    That's just brand recognition though. For example, I'd be able to tell a certain font is the Twilight font if someone showed it to me, but it doesn't mean I'm interested in watching the Twilight films.

    The hype for TLJ is higher than TFA in my estimation.....believe that TFA got a whole new generation into SW and that coupled with the anticipation and trailer discussions will drive TLJ to the #1 SW box office (so far....). Plus I think the movie will have great legs because I think....I hope.....it will be awesome!

    Domestic opening weekend: $260.0 million
    Worldwide opening weekend: $570.0 million

    Total
    Domestic total: $1.1 billion
    International total: $1.2 billion
    Worldwide total: $2.3 billion (by the way.....$2.3B will push the entire SW lifetime movie franchise box office over $10B)

    I don't think that this is topping TFA, domestically or abroad. However, I do think it's likely that it will top $600M or $700M domestically.

    Speaking to USA Today, Jeff Bock, senior box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations predicts that the film will open with $215 - $220 million opening weekend, due to this being Carrie Fisher’s final role; he also said that the film probably wouldn’t cross the $200 million mark on opening weekend otherwise.

    “What’s making the The Last Jedi special is that this is the final role for Carrie Fisher. People will want to tip their hats. There will be a Princess Leia bump for The Last Jedi.”

    Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore, agrees, saying that fans wanting to see Fisher’s final portrayal of Leia cannot be overstated. He also said that the major role of Luke Skywalker in this film, compared to the glimpse of him that we got at the end of The Force Awakens, will also be key.

    “Furious 7 shows the power of that final, bittersweet appearance of a beloved star, which we will see again in The Last Jedi. Giving Rian Johnson the reins for more movies tells me that The Last Jedi is a great movie. Things are going to hit a fever pitch real soon.”

    My final prediction is barely any different from my first, but I’m going to tweak some things very slightly (but watch my first prediction now be the closer one! :p), because I have a very good feeling about this film a week out.

    One week from release
    Opening Weekend
    Domestic opening weekend: $225 million
    International opening weekend: $250 million
    Worldwide opening weekend: $475 million

    Total
    Domestic total: $825 million
    International total: $925 million
    Worldwide total: $1.75 billion

    If these predictions were to come true, then The Last Jedi would have:
    • the 2nd highest domestic opening weekend.
    • the 5th highest international opening weekend.
    • the 5th highest worldwide opening weekend.
    • the 2nd largest domestic total.
    • the 9th largest international total.
    • the 3rd largest initial run worldwide total, and the 4th largest all-time worldwide total (not adjusting for inflation).

    Not only that, but that would mean that between TFA, RO and TLJ, Disney would be averaging a worldwide intake of ~$1.6 billion at the box office. It would be the second highest grossing Star Wars movie. This would also move Star Wars into the spot of second most lucrative franchise at the worldwide box office (not adjusting for inflation), as it currently sits ~$900 million below Harry Potter, but there’s no chance that the franchise will be catching the top dog, the MCU, anytime soon (nor should it try to) if Lucasfilm stick to the plan of one film release per year.

    Best case scenario: $230 million domestic opening weekend, $450-$470 million worldwide. Worldwide total: 1.9-2B

    Agreed with all of your predictions! I think the sweet spot is $1.7 billion worldwide, I am putting my lowest at $1.3 billion worldwide while my highest is of course over $2 billion worldwide. I am hoping for an official forecast running up in a few days time, probably after the premiere.
