I don't wanna read too much into every word Daisy says because she's said before that it's weird that people take every little thing she does/says as some possible clue, but it is interesting that she said "her parents left her at 5". I was recently sort of speculating under the assumption she could have never met her father. Now I'm back to thinking she's not Luke's daughter, after being sort of convinced yesterday that she could be, I hate this flip-floping! I wanna know already :(

It could as well be his light side saber as Ben, or he could be searching the dead bodies for Luke's saber... But why everyone is assuming that this so called "massacre" has to take place in a Jedi Temple? They could fight anywhere... And I don't know if it is confirmed that these are actually the Knights of Ren, they could be clan members associated to the FO and one of them tries to kill little Rey but Kylo Ren saves her for some (obvious or not) reason...

I got that notion too. It seemed to be the glory shot of the bad guys she will be facing off against.

    The following has been said:
The events of Bloodline take place 5~6 years before The Force Awakens.
Leia is a New Republic Senator.
There's cute Han & Leia moments in the book.

Others could potentially be true or inferred:
The Resistance doesn't exist yet? (because it's peacetime and Leia is a Senator)
Her son Ben hasn't betrayed Luke and the new Jedi Order yet? (because if Han and Leia are still together.)
Luke hasn't gone missing yet? (because Ben hasn't gone rogue.)

There are a couple of lines in the article and in the excerpt, though, that makes me think that - at that point in the novel, at least - her family's already broken up.

    In the article:
Leia (played by Carrie Fisher in the movies) is professionally [emphasis added] at a good place, as a senator and leader in a peaceful New Republic decades after the fall of Vader and the Emperor's stranglehold on the galaxy.

    In the excerpt:
In other words, Leia thought as she listened to someone cheerfully talk about his grandchildren, this is going wonderfully for everyone but me [emphasis added]

... so I'm guessing that the First Order hasn't risen as a credible threat at that point, and her professional life is going well, but her personal life has already fallen or has at least started to fall apart.

Now I want to read the book for real. Lol. I noticed that but maybe it is reading too much into the lines. Regarding the excerpt, maybe she is referring to her premonition or the weird feeling she had at that moment. We shall see.

adding SPOILER tag to this thread. We have had discussions about events rather than just timeline stuff. This could spoil people that haven't read the book or other media.
    Thanks

@Master Padawan @PrincessLeiaCB3 : we've talked a lot in other threads about Leia knowing Snoke's got his claws in Ben from the start. even if Ben is off allegedly with Luke (as far as she knows), then things already aren't going wonderfully. it could be that they just haven't imploded yet.

You are correct. It is mentioned in the TFA novelization. And also if she from the beginning of the New Republic was not that happy of having remnants of the Empire who-knows-where waiting to rise as the First Order, her FS could have been bugging her at all times.

Yes, of course. I got the impression from the movie that Ben was a lot younger than 25 when he turned, but who knows! Maybe she just got off the phone with Luke in that chapter, and it went something like this...

LUKE: "You know how you sent your son to train with me some years back? Well, he just force chocked a fox that got into the Jedi Academy Barn today, and when I chided him he went ballistic and destroyed the entire hen house, slaughtering all the chickens."

    LEIA: "Oh, my god..."

LUKE:"So I asked Dad, you know he's a force ghost now, I asked him if he ever did anything like that...and he said something like that happened when grandma died with the Tusken Raiders."

    LEIA: "Not a good sign."

LUKE:"No, and mind you, no one had died, expect the fox, which he killed, and all I said to him was you don't force choke little animals when you can use the Jedi Mind Trick and go 'these aren't the hens you're looking for' "

LEIA: "He doesn't like the Jedi Mind Trick. Hates the fact that it never worked on Han."

LUKE: "Yeah, well, anyway I'm not letting him near Dad's old mask anymore. I kept showing it to him and saying if you go over to the Darkside, that's how you're gonna end up, but now he just kinda grins when I do it, so yeah, your son's training is going great, Sis. This is bad karma you got when you kissed me."

    LEIA: "Well you kissed back!"

LUKE:"I didn't know, and I was still woozy from my dip in the tank. You knew - you said you always knew."

    LEIA:"It's a figure of speech."

LUKE:"It's your son that's crazy, and that proves you were in the wrong -"

LEIA:"Well now he's your apprentice Mr. Grand Master Jedi and you better use all your mind tricks to fix him up good or I'm coming after you, and you know I have a map of the entire galaxy expect that little part where the 1st Jedi Temple is."

    LUKE: "...."

    LEIA:" ... Luke?"

LUKE:"Er, nothing, just making a contingency plan - I mean, nevermind, talk you later Sis, I'm smelling smoke coming from the Academy building. See ya!"

    *hangs up*

( It is later revealed that Snoke led the fox into the hen house ).

With regard to Rey, one theory is that she had her mind Jedi-wiped. Why can't her Force-vision in TFA similarly contain memories that were planted there, but not necessarily real? For instance, maybe her vision of her abandonment on Jakku is misleading her... she thinks she was 5-8 (and miscalculated the scratches on her AT-AT walls) but she was actually older. That can help explain her advanced Force powers if she had been trained for longer than we believe (if at all).

Anyway, my point is that maybe NOTHING is as it seems... isn't that always the case in Star Wars?

Claudia Gray said on twitter and her blog that she was unspoiled for TFA and Bloodline was written before she saw it. That makes me think that Bloodline takes place before the Jedi Massacre, since she'd have to be completely spoiled on the state of the galaxy in TFA to be able to write Bloodline if it took place after. She also said in her blog that it "broke her heart" to see what happened to Han and Leia's relationship in TFA, which makes it sound like she didn't know they were going to be separated. So my guess is that the First Order is just starting to gain some traction, Leia is still a Senator, Han and Leia are still together, and Ben hasn't turned yet, but Leia is growing worried about him. Maybe the last scene will be Leia feeling a disturbance in the Force (like what Obi-Wan felt when Alderaan exploded) and the reader knows what's coming. Ben going Dark at 23-24 actually makes some sense since that's around the age Anakin went Dark and it wouldn't really be believable for a teenager to be able to kill the entire Jedi Academy.

But teenagers have raging hormones! they're dangerous, I tell you! :D

Anyway, interesting... what I'd like to know is whether Ben at 23/24 is with Luke already or just about to be sent there... because the movie made it sound like Ben going away was the beginning of the end of Han and Leia's marriage. ( "That's when I lost him - when I lost you both!" ).

So maybe it ends a bit earlier, with her sending him away to train with uncle Luke!

If he's already 24, though, no way Luke should feel responsible. That's already a man you got there, not much you can do except talk to him about how grandpa wouldn't want him to follow in his footsteps! I'm sticking to my barn yard scenario until forced to acknowledge otherwise!

Well iirc she said she was unspoiled "as possible" and there were things she did actually need to know in advance in order to write the book. Hell if she's actually gonna cover the Jedi massacre at all in the book then she'd definitely need to have known that spoiler beforehand. I don't think she was blindsided by Han and Leia's estranged marriage in TFA either I think she was just remarking on how sad it made her to see them only coming together briefly before he died.

yeah, i'm having a hard time believing they could send him anywhere at that stage ~ and that he wasn't already so thoroughly corrupted by then. i know early twenties these days is still considered young (many 20 year-olds live at home), but in the world of Star Wars, it feels like the age of majority is still late-teens.

    a couple of assumptions:

    1. just because Leia "lost" Han when she sent Ben away doesn't mean that began their estrangement. she could just be saying that's when the family fell apart emotionally. they might have sent Ben away much younger and it could have taken Han years to physically leave. He and Leia might have become physically estranged after Ben's actual betrayal much later.

    2. we still don't know 100% that a.) Ben was the cause of the destruction of Luke's efforts to raise new Jedi (we can extrapolate, but there's still a chance he wasn't the one); and b.) that anyone was killed in this "destruction". the word conjures Anakin's heinous killing of the padawans (and is probably deliberately done so), but there is no source anywhere that says Luke even had other pupils beside Ben [edit: oops, i forgot is does say this in the VD], that an "academy" or school even existed (hidalgo has repeatedly told people NOT to use this word as it's inaccurate). nowhere does it say any students were actually killed or that Ben did any killing. "destroyed" can have a lot of different connotations.

the conclusions people are drawing may be logical based on the clues we're given, but they are pure speculation right now.

i was hoping this book might give us some clues, but it's unclear whether Gray had sufficient intell to provide further detail on this particular matter.

They've said in the others materials that Kylo Ren / Ben was the one to kill his fellow students.

thank you! but this is the first and only source i've ever seen that outright says it. the site appears to be affiliated with Disney, so maybe this is legit?

i forgot about the reference to other students in the VD ~ thanks for reminding me. "destruction" still is a term with a number of connotations.

this information is just very very not specifically stated in any other source. not that some part of me doesn't think it's true myself (again, it's a logical conclusion). the vagueness with which it's been treated has just always given me pause.

"Jedi Killer" whispered in the ranks means nothing concrete. he is tasked with killing Jedi (Luke) so that doesn't necessarily support anything.

A product of both Jedi and Sith teachings?

    #Plagueisconfirmed!

    ;)

ps, on the other hand, my link to the databank has a different blurb about Kylo. It doesn't mentiom him being the product of "both sides". It says this instead:

A dark warrior strong with the Force, Kylo Ren commands First Order missions with a temper as fiery as his unconventional lightsaber. As a leader of the First Order and a student of Supreme Leader Snoke, he seeks to destroy the New Republic, the Resistance and the legacy of the Jedi.

Well, the VD makes it clear Han didn't leave until after the massacre. It says he was husband to a New Republic Politician and family man until a "profound tragedy" upended his life. The profound tragedy is most likely the Jedi Massacre and doesn't fit an argument over Ben going away to train. And it sounds like they're still together in Bloodlines, which is several years after Leia sent Ben away to train. I think Ben must have been sent away in his teens, because as an adult his mom wouldn't be able to "send " him somewhere. But I do think Leia sees sending Ben away as the beginning of the end, which is why she made that comment.

I think this book will cover Leia's fears and worries over her son going dark and end with her feeling the massacre through the Force. I don't think the book will show the massacre and go into detail about it, because they will want to wait until Episode VIII for the details of it I think.

If Kylo turned at 23/24, then I really wonder what Snoke promised him to get him to turn. He would have been a fully grown adult by then and grown up with the Jedi Padawans that he killed. What could cause him to decide to betray them like that?
