    Nearly $400 million was made in the United States in first week that this movie has been out. I think Disney will probably get around to planning another trilogy sometime soon...

    China and Disney have been sitting in a tree since Iron Man 3 at the very latest. Their franchise films do amazing over there.

    The PT were shown theatrically back in the day, and the OT were screened fairly recently in preparation for TFA.

    TFA smashes another record for Christmas day.... $49 million!

    As of Friday it is at $813million global so I think another $100 million or at least $90 million to crack another record of $1 billion in 9-10 days.

    This will hit $2 billion and become the first movie in history to crack $2 billion.

    And yeah china should do another $500 million.

    By comparison, The Force Awakens now stands 35 percent ahead of Jurassic World at the same point in its release, and a whopping 175 percent ahead of Avatar.

    Although the 79 percent Friday increase from Thursday wasn't quite as strong as Avatar's 107 percent on Christmas Day six years ago (which also fell on a Friday), the trends overall continue to generally line up close enough that a similar weekend multiplier could play out. We're projecting The Force Awakens will take in a sophomore weekend gross of $161 million -- blowing far past Jurassic World's second weekend record of $106.6 million, and even falling line with the actual opening weekends of mega blockbusters like The Dark Knight Rises ($160.9 million), The Dark Knight ($158.4 million), and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($158.1 million).


    Avatar was an animal..........it came at an interesting time in cinema

    It was cutting edge and the Star Wars RELEASE of this generation.

    I am saying that as far as Special Effects in 2009 was NEW and cutting edge like STAR WARS was in 1977

    So, TFA made $391M domestically in its first week. Assuming it has a 50% decrease each week ($195M in Week 2, $98M in Week 3, etc.), it will end up with approximately $782M, which would make the movie the highest grossing movie domestically. Avatar's domestic box office was $749M.

    The most recent estimate states that as far as the United States goes, the movie will make anything from $850 million to $1 billion.

    Those estimates appear to assume that TFA would be a more similar to Titanic and Avatar, which were slow starters but kept on going. It seems more reasonable to me to assume that TFA will be similar to summer blockbusters, such as Avengers and Jurassic World, which tend to be have a large opening weekend and then have a steady decrease.

    Friday: $49.3M
    Saturday: $56.7M

    The numbers are undoubtedly impressive but they should perhaps be adjusted slightly down.
