But then again, Vader might have merely learned that the transmission of the Rebel spies was aimed at the Tatooine System, jumped there and found that Leia's ship was the only one in orbit.

After the "Plagueis debacle" we should all be aware that great ideas we breed in message boards must not necessarily make it into the final film.

[ The DS was mainly built at Geonosis. At the end of Tarkin, it was built enough to be mobile and left Geonosis. I really don't think they would move the DS unless they knew it was well-guarded and the superlazer worked. This supports my theory that the superlazer was tested on an asteroid around Geonosis. This also opens the possibility that there were more tests elsewhere after the DS left Geonosis.]Sorry I took so long to get on, Kuroth Wain.

The D.S. was gone when the Rebels went to Geonosis in The Honorable Ones. Why would they risk moving it if it's weapons capabilities were not yet tested. This supports my theory that it fires on one of Geonosisis asteroids.

I don't think it was firing operational at that time, the final checkout was completed before the trip to Alderaan.

When was the scene at the end of Revenge of the Sith with Vader, Tarkin and the Emperor? I am sure it didn't take 20 years to build DS1? Honestly, it could be a flash forward scene much like Luke handing the Saber to Rey......

Maybe it was secretly tested ON Geomisis before being tested on a "truly" habituated system .

EDIT: you tore down my last post lol ... Maybe they moved it because they had some sort of intelligence on the Rebels trying to destroy it (?)

Yes I believe that it was a flash-forward scene but it was BARELY even structurally sound by the looks of things so maybe it was a a time jump to like a few years into its building to show Darth Vader looking very defeated due to the events of ROTS and a completely different person and all .

I agree. Not only because of what you state, but for two other reasons:

    1. Chekhov's gun. They're not gonna introduce the "big gun" in the first act without it firing at some point in the 2nd act. In the 3rd act, you get the satisfying resolution of the Empire's "first defeat" and the stolen plans for said big gun, ensuring its eventual destruction and setting the course for the eventual demise of the Empire (no stolen plans for DS1, no eventual Empire demise).
    2. They had to have tested it before Alderaan. Tarkin would never has made a big public display of blowing up Alderaan without knowing it was going to work.

After seeing the R1 trailer has anyone's opinions changed? I still think it will be tested since Mon Mothma did say that "A major weapons test in imminent."

I was impressed how the movie is coming about just as the final piece is being fitted, I'm glad this weapon gets to survive one movie.

Yep I nick named her the white shiney (star destroyer) the empire sure know how to design a star destroyer, but this the early glory days of the empire so that have to make a strong intimidating presence.

According to my poll, we are the minority in believing that this is actually white....
