SNOKE: Ben... I've got this really cool mask for you. It's like Vader's, but it's not, and it changes your voice when you put it on... c'mon, you know you want it... there's just one little thing I want in return ... :D

Jen Heddle has confirmed the Han/Leia scenes in Bloodline are NOT in flashback . So it looks like the Massacre happened in the last 5-6 years. My bet is that it happens in this book.

Obi-Wan: "Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." So you might be correct.

I guess that is reading too much into lines. What she might have meant was that by sending their son away, she caused what happened later.

that's how i track that line. not that everything fell apart the minute she sent Ben away, but that by sending him away everything began to erode.

it makes sense if there was concern about Ben and Leia shipped him off to Luke that what would necessarily follow is a lot of doubt and recrimination (did we do the right thing? do you blame me? do i blame you? are we a failure as parents? does Ben think we don't love him?) etc....

enough to drive a few dozen wedges between any husband and wife.

I think we are going to find out that Luke kicked there butts and spared Kylos life. Now Kylo thinks he is strong enough to face him again. I think we all know that Luke is going to be portrayed as the strongest Jedi ever, even past Yoda as this story unfolds so good luck to Kylo... he is gonna need it. Especially when Luke taps into the dark side and shows him the true nature of the force... ala Vader style. You want Vader Kylo, I'll show you Vader. Yep, it's gonna go down. Don't talk about my daddy like you knew him.

Agree. And we know they - the princess and the scoundrel - would love to argue lol.

Aside of it, we don't know yet a lot about the new Jedi Academy. Was it following the same Jedi code as we knew from the old Republic times? The one keeping the younglings and padawans away from their families and avoiding any attachments? We could infer from what the excerpt mentions about the other people motivations and worries (for example, grandchildren) that Leia would not think about that being her son a Jedi but, this is mere speculation since we don't know anything yet.

i'm having a hard time imagining Luke running things in such a way, but at the same time it might have made sense for Luke to try to isolate Ben to break whatever perceived negative influence he was under ~ perhaps not even realizing it was Snoke. in fact, if Leia kept this information from Han, she might not have told Luke either?

geh ~ that's a depressing thought. if that was the case, no wonder the kid is so screwed up. hahaha

I know. And I'm having a bad feeling by all this that she might have not come to terms with her being Vader's daughter. Pity. Hope not because I reckon it would be nice to see her FS to show up at a certain extent.

i kinda of just don't even want to know. so long as nothing is ever written down and consigned to canon, you can kind of wibble about it in your own imagination.

This will twist a lot of people's head canon because a lot of people assumed that Rey was dropped off on Jakku at the time of the Jedi Massacre. If Kylo has only recently turned though, I think his chances of redemption are better.

I wonder if the Jedi Massacre will be the "significant event" Claudia refers to in the book. I imagine they will leave some details out, because they will want to leave it for the films to reveal, but maybe it will be vague like Leia feels a disturbance in the Force and then the book ends.

I think this book may eliminate the possibility of Rey Solo. Obviously, they're not going to reveal her parentage in a book and Claudia Gray has tweeted that she doesn't know who Rey's parents are, so it'd be very weird for Leia to have an entire POV book and never reference a daughter who went missing when she was 5.

I'll change my mind if there is a vague reference in Leia's thoughts to a tragedy that occurred around the time Rey was dropped off on Jakku, but if an entire book goes by from Leia's POV without any mention of a missing/dead daughter, I feel like Rey Solo becomes very unlikely.

I feel that "Rey Solo" is very unlikely (but not impossible) because TFA a would have shown SOMETHING CONCRETE that would been obvious such as The "Rey Skywalker" theories .

What I read into it is that that's when the rift in their marriage began to form. Like Maybe Han wasn't so keen on sending him away or something.

Anyhow, since the book will be out soon, I'm not really losing much sleep over this. ;)

I'm also not getting my hopes up on getting a big reveal other than perhaps the number of years Luke's been gone. They're gonna save all the important stuff for the movies (as they should), so I'm pretty sure most of the stuff in the book is gonna be inconsequential to the bigger picture.

It's called Bloodline, so maybe it's just about people finding out Leia's parentage, which kills her career... Nooooo! (dark)

Yep, that's what I got about that. Maybe Han was still against his son to go into a hokey religion and wanted him to be a pilot.

Exactly! And obviously we should not put too much weight onto what the writer is saying... she might be following an agenda of "do not give out too much stuff" for all we know.
    --- Double Post Merged, Feb 11, 2016 ---
Ouch, that would be a good one. At the end of the day, it was Mr. Darth freaking Vader!!! The right arm of the Emperor Palpatine and one of the greatest and most powerful Sith out there.

Some Senator: Senator Organa, your father killed mine! I demand compensation!
Leia : He killed lots of fathers - you'll have to be more specific. ;)

That was a theory I heard the other day from a friend. The event that the summary was alluding to about something that affects multiple characters or something. Leia being "outed" as the daughter of Darth Vader and her position in the New Republic being undermined would count. I think that'd be more likely than this book actually covering the Jedi betrayal/massacre.

You may have seen various years floating around for the time gap between Episode VI and VII. Here's why:

What if the same thing happened to Luke earlier in the story, with his own daughter? And he beats himself up about that?

I could imagine a scenario now in which a reluctant Luke agreed to sending his own daughter away to safety before Ben's betrayal and this act subsequently weakened him as a Jedi Master [considering that Rey's evacuation ended in cluster****] - making Ben's betrayal possible in the first place. This would allow some flexibility with the timeline, and the idea of Luke feeling responsible for the acts of an adult apprentice would make more sense.
