SPECULATION Ben is Luke's son

    Thats right, I said it, come on...........

    Extremely unlikely, but lets jump down the rabit hole for a second.

    So the story would go something like - Luke gets married and the happy couple have a son, unfortunately Lukes wife dies in child birth (but you know, for actual reasons). Luke doesn't believe he can raise his son on his own and lead the Jedi, so he gives his son to his sister (who can't have children but has always wanted one) to raise and Han gets killed.

    The evidence/arguments (and I use that term lightly here)

    1) His name. Leia didn't know Obi-wan and Han had no connection to him. Naming the boy after him is certainly something much more believable for Luke then Leia and Han.

    2) "But Leia told Han he is his father". With this new dynamic that scene takes on a different meaning. Han is saying that Ben's real father couldn't reach him, and Leia is reminding him that while Luke is his biologial father Han is the man who raised him.

    3) The school killings. We know that Ben destroyed Lukes Jedi school and killed all the students. There has been a question, why didn't Luke stop him? The common answer has been that Luke wasn't there. But given that Snoke and Kylo see Luke as a threat, does it make sense to attack when he isn't there? Wouldn't they want to attack the school at time when their #1 target is there? What if Luke was there did attempt to stop Kylo, but couldn't bring himself to kill his own son (just like he could kill his own father), so he escape's and goes into hiding rather then seeking a confrontation he knows he can't win/isn't willing to have.

    4) It would be one hell of a surprise reveal

    5) This would make his real name Ben Skywalker - a character who can push the Skywalker story forward into future films.

    There you have it. A totally air-tight case for Ben Solo really being Lukes son.

    There is a novel where Leia is pregnant with Ben, so I hope not.

    They went to great lengths to convince Ben he was her son. Including doctoring photo's and old videos of her.

    It wasnt videos or photos, it takes place when she is pregnant. There is a entire scene where she is alone and thinking about the connection she feels towards her unborn son through the force.

    If this was possible, I would like it... but I think it is doubtful for all the reasons listed by others:

    Yuck.

    @Canadian Ronin did say Leia has always wanted children but can't have any... what if her pregnancy described in the novels wasn't actually the pregnancy involving Ben, but instead ended as a miscarriage? Just food for thought...

    There you go! Sell it!

    Funny, I did think of this as well. I also had to weigh in on the what is said in novels about Leia's pregnancy, though.
    Would be an interesting twist!! More conflict between Luke and Rey. I remember a little while back in the spring/summer someone had asked PH flat out or said (and I"m paraphrasing) "a) Luke is Ben's son.. b) that's why he's desperately trying to find him" PH's response " Third Option- Let's what and see." He didn't deny it, but he would be just fueling speculation.

    Honestly, I think there's a low chance of this happening, but it's definitely an interesting twist.

    While interesting at first, this will never happen. Incest is a thing people try very hard to avoid and when two closely related people fall in love, even have sex and find out that they are siblings, they usually end up in some kind of trauma, especially if the result of such a relationship is a child. While I hope that blockbusters don't shy away from tough issues, this is way too much. Besides, could you imagine contrversy surrounding Episode VIII if this was to be the case? Lucasfilm and Rian Johnson would be torn to pieces by many film-goers and media. To this day people find Luke and Leia's kiss weird, even if back then even Lucas wasn't sure about the identity of the second Skywalker junior.

    I don't think the OP was suggesting the incestual relationship between Luke and Leia, rather that Leia could have adopted Luke's child after the biological mother was lost during childbirth...

    Wait a minute, there is something very interesting in this Aftermath excerpt:

    This excerpt suggests the "loss of Luke" before Kylo Ren (or this child she is carrying) is even born! How exactly was Luke "lost"? Did he lose something? I haven't read the book (obviously) so if someone knows, does the book reference what "loss of Luke" that Leia is thinking here?

    IIRC, Luke leaves to parts unknown before Leia feels she really has mastered learning how to meditate in the Force. Leia feels his leaving is her loss.

    There are passages too where meeting the "Old Man" had some kind of meaning to Han a few times in new canon materials. It's not far fetched his name is Ben. It was how they all met and came together. I am holding out his middle name is Chewbacca though.

    Unless Woody's character is also named Ben, Han and Leia stole Lukes name - like when Susans cousin stole the name seven.

    Ben also means "son of the right hand' which TPTB may have known as well meaning descendant of Vader, the Emperor's right hand. They have suggested a reason for it. Rey can be King or a different way to say ray or light. Luke also may have been around at that time to suggest calling him that.
