Bride of Palpatine

I can see three possibilities for Rey's grandmother:
1. Rape (as you said)
2. Somebody who was power hungry and latched onto Palpatine (I'm picturing someone like that bald woman in the prequels, Sly Moore, who was always at his side.) It wouldn't be a loving relationship at all, but rather an expedient one.
3. No grandmother at all, but rather just Palpatine's experimentation with manipulating the midichlorians.

What I find funny is when people say that Palpatine having a kid must mean that Palpatine went on dates and romanced somebody. Somehow, I seriously doubt that's what happened.

 

The only "clue" for his bride's identity I can think of, comes from backtracking.

Palpatine apparently found the way to transfer "his essence / soul", which in turn means that he needed a powerful Force host to conduct the ritual. I don't think clones have such potential nor could he wait until a powerful enough student to come along. Also, he doesn't try to get Kylo to kill him, which implies that either Kylo isn't as strong as Rey, or that for the ritual to take place, some specific (lineage) relationship must exist.

So he wanted (and had) children. In this sense, he would have wanted a powerful in the Force bride to "maximize" the probability of getting a suitable host. His network provided one, and beyond that everything goes. I think he was more than capable of seducing a Force sensitive bride, but then again who knows.

 

There have been countless examples throughout history of people (mostly women, admittedly) seeking out tyrants, criminals, and dictators and pursuing relationships with said individuals, so nothing about Palpatine having fathered a child is in any way strange.

Palpatine having progeny is also not an idea that is in any way foreign to Star Wars because it has its roots in the Legends EU.

 

To the kind of person who would seek out someone like Palpatine, physical appearance is irrelevant, because they're not looking for physical attractiveness; they're looking for personal validation.

Palpatine is very much the kind of person who would gleefully use another person's need for validation as a means to an end, so it makes a lot of sense that he may have encouraged a relationship with someone out of a desire to further his own goals.

 

My guess would be it all went something like this:

 

I suspect that Palpatine likely impregnated a concubine of some type.

 

It really doesn’t have to be rape or “power daters.” Women can be evil just like men. I can see a post-Mace Windu Sheev hooking up with the apple lady from “Snow White” DON’T JUDGE LOVE GUYS!!!
@Adam812 totally agree about the Rey Palps reveal, I think it could have worked better if she was a Palps clone.

Yo.... Sarah Michelle Gellar could totally rey that palpatine.

 

I thought it was interesting they cast Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) as Rey’s mom. Makes me think they at least had thoughts of expanding the story at some point. She’s a great actress (Emmy award) and plays a deadly villainous assassin on Killing Eve.

 

Love the sly moore theory...I always assumed this was more of convience to Sidious... I go back to what Obi-Wan told luke in rotj "The emperor knew as I did..if anakin were to have any offspring..they would be a threat to him"

but his kids would be too but his contignency plan he forsaw vader turing back to anakin so he got someone pregnant sexually (sith would have sex i believe it is a passion thing) i know its frowned upon by darth bane ...or by artificial means (test tube)

If he did have sex it was probably just for his plans he set out years in advance so he can transfer into his future grandchildren (rey)

he might of had possibly more kids out there..he was obsessed with staying immortal

I still don't how the folks at Lucasfilm seriously think we could imagine Palpatine slept with a woman. I mean Sheevy does have electric personality but lying with him?

 

Who would be able to say no...? It wouldn't have been the first time a politician did...stuff. We're talking about a villian who kidnapped babies.

 

Maybe 'ol Palps reached out in forceskype and impregnated some unknowing participant

 

It felt like forced retcon yes, and I dunno, maybe her being Palpatine's creation like Anakin was in the Legends.
But Palpatine having family was weird, unless it was more akin to European middle ages royalty, when his son is ''bastard'' and not living in luxury,
being byproduct of Palpatine's pleasure endeavours. I can buy it like this, because Rey will really be nobody in this situation as her father and mother are,
and as Palpatines's offspring inherits his power in the force. I have noticed now that some of her lightsaber skills look simmilar to Palpatine in Episode 3, even in TFA so I wonder if that was a plan all along, or just coincidence.
Back to Episode IX - when you are bastard with strong force powers, then it makes sense that your grandfather wants you dead. My theory is that Palpatine felt the force dyad as she was born and sent the assasin Ochi to find the source and eliminate it, so she won't spoil his plans. He definitely took his lessons after being thrown by his apprentice down the shaft to not pursue another young force prodigy.

 

I don't know... we have only seen ol' palps when he is at work. I hear after work, he lets his hood down and can be a real animal. His light saber bring all the girls to the yard.

 

Not exactly the wife but could the son be a partial clone like Snoke? Perfect as human but not force senstive? But carried midicloriens? And Snoke was imperfect as he didn't look human but have high sensitivity? The wife could have been a lab rat instead of a test tube?
