Yeah all he did was betray his family destroying the happy family of the beloved Han and Leia romance, kill or turn a dozen of Luke's students, murder his father in cold blood to prove he could, reject redemption and take over the galaxy by killing the supposed Supreme Leader.

    What a scrub.

    What a scrub indeed.

If we were to compare Kylo to Snoke, Snoke really didn't do anything other than being called Supreme Leader and giving Hux permission to use Starkiller. Kylo has been more in the forefront as the main antagonist.

I think it was exactly the kind of death it was needed for such a "powerful" villain as they wanted us to believe Snoke was.. The surprise factor for Snoke and for us was necessary to believe he couldve been defeated.
If they bring him back it would be like: no dudes, Snoke is way more powerful than that... And if an unexpected move like Kylo's is not enough, then I don't know what else can they do.. They would need like a "Phoenix" version of their own xD
And I like those ying and yang references, but unless Kylo and Rey can actually fuse together.. I won't believe it xD :p

Why bother bringing back Snoke? So that they can overturn Kylo Ren becoming the Supreme Leader . . . and give him an opportunity at redemption? To shut up those who criticized Snoke's death? Both?

Snoke....a guy who had so much potential but wound up being a big old nothing burger.

But y'know....why bring back ANY of these new characters? It's not just Snoke that's a problem, with the exception of Kylo, they ALL suck.

To get things back on track, and stop the bleeding, Disney needs to disavow the sequel trilogy Mission Impossible style, and pretend it never happened, then go in a completely different direction.

A film about the rise of the rise of the Sith Empire directed by Christopher Nolan (yeah, I went there) would be a great new beginning and would go a long way towards righting the ship and getting the bad taste of the sequel trilogy out of fans mouths.

Wishing to see Snoke again in IX. Maybe a flashback or an event narraded by Kylo Ren. More time on screen possible. All in red this time. Just a wish.

If he comes back, well that shows how powerful Snoke is BUT if he doesn't , then Kylo remains as a very powerful lord. But honestly bringing back Snoke might just gives us another movie after episode 9 , bcs u can't possibly cramp everything from Snoke's resurrection til wherever the movie would take us. SO YAY right ? And besides, for a supreme leader... he cant be that weak.. cmon... he cant be.. thats so cheap right ;?

Snoke needs some exposition. Right now, in the current state of the (uncompleted) story, he's just a strawman. The only significant thing he has done that served a major purpose to the current story is he linked Kylo and Rey's minds.... yet, even that feat is something that could have been written into the script without him (for example, Kylo could easily have been self-teaching himself dark side powers and found a way to reach out to Rey).

From a storytelling perspective, the problem with Snoke's current lack of exposition is that any old First Order General could have taken his place. So far, he has been mostly unnecessary to the larger story being told. Ben being tempted to the dark side, the mind link, creation of SKB -- the things Snoke has been involved in so far -- each could easily have come about without Snoke as we know him now.

My prediction is that Snoke is more than a strawman and we'll be getting a good deal more significant information about him that is relevant to the overall ST story in IX.

I think he is more than a 'strawman' aslo and we will get more on Snoke. Maybe some in IX but considering the ST wasn't about him (plus we have be reminded we didn't get much on Palpatine in the OT) will probably get more on him in a novel or two. If his story on screen has wrapped, there is no reason they can't start filling in his back story in the EU. I'd guess they will probably fill in more about Luke between the ST and OT also. He may have to wait until after IX.

Snoke's dead and he's not coming back as a ghost, at least not in Episode IX and probably not ever. There is absolutely no relevance to his character any more. There are a million unanswered questions about him, but they all have to do with the backstory to TFA, not the next episode, and so their place is in the EU. Episode IX has a lot to wrap up, and there just isn't any reason to bring him into it--Kylo Ren is supreme leader, and that is the true drama of the finale, not the ghost of Snoke coming back to...do what? Usurp the throne as a ghost? Kill Kylo Ren? Can Force ghosts even do that? And isn't it canon that only Jedi can become Force ghosts? It just wouldn't work. The final confrontation of Rey and Ben and what happens to "Keylo" is so emotionally charged, I can't wait to see what they do with them, and the worst possible way to screw that up is to introduce some ridiculous Snoke ghost in the mix...like who the hell cares? We all want to find out more about him, but why would want him to come back (presumably just to be killed again)? The EU writers are going to have fun exploring his character, who he is, where he came from, how he seduced Ben, and all that great stuff, and I have a feeling any Star Wars fan that wants to know more about Snoke are going to enjoy reading all of that. But in terms of this trilogy, his purpose was served when Kylo Ren killed him, and you can't really undo that in a way that still serves a meaningful and satisfying dramatic purpose. If it bothers anyone that he was eliminated from the story very early I unfortunately don't see how he could be brought back in a way that still satisfied the story path Episode IX is now on without seeming forced and shoehorned in. It would make the film and the character both worse.

This could be true, but i could argue that with his power came cockiness and that kind of blinded him into believing no one would dare cross him, especially not his apprentice.
I do agree that we are missing something and it will be revealed in ep IX.

it's a convo for another thread.. but i don't think it was possible for his apprentice to kill him. "Only a fully trained Jedi Knight, with the Force as his ally" could stay calm in that throne room and take out Snoke in that manner.
it's the lack of Snoke information that's causing the uncertainty and suspicion.

unless ep9 shows us a huge flashback of Snoke recruiting Ben... something isn't finished there. there's more to come from Snoke somehow, even if it's from the past.

You might be right, but Darth Sidious was also killed by his apprentice, just like a lot of other sith masters.

That's at least a part of it, yes, but i would want some more information about Luke,Leia and Han as well. Some, if not all, will most likely be told in another medium be it games, novels or something else.
It's been a long time since i saw TFA and TLJ and only saw them once but i feel like i need some explanation about how they got from RotJ to TFA. They were celebrating without a care in the world in the end of RotJ and TFA begins with everything gotten blasted up somehow.

lol that's also for another thread.. did the apprentice kill Sidious? or had Anakin emerged already under the legendary mask? I'd dearly love to know what was going through Anakin's mind during that whole encounter.

my point is that i don't believe that an apprentice can kill his dark side master, unless his power has grown beyond that of his master.. or the apprentice turns to the light side of the force. I think Ben is THAT unique, that he used the light side of the force to defeat Snoke (if he is defeated lol) in the throne room.

I think the real reason why my gut tells me that somehow we're not finished with Snoke, is that this guy took what we believed was a grandstand happy ending at the end of ROTJ and threw it down the proverbial garbage shoot. he literally ripped our iconic heroes apart... and we didn't see any of it. Now he is apparently dead.. many feel robbed of answers.

I still think those answers are coming, but i don't have a clue how.. and books aren't enough.

well, it was probably anakin at that point since he was saving luke and that's not really dark side motivated. Either way, doesn't matter, Sidious was still the master and anakin/vader was the apprentice and in my mind weaker than Sidious. How both Kylo ren and Anakin kills their masters kind of shows that they aren't really stronger than their masters, neither really fights man-to-man straight up.
My point is this, strength has nothing to do with the situation, both Sidious and Snoke got caught with their pants down.

I am also one of the many who feel robbed of answers and i too hope for some revelations but i think we won't be getting the answers in EPIX. Hopefully someone else will do Disney's job and tell us the backstory and flesh it all out.

a minor edit, didn't notice you mentioning the books. There's always the possibility of a animated serie like AotC (i didn't really watch it, don't even know the name)

i'm okay with finding out what happened between Snoke and Ben in the books.
i think for the purpose of the movie, we know enough: Snoke lay in wait, seduced Ben, raised an army, and then lost it all.
because his "apprentice" cannot/will not be controlled, because the FO and Snoke were a mutually blood-sucking relationship, and because Snoke thought it would be that easy to dominate the will of rageful people. he surrounded himself with angry curs and he got bit.

    and good riddance ~ hahahaha

i know what you're saying.. i just feel like there is a piece missing.

I was sat there in the theater literally saying to myself "wooaah! look what this guy can do!!!" as he used the force to zap/throw Kylo back and then later toy with Rey in the throne room and admit to building a bridge between Rey and Kylo's mind. then he was gone.. just like that.

there's something missing here FN !!! and it's bugging the pants off me lol :D

oh don't get me wrong, what he did to the Solo's... i'd happily put what's left of him in a mincer to be sure he's gone !

and i sat in the theatre cheering wildly when he took his medicine. all 7 times. XD

i totally get it, though: people do want to know more. i personally don't because i don't want to watch him being disgusting with Ben.
zapping him and making fun of him was hard enough. and that look on Ben's face after he and Rey defeat the guards and he's standing at the throne, staring at what he's done: that's enough. the shocky way he then tries to take control immediately after, to me, tells the whole story.

exactly! my one great regrets is that Hux didn't punt his head just to verify he was dead ~ hahahahaha

you already know that i'm with you there. it was horrible enough when we saw Sheev leeching over young Anakin when he said "And you, young Skywalker; we shall watch your career with great interest."

the thought of seeing Snoke prey on young Ben and/or influencing Leia while she was pregnant? no.. no thanks.

I feel like the story with Snoke, Luke, Rey and Ben was leading somewhere.... else. I don't know where it was leading lol... but i have that weird uncomfortable feeling like when you're looking for something and you know it's right in front of you.

well here's a possible middle ground: Snoke did come from somewhere ~ and his resources got the FO off the ground.
out there in the galaxy Snoke surely must have more minions, more connections, more support perhaps?

i'm not really interested in seeing a new threat introduced in IX, but we may yet get more info on how the FO is supported (or not any longer!) by this extraneous power. and that could turn the tide of things in a big way.
