SPECULATION Could there be a Time Jump in The Last Jedi?

I always knew that Padme changed clothes quite often in AotC, but nineteen?! Geez...

I think it's because Rey owns only one pair of clothes EVER through TFA so if she suddenly changes in TLJ then it could indicate a time jump .

 

Well, at the end of TFA she owns TWO complete costumes. Don't forget about her Resistance costume from the end of the film.

 

Is that why that movie seems so long?

 

Yeah that really threw me off because there was zero evidence she had anything else that she took with her off of haiku

 

She more than likely got the clothes at the Resistance base not from Jakku.

 

Because there are pilots who dress like that when they're off duty but the other question would be how would she even get a new costume in TLJ? I hope they are smart to answer that since they're using paper books now .

 

I imagine Rey is quite capable of sewing her own clothes, considering her background:

 

After watching the teaser again, the shot with the rocks rising; if you look close enough Rey's outfit is revealed here. She is sitting down. Behind her hand you can see her foot and leg.

I think that the crawl will explain something about the Resistance and the FO and then cut to Luke and Rey. I think that during her training she sees the future like Luke did in ESB. The time jump will occur (I think) after Luke tells Rey that the Jedi must end, or like someone had said earlier, during her training as a montage or something like that.

Maybe the crawl happens after the first scenes with Luke and Rey. I thought that in RO they could have put a crawl in right where they put the title shot. What if they do something like that. A few scenes first then a crawl....Nah! Nevermind kind of sounds dumb when I re-read it just now...

 

There has to be a time jump. I know a lot of people who like Rey as character who had to suspend their disbelief that she could be as accomplished as she was with no training. I tend to think with the Force actually awakening and Kylo Ren freezing matter and energy in place, it's certainly possible during her mind probe that acquired some knowledge from Kylo (which would be interesting because that would include what is traditionally considered Dark Side abilities)

But without the time jump it just doesn't feel like there's time for characters and factions to give us a new look. The Resistance lost a ton of fighters and a whole fleet in TFA, and they didn't have that many to start with. They need time to rebuild (and based on the teaser seems like there were many ships involved in a space battle). The FO lost a whole damn planet, that's troops, transports, fighters, and the super weapon. You'd think they'd need time to regroup to. And then there's Rey's training, Kylo's training, and Finn's healing. Without a time jump we get unprepared combatants on both sides giving us little more than what we had last time IMO.

So I agree w/everyone who says there will be a time jump after Rey's initial training. There has to be.

 

Almost all movies have time jumps. The only exception are those rare cases when the movie portrays events that unfold in real time. Even then, there is often cutting back and forth between different settings, so the passage of time in he movie doesn't exactly correspond with the passage of time for the viewer. The question is: how much time will be skipped over? In ESB, this is left pretty ambiguous, and though Star Wars fans debate exactly how much time has passed while Luke is training etc., for most viewers, it doesn't matter all that much: what matters is that the narrative seems to flow in a compelling way.

Maybe TLJ will do something like ESB: we won't be told precisely how long Rey is being trained, but if it's done well, it won't matter all that much.

 

To answer the question, maybe.

 

I'm hoping they leave Ach-To because LUKE has a vision of friends in peril. Yeah? Could be a thing.

 

Or Rey has visions of her friends in peril

 

I haven't read many rumors, but I feel there will be a time jump personally. Even though I don't want one.
