I guarantee this guy was saying between 1999-2005, "The PT doesn't feel like the OT to me.". and now, " The ST resembles the OT too much."

And I love the other quote, "The PT sucked, but atleast it was George Lucas vision.". I would ask him why he even bothered to see TFA since HE KNEW that Lucas had nothing to do with movie?

Calling TFA fanfic is an insult to everyone on that production staff that worked their tails off.

The movie had an impossible job to do and one that Faraci can't appreciate. He is the worst type of fanboy. The one who looks to complain because he claims to understand storytelling instead of enjoying the experience.

Wait....he liked Fant4stic? Damn. At least TFA was a finished product. Fant4stic had half its plot thrown in a shredder.

Also, can we please consolidate these threads into one? This article is adding nothing new to the already repetitive discussion.

It would be completely unfair to consolidate "negative" threads. We don't do that for threads that are positive on the movie. Some, though, border on trolling. Those are a special case. However this reviewer, and his review, are a single subject so the fact that it gets a thread is just fine.

Real quick....how can a CANON movie be fanfic? However you feel about the movie it is NOT fanfic. It is CANON. Also write a better film and get it made. Then we can rip apart ALL the flaws in your movie from the safety of our laptops and usernames, try and poison everyone around us with our depressing outlook on life and one day realize when 97% of people think the opposite way then I do about a film, I am more than likely wrong on the quality of the film because let's face it, I'm narcissistic.

While I do agree with your point in general, the specific issue relates to critic reviews. Do you think it would be okay if we posted a separate thread on each positive review of the movie? I'm not seeing a separate thread for Jahns, Stuckmann, Schmoes, Collider Jedi Council, et al. I would assume the mods wouldn't be too happy if anyone created 300 or so new positive critic review threads.

It looks like only those dissatisfied with the movie are getting into the act of posting a separate thread for each negative critical review they can scrounge up. If that isn't trolling, please let me know.

I'm pretty sure we have a stickied critic review omnibus thread just to avoid such clutter. We also have a stickied member review thread.

I don't have to be a high-Mach to see there is a concerted effort to turn this film into a pariah.
I have been watching a lot of these videos over the past 24 hrs.. They're clever little hustlers. If I didn't know better, I might be swayed.. but I do.
That Plinkett review can't come soon enough. A lot of people out there that need to be.. educated.

I wouldn't be giggling just yet @DFF because it's your side that's getting the education.(emperor)
Btw, thanks for acknowledging you are receiving my responses to your ridiculous claims and are just trying the play the ignore game. Thats cool, I don't require your feedback; I just need to know your looking.
    And now I do.

I may be getting figuratively upset. Metaphorically concerned? Sure.

But in no way am I literally upset.

    Can we sum this up?

DEVIN FARACI IS HACK. HIS OPINION IS FOR CLICKS.

Georges vision was crap. It's fiction. George talks about "his stories" like they actually happened. The Prequel story wasn't told well, so many didn't like it. JJ gave us a great movie that moves the Skywalker saga into new territory while not acting like he was so full of himself that he needed to CHANGE everything we love about Star Wars. He stayed true to the recipe for success.

Let's not forget GL had to keep tinkering with the films with no respect for the people that consumed and loved it. It's like changing a recipe that is successful and people like eating, but you do it just because YOU don't like it anymore. How selfish is that?

Back on topic. Faraci doesn't understand Star Wars. Like GL, he's too into himself to get it.

Humm, the thing is, who says fanfic is a bad thing. I find the entire article one of those authors that are "too cool" and see something no one else sees. There will be a period when it will be "cool" to no like The Force Awakens.

Hmmmm. They set out to wash away the bad taste the prequels left a lot of OT fans with. They wanted to return to the spirit of the old movies and have the new one be (co-) written by the very same guy who helped write more than half of said OT. To legions of fans the OT is Star Wars and the PT felt like bad fanfic. It's quite clear where the creative team behind ep7 (I presume Kasdan especially) stand on this matter.
Basically the new film is a celebration of what made the OT great to a lot of old school fans while introducing new characters with new motivations and such.
A passing of the baton so to speak.

That's a catch-22 right there: stick too close to the OT and it's called fanfic or reboot, do something entirely different and it's 'that's not SW' and 'my childhood has been raped' nonsense.

I believe they did a tremendous job reintroducing the audience to the sheer exhilarating fun that was the OT while starting a new series. I'm getting the feeling the familiar elements and beats will remain but wouldn't be too surprised if episode 8 takes us to new places as well.

That's another thing episode 7 did really well. Boy, am I ready for episode 8!
