Can we this time around have new planets that are more original?

Even if that means having to use some cgi? Because the planets in TFA didn't leave much of an impression let alone seem distinct enough from what we've seen before.

They gonna think in something special for VIII.
    Starkiller was destroyed.
And I don't think they will return to Jakku (maybe in flashback only).
Ahch To and the planet where Snoke lives must be the only ones confirmed, rigth?

Well that's a rather grim way to look at it. Lol. Have you been converging with the sith? There are people on those planets you know. :)

Also I thought tacodana was somewhat original. It had lakes valley and mountains. Endor was just forest. What little we saw of it anyway.

Maybe for too long yes, I know the starkiller attack made the galaxy more open, alot of lives lost but as history has seen it's the way of the galaxy, sacrifice is inevitable, Endor I saw enough of a forest to last me a lifetime, I found it more fascinating reading about it on wookieepedia than wanting to see it on the big screen.

Takodana is similar to Naboo I guess.

My favorite planet was Ahch To.

the snow never gets old to me. i'm sad that starkiller got poofed.

and sad that we might not get more snow so as to make way for different kinds of planets just for variety's sake.

especially because light sabers in the snow are really awesome.

Well all the planets are CGI/enchanced by it using VFX technology but I get where you're coming from which is why I liked the prequels since we were able to see the extent of what was not "Earthly" while making them sort of relatable to us as otherworldly which is something GL actually intended for us as he himself has said before in the past that he was extremely limited with the OT and felt remorseful about it...funny enough, we have gone back to the OT but this time on purpose, sort of like "Hipster Star Wars" :)P) when we should be expanding on the idea of The PT about how vast and creative the Galaxy really is (albeit with better VFX now) .

I didn't mind the planets we got...the whole notion of planets in SW is the idea of exploring them which I feel we didn't get enough of in some of the movies anyway. I wish we could have gotten to see more of Alderaan. Maybe of Hoth...Yavin IV. Endor, Naboo, Tatooine, maybe Jakku are planets we've seen enough of. Even though Coruscant was seen throughout the PT and a little tiny bit in ROTJ in the end, I still would like to see it again for the purpose of seeing a epic lightsaber duel somewhere in the depths of the old imperial palace. Also, how has Coruscant changed since the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader? Probably not so much. After all, the planet is one big city. lols. Still, would be cool to explore Coruscant a little bit more, especially after the Empire losing control of the planet when the New Republic retook it. Maybe...I dunno.

Bespin would be another I'd like to go back to and explore for reasons of how Luke's lightsaber was found and how it was Maz who kept it locked away. I hope that question will get answered but I doubt it will get answered in the movie. who knows.

Let's see...oh yeah...er...no. oh yeah, Dagobah...I want to learn more of that dark side cave...

Not to mention...the planets that have been mentioned before but never seen in any of the movies. Like...Ord Mantell...Moriband (used to be Koriband), Corellia...Kuat. Dantooine...

I'd like to explore Moriband...the thought of exploring Sith temples give me chills and out of curiosity... I like that...the sense of dread but also adventure and who knows where or how I'd end up. I could be stuck in the catacombs of the temple...with icky cobwebs...maybe have to fight my way with a lightsaber against ancient demons who are watchers of the sith temple. Also...have a conflict where I get thoughts projected into my mind and I have to fight them off even if they mean to turn me into a different person once I could get myself out of the temple. I call it a mind trip. lols...to be able to pinpoint what's real and what isn't..holy smokies, what a day or a week I would have. Then I would realize that it is just the spirit of Darth Bane getting inside my head...turning me into something I am not but in the end, I somehow manage to come out on top and still be the same person I was prior to entering the temple.

ooooh...the possibilities could be endless. but a nightmare... :(

i see where you're coming from.. regardless of what anyone here thinks of the prequels, the amount of world-building george lucas and his team did in the prequels was remarkable. i also think it set up the clone wars series well; the world-building in the clone wars series is unbelievable. considering how much more advanced graphics have become since the early 2000s, i wouldn't mind seeing some prequel-esque world building throughout the remainder of this trilogy.. even if it means more cgi.

I like to imagine exploring most of the planets of SW and just let my mind wander...when I was a kid, I wanted to explore Jabba's palace...learn its secrets. The last thing I wouldn't want to explore would be the pit of the great carkoon. lols. eeky. nasty place of the old sarlacc.

I would like to go back to Utapau.. I just loved the whole concept. It can also be easily done with location shooting and sets.. very little cgi necessary in comparison to some of the other "original" PT worlds.

I completely disagree with you. I've seen desert planets before but never like Jakku. I've seen forest planets before but never one that looks like a typically british forest in space. I've seen superweapons before, but never one built into an ice planet with pine forests and snow storms. Have you seen Luke's planet before? These spaces are believable because they exist in real life, but not everyone is able to visit them. They are exotic and that's what its about. They are palpable and present and most certainly not only an improvement to the blue and green screen mess of the prequels (lighting, actor interaction etc. were all off precisely because the locations were unrelatable and unreal), they are also a logical continuation of the manner planets were presented in the originals. I hope that they continue to make star wars planets real and palpable so we can visit them in real life and be just as amazed by those locations as the actors are in the actual movies.

We've already heard of new shooting locations which conform to this idea:
    Dubrovnik
    Mexican caves and rock formations
    Cappadocia (conj.)

I liked Ahch Too. It was cool with a bunch of small islands instead of huge land masses. Makes me think of islands in the South Pacific. I could see some Polynesian dudes rowing around in canoes.

I would like to see a much harsher planet. One with a lot of lava (not entirely lava, like Mustafar), where the landscape is mostly jagged rock with a lot of iron, thus a lot of rust, giving it a reddish brown tone overall. Add in harsh winds and heavy acid rain to make it a really harsh place to live. Someone really evil would have to live there!

Of course, it would not hurt to see planets that had more than one kind of landscape on them. Earth has swamps, deserts, grasslands, mountains, snow and ice, islands, etc. all on one planet. Why does every planet in Star Wars have to be so homogenous?

I like how every planet just happens to have a healthy human atmosphere. I wish we went to a planet with inhospitable conditions.

I really want an inverted planet.

I have a feeling they're going to go underwater like the concept in the art book. Hopefully its done right unlike the Gungan scenes.

Because the planet has to be established in one or two shots, planets in the GFFA tend to have one only climate. Because we have had already so many different planets, I feel that there are not many options left to imagine a new planet that is unlike another planet. We already had desert planets, snow and ice planets, city planets, forest planets, jungle planets, volcano planets, and water planets. What kind of planet have we not had yet?
