My main problem with Rey being a Skywalker is that it is way too convenient for the now experienced audience and fanbase. And I can't think of Luke dropping his child in a desert planet like that and then vanishing. Why would he do that? He could at least leave her to Leia, Maz or someone else he trusts like Obi Wan did with the Organas and the Larses. Lor Tan Sekka could be that person but we see no bond or evidence that they know each other.

The idea of her being another chosen one conceived by the force or anyhting like that, though, seems worse to me...

I really can't think of something that would work perfectly for me, I wouldn't rule out that she is a Solo and Luke probably took her away in childbirth for some reason (sensing the fall of the boy maybe). But then we see her being more than 5 years old when she was left. And ok Han couldn't sense that she is his daughter, Leia wouldn't feel a disturbance in the Force or anything like that when she is near her?

I don't know, every theory has is pros and cons, I hope they make the right choice and explain it well.

Who isn't? (hell they could even cast me in and i think everybody on this forum also)
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 27, 2015, Original Post Date: Dec 27, 2015 ---
Like Darth Vader only made sense if he was Luke's father and redeem himself in the process of Luke evolution, so does Rey only makes "movie plot" sense if she is Luke's daughter and discover her capabilities in order to carry on his father work/adventures after his gone.

I agree with all of that, and everything so far seems to go that way, is the Logical way, the path of least resistence.

But would be great for us, the SW Fans, to have a tremendous twist on this linear story, would be great to know Rey was the daughter of some really bad guy Luke's defeated and he just adopt and raised her (Luke's parenthood is still active here but we get an evil twist and a new story) or Rey just became evil, the new Dart Vader, adopting Han's line "there's just too much Vader in Her" (looks good but to get on with this they needed Kylo to came back to the good side after killing his own father, complicated plot but with potential).

One other thing, why the Jedi need a celibate vow? Seem none of them are doing it, if it was stabilizer to prevent the Jedi from going to the dark side i think there will be more DarkSiders than Jedis in the Universe, if Luke had a family wouldn't he be falling to the Sith?

Well, we will see in 18 months. I guess.
I don't see any reason why she has to be this or that.

And - dig this - i still get quite an emotional impact at the end of the movie.
Why? Well - Without bringing any preconception to who Rey is, the movie shows us that she has passed a series of tests, and has arrived at her destiny. To find luke's lost saber, and to find the man himself.
And to show up, having awakened in the force, as his last chance to train a new jedi.

If you think of Rey as just Rey, then you allow for whatever episode 8 wants to show you.
How can that not be the best way to approach this?
The way i see it, Everyone who is "all in" thinking that rey is this or that, they are setting themselves up for disappointment.

    One Question to you all

I know the "Force" was moulded after the "Chi" from the Japanese culture, but while the Chi can be mastered by anyone who studies and practices it, the Force on other hand can only be handled by the chosen ones, the Force Sensitives.

Also knowing the tremondous flaws in the Human Psique and human society through out our entire history as a species, i would like to ask...

Does the Force and the Force Sensitives would create an Apartheid Society, a segregation between the Force sensitives and the other humans?

The fundamental flaw of the prequels... In my humble opinion. Is how the force was retconned into something... Er, incoherent and well, sucky...

The original trilogy: "the force surrounds us, penetrates us, binds us all together."
"Luminous beings are we. Not this crude matter."

In the OT, anyone can tap into the force. Through their discipline, their concentration. But mostly through their belief and faith. It is spiritual.

But the skywalker family had a special strength with the force. For whatever reason. And that was ok too.
"The force is strong in my family."

The prequels pretty much screwed that up. (Sorry)

So, by the time the prequels were done, star wars fans are now spouting that you have to be from a freakin' royal bloodline to be a jedi and yada yada yada.
Thanks, Lucas. You just ruined one of the greatest things about star wars: That as a kid, i could imagine being luke skywalker.

    But nope. Not enough midichlorians.
Not "born of the force" like anakin's whiney arse.

    Now, in 2015...
i feel that it is being made expressly clear already in 1 movie that disney will restore the force back to where it started in a new hope.
    Mystical, and all encompassing.
Not something that separates people who got it from people who don't...

As star wars fans, we can all decide whether we like this or not.
I for one, see it as incredibly positive.

I know that Rey being Luke's daughter is a very popular theory and is possible. I'm cool with it if she turns out to be his daughter. However, I don't think she is. I saw TFA for the third time and I tried to focus on this possibility. My opinion is that the only reasonable and logical way for Rey to be Luke's daughter is if they both are unaware of it. It is obviously that Rey doesn't know Luke. She thinks he is a myth. It is not until she meets Han that she even knows Luke is real. If she was 5 when she was left in Jakku she should know who her parents are. The theory on her memory being erased by the force is convoluted and lazy if it were to be true. We know from Pablo Hidalgo that Kylo/Ben turning on the "academy" occurred more recent than 14-15 years ago which means that Rey was dumped on Jakku prior to this. This puts into question the Luke was protecting Rey theory or Kylo/Ben could not kill his cousin so he dumped her on Jakku theory. Let's move on to Maz Kanata. She specifically says that she knows that Rey realizes her family is not coming back for her. Maz continues to state that one will. Rey responds Luke. Well if Luke is family then Maz is majorly contradicting herself here. Maz also comments that her destiny does not lie in the past but in the future, obviously referencing Rey's destiny to train with Luke. Next take JJ's numerous interviews where he implies that the impetus of Rey's character was for some unknown character, living in the remote part of the galaxy and only not knowing who Luke Skywalker is could become something more, a hero.

So to summarize I think Rey is not Related to Luke. Luke may become the father she never had (which she apparently viewed Han as before his death) but I don't think they are blood related. However, the possibility does exist but to me the only reasonable explanation is that Luke knocked up somebody and was unaware she had a child. Mom never told Rey about her "real" father and at some point had to drop Rey off on Jakku and for some reason never came back. It will be very interesting to see how it all plays out.

The only fault i can see in the Theory of Luke being the father without knowing he was the actual father, is the simple fact that Rey would have a very strong presence in the force and Luke being the strongest force man in the galaxy would feel her. And how to explain the fact that Rey is already been under some kind of trainment in her youth, prior her arrive on Jakku, who could train her in her youth? (only Luke).

I don't dislike the Luke Daughter theory but prefer the Luke master theory, Luke is not her father, not her biological father, he is her master and teacher, a foster parent, that trains, loves, protects and educates her, whatever their parents are.

Thank the maker. someone else feels exactly as i do.
I am ok with any outcome for rey's origins, but see very clearly that the film has set her up as Luke's first "worthy" pupil.

Also, i want to ask luke's daughter theorists this:
Why did the script writers focus on Rey bringing Luke a token of her worthiness - the lost lightsaber?
Why is this necessary as a story point, if she belongs to him?
The entire point of the saber is to connect new characters to the events of the OT.
People are reading lots of things into it.
But, if you are reading into it literally, Finn is luke's son as well, right?
Because he weilded it twice as much as Rey.

Just sayin... For every luke's daughter argument, there is a counter-argument...

Plemons chubbed out for a role in Black Mass. That is all. He would have been a fine choice, but Boyega was good as well.

Maisie Richardson Sellers is mixed and looks mixed. In teory Luke's daughter can be mixed. Mother can be any race.
So that actually does not contradict with teory that Rey is a Luke's daughter.

Rey looks different and it is a female, soo it is obviously not the clone of Luke.

Star Wars saga movies are about Skywalker family.
Spin-off and Standalone movies are about other characters.

But she was not born during ESB and I doubt that Yoda could look so far into the future.
This is a sick idea, transgender Luke.
    Which one? :D

Not true. In OT force sensitivity was also something rare. Everyone is connected with the force, but only the ones who are force sensitive can use force on their own will and have force powers.

That is why Luke and Leia where last hopes. Force and how force works is the same in PT and OT.
Intention never was that everyone is force sensitive and that everyone can be a Jedi.
That would ruined the force sensitivity and jedi, and make them not special.

Childrens always can imagine that they are Anakin, Luke or any other Jedi. How force sensitivity works does not change that.

Force sensitivity was always supposed to be rare.

@D-green - I don't disagree with you at all. Because strength in the force is rare. Yes.

But, What is more evident in ANH, is that belief in the force is even more rare.
Why else does Han call it a hoaky religion? Why do officers in the empire poke fun of even vader himself and his ancient sorcery?
In ANH, we are shown that the force binds us all together.
By the time the PT finishes, it is an element that segregates people more than anything else.
I am not questioning canon, just pointing out a path forward for a multi-billion dollar franchise outside the hands of Lucas.
disney may wish to tweak the force slightly, so that young movie watchers can be inpired and believe, not be put out because they aren't of high enough midichlorian count.
That is all i am saying , really.

After all, the new movie is called the force awakens.
We already see the force acting of its own accord...

In PT is the same, as stated by Qui-Gon Jinn, ... The force is in every living thing.

    But force sensitivity is rare.
''Strong with the force'' is just a different name for ''midichlorian count'' concept.

Only small number of people in Star Wars universe are strong with the force/ force sensitive.

Belief in the force is another matter.

And like I said before, childrens can ( and are imagining ) imagine what they want. That they are force sensitive/ strong in the force/ high midichlorian count, that they are Jedi/Sith/Knight of Ren/Night sisters it does not matter for them, really.
