Following the events of TCW and Son of Dathomir we know Maul has lost a great deal of the Shadow Collective and has seen a pretty heavy defeat at the hands of Palpatine including the loss of his mother who guided him and to some extent gave him strength. With Maul being broken and battered, could we see a return?

I personally think we could see an appearance if only a short cameo. Maul is a fan favourite and just generally well written and excellent. Although I wouldn't want to see him in Rebels, I feel like there's a likelihood. I can't think how they would make it short, relevant and drive the plot forward though.

If Maul is in Rebels, I think it would be an Inquisitor centered episode where Vader charges him to find and kill Maul.

I do believe we may see him return. At the end of the clone wars when Palpatine beat him in battle Palpy said that he had plans for Maul.

Will be an Inquisitor I believe.

We see Palpatine act against Maul after TCW in Son of Dathomir, but this is more against Mother Talzin, so it's hard to say whether this could be that action! It could be interesting to see whether he survives through to the Rebels era or even the OT!

Oh, and welcome to The Cantina! May the force be with you!

While I think we may see him, I hope we don't see him in rebels. Leave him to comics, books, and whatever else we are going to call the new EU. Bringing him back in rebels would require a lengthy explanation on how he is still alive, as it cannot be assumed that the Rebels viewer has seen the necessary episodes of TCW to know the back story. In a format without time restrictions, that would be great, but since Rebels is a short show, and we know it is only planned to run for a few seasons, I would not want to burn up a large percentage of it on re-telling the story of Maul's survival.

I'd never considered how lengthy it could be! I personally want closure on Maul, but I think, like you, I would like to see it in other media. Son of Dathomir did an excellent job of portraying Maul and a continuation of that could be great. I feel like Maul's presence in Rebels could be portrayed poorly too, as there's no vengeance for the crew of the Ghost, so it would require bringing in Kenobi or something!

The Clone Wars left a lot of loose ends flapping in the winds of the Star Wars Universe. There are many possibilities for characters making a come back: Darth Maul, Ahsoka Tano, Shaak Ti, Asajj Ventress, Mother Talzin, Captain Rex, Mandalorians, Boba Fett and the other bounty hunters, Admiral Wullf Yularen... The list goes on.

The question is, will they make appearances in Rebels or in other media outside of books and comics like the sequels or the spin-offs?

If I had to take a guess, the only characters from TCW I could see appearing in Rebels are Ashoka and Boba Fett. Ashoka is so closely tied to the team producing rebels that I feel that it is likely they will try to complete her story arc. Fett could easily make a one episode appearance in the show, as he is well known and loved in the star wars universe, and would be easy to tie into the show.

Personally, I feel Maul has been mined for what he's worth, at least in the current portion of the storyline. A brief appearance perhaps, akin to what we've seen of Obi-Wan and the droids, or something along the lines of Voxx said about the Inquisitor being dispatched to off him. That doesn't actually require an appearance though, just mention.

I can see them focusing more on OT characters, like the extended appearance (and presumably future appearances) of Lando. TCW was the time to revel in PT characters, and thus Rebels is the time to start bringing in some OT characters. Wouldn't mind Ahsoka being somewhat regularly involved though. She has more potential for the current story than Maul in my view.

You can't go wrong with more Maul...Imo...he is a fan favorite. He's right up there with Darth Vader and Palpatine. And it would just be cool to see an episode with Maul making at least a cameo \m/

While I would love to see maul come back in some future content, I just don't see him showing up in Rebels. At this point of the show at least. I'm totally with you on Ahsoka showing up though.

I hope he doesn't. I'd rather see him saved for the rumored Obi-Wan spinoff. He'd be the perfect villain for that film right?

Yes, but they may have a brief appearance of both Obi-Wan and Maul to lead up to and promote that spin off if it gets made. (I hope it does)

I'm never sure about the idea of Kenobi being active in the Dark Times. I like the idea of him being stuck on Tatooine looking over Luke in complete exile.

In the Legends side of things, there was a jedi called Sharad Hett who exiled himself and became a Tusken warlord on Tatooine, so it could be interesting seeing something akin to that happen surrounding Kenobi. I think I would prefer him staying on Tatooine or nearby though or else his exile and lack of involvement would hold less weight!

That said, I think it could be good for Maul and Kenobi to settle their dispute once and for all and I would definitely be up for a sandstorm lightsaber fight. The snippet we got between Jinn and Maul in TPM was great! I think the desert backdrop works well with lightsaber combat, although they would need to make it a little more interesting somehow!

I agree, he would be great as an inquisitor. He was bred for what an inquisitor does and who can ever say no to Maul in a lightsaber duel. Seeing him after being pulled back into the fold would be interesting too. I think it could add a different side to the character that hasn't been there yet. What would drive him now? It would also say a little something about Sidious and his ever latent ability to manipulate. Maul would have to die before the end of the shows run though. It would be weird for such an important character in Episode 1 to be back to the top of his game and not appear in a New Hope.

I would like him to return and maybe duel the current inquisitor or Vader. He could even be a brain washed ally to the sith if anything. I just hope they show us his end through the cartoon.
As we have seen they have brought back or are planning to bring back some clone wars characters so I guess one could say that you can never say never.

I'm a bit tired of Maul, didn't really like what they did with him in TCW, but as someone else said, we need closure for his character. I just want it to be on screen, not in a book or comic.

Wow, I didn't even think of Fett. He'd be what, 25-ish. Perfect age for running around the galaxy, applying his trade.

I doubt Maul would appear in the rebel series he spent most of his young life being trained by Palpatine, he made his mark in the clone wars, I think that will do for now.
