SPOILER Concept Art Revealed

Thinking about Driver's character as a Core worlds aristocrat and Sith obsessed sycophant really has me intrigued. I think it will also give us a view into the type of influential people and families in the Republic supported Palpatine's rise to power. These are the kind of folks that would also seamlessly blend into the new power structure that arises after ROTJ and could corrupt and threaten the Rebellion's efforts to unite and roll back Imperial cronyism and corruption. This of course would result in a really messy, ineffective, and sad new government that the galaxy can't trust and result in a lot of strife. Is this where we are arriving in the Ep7 story?

 

The actual location of R2 and C-3PO has been bothering me lately, there haven't been a lot of discussion on it. I think it could be pretty crucial to the plot. If Luke is gone, who has R2? Threepio is probably with Leia.

With concept art I wouldn't worry about not seeing certain individuals, especially considering there can be 10+ concepts for one character

It's still just concept art but I think it leads a lot of credence to the "lightsaber in space" rumor that some people were still against. It also, in my mind, supports the third order theory because someone had to go get that lightsaber from somewhere on cloud city or Bespin

Yeah that's one of the puzzlers. All this art leads me to believe we will start off on Tatooine with Daisy Ridley's Solo character...but how does she get the ESB lightsaber? Do we instead start off with her in the Pod Falcon on Bespin?

 

I think people are seeing what they want to see.

You have to really WANT that to be Luke to see Luke.

She doesn't look under his spell to me, just distressed and waiting for the third character to act.

I think Making speculated way too much and now it's in people's heads.

Villain looks really cool though.

 

This only makes me more excited for the movie. If these concepts are real the movie looks amazing so far.

 

I'm of the secret order Driver is in found it in a flashback scene. It's floating in a box at the start of the movie, crash lands on planet, found by alien who brings it to Daisy variety.

But us of this theory have to deal with the eerily similar comparisons to the Legacy comic so I can see why you wouldn't agree

Has anyone noticed the DW under the Vader helmet prop? Is this just a file extension or something else?


Could this be related to the "DW" listed on the production board for the cast on the Skellig Michael shoot?

Long time lurker, first time poster. First of all a tip of the hat to viral, jason ward of msw, and badassdigest for stoking the flames for the last 6 months. Appreciate the hard work you guys put in, regardless of whether you sometimes 'tell and don't show.' Now that pleasantries our out of the way, by Jove is today a great day to be a Star Wars fan! Hope no one gets force choked over the leak but what's done is done and let's revel in The Forcening as it were.

Not enough Lando, Isaac, or bounty hunters for my taste, but man does it look amazing. Of course this is like water to a fanboy combing the desert for anything! Cue Space Balls.

The ATAT as secret base for Ridley is quite ingenious. Love it. That and the grave robber imagery really stole the show for me.

Onto speculation: The Zorro Luke bit is somewhat plausible, as is the version with Driver masking unmasking... But somehow both manage to feel a little expected. From the reverence on display, one would think there must be a blood tie and not merely obsession. Perhaps both but definitely a familial tie... which has me thinking of two potentialities. (I candidly await the snark and gtfo's... part of the fun really.)

1. That is in fact Plagueis (sp?). Think about it. You perfect immortality powered by badassery. Get bored. Want to have a legacy. Hit the midichlori lab, find your Mary, and watch from afar. Until the next generation of ingrates goes and murders your chosen one. Romans? Jews? No, the Jedi! And all you could do was watch from the other side of the galaxy. You'd be pretty pissed off with the world, moreso than usual. We killed darkside space Jesus, and there will be a reckoning. And don't bother with the whole killed-to-redeem-him-so-actually-saved him crap. Save that for Yaddle and co. Now it's personal.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized how impossible a task JJ has. How do you compete with the most iconic screen villain of all time? One could argue that the prequels had it easier in this regard... everyone knew who the villain was and it all served to fill in Vader's backstory... further cementing his status as the end all be all villain for the ages. Even the second tier villains in the prequels... Maul, Dooku, Grievous, and good ole Sheev are somewhat laughable and completely overshadowed by Vader/manboywhowouldbevader.

So do you attempt to create a new villain? Meh, uphill battle and you've only got 3 films to flesh him/her out. Not impossible but very very difficult.

Or do you play it safe and milk Vader for all he's worth? Think about Disney's investment. Think about the lukewarm reception to the prequels. Think about who is already the greatest movie villain of all time. Really leaves only one option. Still doubting? All 9 films are about the Skywalkers. Prequel centers on what made Anakin become Vader. OT deals with Vaders rise and redemption. Playing this out, the ST will also deal with the aftermath of Vader's redemption... So Vader must be seen and of felt on some capacity. Also we are selling toys, rides and all manner of transmedia doohickeys remember. If it ain't broke don't fix it. (Exception is Vader's helmet lolz... needs to be a bit banged up.)

Vader must return. But let's be clear. No one gives a swamp rat's ass about Sebastian Shaw or Hayden Panettiere lolz. We cherish the suit. The helmet. The mouth breathing James Earl Jones. That is what makes the concept work.

Now who wears the suit? If he's only in flashbacks, it's anakin inside. If we're going charred vader/daddy/spaceson issues, then it's up for debate. I find it difficult to believe Driver can channel the pathos necessary here. And his screen presence is questionable in such an emormous role. Those are some enormous black boots to fill.

Sorry went down a wormhole. Back on track, onto my second theory:

2. Leia Organa Solo as Vaderess. Queen Vader. Yep. We have heard little about her role. She is going to be sidelined with political nonsense. After the prequels intergalactic politics are the last thing Disney wants to give screen time to. So I think that's a smokescreen. Luke reached closure at the end of ROTJ but what about sister? Likely emotionally scarred yes? So much so as to take up Daddy's mantle? It sounds nuts but think about the echoes/mirroring of themes Uncle George is fond of.

Our new hero is a woman. The new trilogy puts women in the forefront. Both on the hero side and the villain side. Let's face it, boys/men will watch Star Wars no matter what. But we need to keep girls/women from watching that new Tina Fey flick! In all seriousness, when Disney bought Star Wars, it looked pretty obvious: we have the girl demo on lockdown but need to bolster our appeal to boys and young men. Isn't that what the Marvel flicks are for though? Star Wars can have enormous cross over appeal if done right. Generationally, and equally among genders.

Brother vs Sister... I mean brother vs sith-ster. With Han and kids picking sides. Come at me bros!

P.S. Am I the only one that thinks everyone's 'source' is the same: JJ's disinformation team. Until I see official pics/video confirming any of this, it's all fan fiction to some degree. And yes, I think he would go to these lengths to send us down the wrong lane. Everything unused because it didn't fit where the movie/script ended up becomes a feed-it-to-the-fanboys.

P.P.S. Is there always a literal 'mystery box' in JJ's films? Find it funny that his philosophy regarding spoilers and such becomes a device in the film with the saber in a box bit.
