Daisy's answer : it's different, it's interesting (she hesitates a lot). When I say that to my girlfriend about her new hair it's not a good sign.

I’d have to respectfully disagree with your thinking here, for one reason above all else: Solo got its bad press (Lourd and Miller being fired, etc.) back in mid-June, nearly five months before Rian was announced to be taking on his own trilogy in early November.

If they really cared that much about Solo’s bad press, and thought that it would effect them enough to want to deflect from it in such a way, we probably would have seen a trailer cut together for D23 and the announcement about Rian’s trilogy could have been made public earlier (i.e. August/September).

I've seen all of his films and portions of his Breaking Bad episodes. I don't really like his movies - I own none of them on Bluray or DVD but I own all of Christopher Nolan's as an example - but the way he tells the plots are interesting at least and the variety of shots and visual sense with the cinematographer is good. Character wise - especially his treatment of characters that do not look like himself (gender/race) - that's a real lot lacking there on the screen and in the story. The Nolan brothers are lightyears ahead.

I love the Nolans, but I feel like you’re comparing apples and oranges here.

The Nolans are very obviously going to be lightyears ahead of Rian Johnson in those regards: they’ve made more films, have much larger budgets, etc.

It’s very important to remember that this is Rian’s first big blockbuster film. His last film was released in, what, 2012? The Nolans did three big blockbuster films (The Dark Knight trilogy) and it’s set them up to do pretty much whatever they want for the rest of their careers.

I don’t agree much with your comment regarding his treatment of characters who aren’t male or white: again, this stuff is largely down to the actors/actresses at your disposal, and that’s extremely limited for up-and-coming indie filmmakers who want to break into the big time in Hollywood. I doubt that his ability wouldn’t transfer to women and people of other races.

But regardless, it’s a good thing that he gets the opportunity to put your qualms with him right with TLJ.

Yeah, I am, like many of you, not worried at all and mostly because of Rian Johnson. We have to remember that Kathleen Kennedy kicked out directors after they almost finished shooting a movie (Han Solo) and as far I I remember, ordered to reshoot almost half of the Rogue One, because she felt it had to be done. So if she gave Rian a whole brand new trilogy to write from scratch, even if almost no one could have seen it, TLJ MUST be mind blowing, especially it's plot, since he will write plot for the entire trilogy (or at least it's basics). Maybe my hype for it will be my downfall, but I don't think so.

This thread has diminished my faith in the Star Wars community and humanity as a whole. The negativity from some people is truly asinine.

They’re probably fearful that this film won’t turn out the way that they want, or have focused far too much on a particular aspect of the film that we haven’t heard much about (i.e. Finn’s role).

As we all know, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering.

I’m sure we’ll see much more positive stuff once everyone here has seen the film; it feels - to me at least, and I mean no offence by this - that people are just feeling anxious right now.

What if they don’t do _____ with ____? What if _____ isn’t related to _____? What if it’s the worst Star Wars film to date? What if it’s bad?

But, my friends, what if it’s good?

I don't find people very negative. I am not myself. I have a lot of faith in RJ. I'm just asking questions.

I totally agree with this. Tempered expectations can be a good thing, but getting overly anxious over speculation when we still don’t know a LOT of what happens in this movie is a bit much.

You're right. I find it weird when I read things like "if I don't see a green lightsaber, I'm out of here." I just want a great entertaining movie without any specific story expectations. I'm open.

i don't really have any investment in what the cast says at this point. they've been paid to be in the movie and to then promote the movie; they're going to do their jobs. reading too much into whatever interviews they happen to give seems a little much; what if they're in a bad mood or are tired or jet lagged while giving the interview? some interviews will have them being energetic, others less so.

there's nothing anyone can say that will stop me from going out to see this movie. even if Harrison Ford suddenly came out and said, "it's garbage. all of it." I'd still go see it at least once.

i'm optimistic that this will be among the best Star Wars to be released. i expect some fans will be disappointed with choices made, but i'm very flexible; there are no points like Rey Solo or Plagueis that make or break it for me.

i'm going to be going on vacation to Mexico on the 8th and i arrive back in the states on the 15th; perfect way to while away the days until TLJ finally releases!

Their reactions are mostly part of their job on the marketing circuit.

A lot of the marketing for this film has been talking points.

    It's different.

    It blurs the lines.

    Is Luke bad?

    New directions.

    Over and over and over.

I'm just waiting to see the film myself.

What are they suppose to say exactly? Seems to me they're just downplaying it purposely.

I'm half hoping the real first line in TLJ is "THIS will begin to make things right."

    Yeah.

I could understand having some worry regarding Ridley and Boyega's interview with Comingsoon.net. But I think its too minor a thing to take too much stock in. Ridley's reaction to JJ coming back as reported by Rolling Stone? That's hard to ignore. Especially how it was revealed how tight the bond she still has with JJ. Is she so happy to work again with hr good friend or was it that her experience with Ryan or the direction of her character under him, wasn't what she hoped for? None of the above?

However there is nothing that does my heart joy more than Driver/Kylo/Reylo fans getting all twisted in knots for what could be exaggerated interpretations of harmless remarks. In my opinion there has been no more arrogant, overbearing, insufferable and antagonistic SW fandom on the internet/social media than the one that roots for all things Kylo.

wow, you really don't like those folks, huh?

what in particular is so dreadful about those that "root for all things Kylo?" and what does that even mean?

The fickle Star Wars fandom.”TFA sucks it was too much like ANH/OT.”
“I’m worried TLJ is going to suck because it is going to be different then anything we’ve seen before.”

I think if everyone can let go of their preconceived notions of what they think or want to have happen in TLJ, I think most fans will be pleased. If fans go in with a set list of must haves they are destined to be disappointed.

I myself am not worried about how TLJ is going to turn out. I’m going in with an open mind.
