highest the movie has experienced, on a per day percentage basis, about 28 percent. On that basis, the biggest percentage drop was "first" day to second, because first day included basically a day and a half.

Even with Christmas Eve and New Years Eve being bad for movies in general, TFA set records for both days.

I personally don't think it is helpful to evaluate drops/increases day to day, particularly if it is from Thursday to Friday (bumps up) or from Sunday to Monday (bumps down); it seems better to me to match fluctuations week to week per like day. I do understand why people do it though.

Could TFA reach 1 billion domestically?

I think it is going to give it a try. At this rte it might not make it, but it could get very damned close. Just amazing.

China will get the film to 2 billion.

The last 800 million to overtake Avatar will be the steepest hill to climb.

It'll have to have some long legs, and a lot of terrible January/February alternatives at the box office.

The good news is that Jan-Feb is usually a studio dumping ground of bad movies.

Star Wars set to pass Avatar at US Box Office:

    http://www.marketwatch.com/story/star-wars-set-to-pass-avatar-at-us-box-office-2016-01-03

I'm not at all ashamed to say I'm rooting for Disney to do well as I am indeed "getting a cut", as is nearly every adult who has a savings or retirement plan whether it is a pension, mutual fund or their own 401(k). It's not about rampant consumption, it's about having a thriving economy. And that means jobs for many people. Never in the history of mankind has world-wide poverty been at a such a low level, and it's we mindless consumers and capitalist pigs who are responsible for most of that, not that we'll get any thanks for it.

The slope on the line has hardly budged. It'll be interesting to see how it does when school starts up again. As I said a few pages back, TFA will easily pass Avatar domestically, and world-wide. It'd take some kind of black swan event to alter the course of the trend line now:

    http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/comparisons/All-Time-Top-Grossing-Films

Also, I'm curious about lag times. Does anyone know if there is a delay in reporting international figures?
