When he begins the article with "this is not click bait".....that usually means it's click bait.

You know hwat. This is totally what I noticed. Just thinking about how after my first viewing in the car ride home I didn't think much about the whole X-wing attack on Starkiller or much about the fighter action at all and more about Rey meeting Luke, what happens next with Kylo and all the other character moments throughout.

The only fighter action I though about later was Poe's continuous shot on Takodana, so freakin' badass. (Which built his character as best pilot in the galaxy lol)

This is making me realize why I get annoyed by people trashing the film to unnecessary lengths. I understand when people give an actual critical analysis, but so much is nonsensical trash.
We have seen, evidenced from the behind the scenes video and the way everyone involved in the film talks about it, how much they love Star Wars and brought their passion to this film. For some to, like possibly JJ, it is their Magnum Opus.

The title of this thread should be, "Irrelevant click-bait site produces more click-bait related to TFA."

Wow. It's a wonderfully-written article and I agree with him 100%, especially these two bits:

About Han giving up the Rebellion/Resistance and going back to being a smuggler:

It’s a cheap way to reset Han Solo to the days before he was housebroken.

Yes, because the writers were too in a hurry to think up a way he could still be dashing and exciting while at the same time aging and maturing into a respected leader and family man. Of course, I knew he was written this way from the beginning, but I had truly hoped this is why Han was separated from Leia and the Resistance (only I thought he was looking for Rey):

....Han Solo scouring the galaxy for signs of his wayward son, spending years tracking down leads, running down the First Order’s criminal contacts, intending to put a stop to the evil he spawned. A driven Han I can believe, a Han who leaves his wife not because he’s worried she hates his face but one who leaves his wife because he has to take care of their unfinished business.
I could have written those words myself, except I'm no writer.

The author goes on to say that he's puzzled why Han's death isn't really talked about. But, what is there to say? At this point, he died for nothing. We don't know if Kylo will be redeemed, or if his death will set other things into motion. Chewie roared, Leia shed some private tears, Finn and Rey looked sad. That's it. Han died a loser as far as we know. I personally think people are just shocked, and reluctant to discuss it at this point. But once the excitement of the movie dies down, people are going to ask- what the hell happened here?

I would respectfully disagree. This is a thoughtful and well-written piece, not trolling or click bait. It's not a hater's piece at all- it's by someone who really loved the character of Han Solo.

I think that this article is a good example of what I'd call the loyal opposition.

    Oh boy.

I too quickly assumed that the article you posted was another one that I had read concerning Han Solo. A very hateful and unreasonable one. Then I actually clicked on your link.

I apologize for my response. I was being too hasty and presumptuous.

Although I do disagree with many of his points, that article is actually very thoughtful and well-written.

I was going to post this article but there are too many people who get emotionally defensive when you critique TFA.

    Honestly, it's borderline weirdo stuff.

TFA defenders will say "of course it isn't perfect" and then demand all threads that talk about TFA problems be merged or deleted.

The legacy characters were treated very poorly.

    Luke is a coward...Han is a loser.

No one can justify their actions without saying "we will find out in 8" or some other excuse.

Which proves TFA does not stand on it's own.

I didn't need to see ESB to appreciate ANH. I didn't need to see ROTJ to enjoy ESB.

    Etc etc.

The characters were reset in a very very lazy way .

I'm surprised more so called OT fans aren't talking about this.

These heroes faced down Vader, tried to redeem Vader, etc...and ran from this??

    Han is a loser.

Luke let Han die, potentially/nearly let Leia die, and billions.

    It's awful.

But JJ and the cast seem nice, so lock this thread??

    Wierdo stuff

Full disclosure: I didn't read the article. I don't care to spend too much time reading about "what TFA got wrong".

I just want to address Han's "cheap reset". I actually kind of agree with that and would have preferred a world where Han and Leia grew old together, but in defense of TFA:

    - Even good marriages very often fall apart after the loss of a child. This is statistically proven. That kind of trauma destroys marriages and I think Han going off the deep end a bit would be a very normal reaction a parent might have to their son becoming a mass murderer.

    - And Han absolutely did not die "for nothing". He died fighting for his son. He was not coerced by Leia into doing something stupid that he didn't want to do. How do we know? Because when he was stabbed his last living act was to caress his son's cheek. If Kylo Ren ever turns from the dark side, it's going to be because of that simple act of selfless love.
