All respect to his actor qualities he does not fall in line with my preferences for a well...baddie or ultra cool ass kicking man.
I might get flamed but I have the right to have my opinion. At best I can accept him as a minor jedi character or that like.
But some kind of ass kicker?...No way.

You do not have to look like Bruce Willis to be a good fighter. Gleeson has the look of an everyman kind of hero which to me is infinity more compelling. The hero within kind of thing.

Do we really need a movie full of guys that look like Ultimate Fighters to think they can be heroes? Seriously? Luke, Han, Leia... Ben. Do they fit the modern hero archetype? No. Thankfully. Do we need "The Rock"? no. As Yoda says... Size matters not. Neither does "badassness". The force is what makes Jedi impressive and the Sith threatening. I hope Dohmnall is a Jedi and blows minds.

I'm thinking that Vader's remains are being robbed so that his image can be resurrected and passed down to a new generation of evil doers. Kind of like the mask of Zorro or Pirate Roberts getting passed on from one person to the next.

Vader would be famous across the galaxy as a signal of power, so it would be an awesome phychological weapon to strike fear into enemies. Imagine Rebels and Stormtroopers facing off in battle and all of a sudden Vader unseen for 30 years marches into the battlefield. Rebels who instantly have a WTF moment and crap themselves!

Also the business part of my brain thinks that Disney needs a vessel to ensure that Vader's image can be contiuously marketed and merchandised for the ST Star Wars young generation. Vader = $$

No we do not need just men who all look like ultimate fighters.Im perfectly aware that one should not judge a book by its cover and that Yoda for instance was a great jedi warrior and master.I just expressed my preferences which I am entitled to.In my view there is room for diversity of men and people in this movie. My aim is not to offend others who do not share my sentiments in regards to this.I have expressed my thoughts on this issue and will not push it further as in trolling. If it would be so that this actor lives up to my set exceptions as an ass kicker if the cyborg dude is such a character (He could just be a tragic neurotic mourning like dude and in that way be a baddie) I will be among the first to admit I was wrong.Matt Damon proved me wrong for instance in his role as Bourne.I had problems seeing him playing a role where he took names and kicked asses. He proved me wrong.

I don't think Gleeson is the grave robber
MakingStarWars posted this on the force.net
This is how it was explained to us. Luke is off his rocker a bit. It isn't clear if he can't be trusted. So the characters are thinking he might be evil and it isn't clear what's up with him. The Phantom of the Opera embrace stuff still appears to be Luke.

I have a theory. And its just a theory. That at first Luke was going to be the Cyborg monster. By the end of the film when he does the right thing, he is rebuilt and he's the guy we remember. I think they might have taken an alternate path. Made his beard all crazy and his eyes are wild. So when he finally focuses that power and does the right thing at the end, he returns "cleaned up."

It is almost impossible to follow up on the Luke stuff right now because of the stories drawing heat. So I'm playing the waiting game here for a bit longer.

I got some message from someone a while ago claiming all that happens but at the end Luke still puts the Vader helmet on. I think its probably not accurate so I didn't run it.

I agree entirely, but wouldn't it be easier to replicate the mask and costume from images and holocrons? Why go to the trouble of getting the actual helmet unless there's a good reason to, especially as it's badly damaged? But I do agree with you. ;)

The helmet is burned... unusable... a remnant of an age gone by. It is useless... except as a memento of the man who was

Agreed 100%... but the value would be entirely sentimental, not practical

It seems like everyone has forgot he is in the movie!

He wasn't in the teaser trailer and there haven't been many rumors about him.

What kind of role do you think he will have in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?

Personally, I have always contested that he is a high ranking imperial officer, because after all, someone has to be one of those. And I can just picture him with slicked back hair bossing people around. I have been told that this differs from other characters he's played, but that doesn't mean he can't do something different.

And as you pointed out, there is basically no information about his character. He was not on location which suggests studio work, like a star destroyer for example.

Well people in the know have said it would be too big a spoiler to let out. Maybe he IS Luke's son. Although I do remember reading somewhere he is supposedly Leia and Han's son but I doubt that very much.

I'm guessing yet another "small but pivotal" role in the same realm as Serkis and MVS. Something along the lines of Windu in TPM. An important character in the grand scheme of things, but not a whole lot of screen time in this movie which is why we don't see many spoilers regarding them. My speculation is that he is somewhere in Leia's story line as we have not heard any word on what she is up to either. This leads me to believe that she and anyone in her arc were shot mostly on studio sets away from prying eyes so possibly in a political arena somewhere. I would guess we'll intercut with that B- story after we establish our main heroes and Han on their adventure/search for Luke path.

Again I think being an imperial officer is completely the wrong role for Gleeson, he might have the look to you but his career trajectory and talents are almost the exact opposite.

I'm one of the chief Gleeson is a Skywalker/Solo (leaning Skywalker) supporters. The reason we haven't heard much about him is because he will have a bigger role in VIII. I mean even Obi-Wan was kind of just there in I, the focus was on Qui-Gonn. Obi-Wan wasn't central to the plot until II.

If he is a Skywalker he will be with Han who has been taking care of him since Luke disappeared, there have even been some rumors of him being on the Falcon, just not as a focus (man that is shaping up to be a crowded ship)

This is also a theory only I have, but I think the fall from grace story some people seem to want Driver to have will instead happen to Gleeson, and redeeming him will be a plot point in VIII and IX

Finally looked this guy up as I was wondering if he could pass for a young Iam McDiarmid... No way in hell. In fact, his only resemblance is to Luke. So either he's young Luke in a flashback/holocron scene or he's Luke's son. The fact that we haven't heard anything about him... ? Maybe JJ wants us to think it's Driver in the hood, but it's really Domnhall?

There could be a contrast between Driver as a wannabe badass... and Domnhall as a natural born one?

What if it's not a tragedy that is keeping Luke away, but the realization that his kid (whom he should never have had but couldn't help it) is a bigger danger than the patsy Driver?

Also, remember G@ryGr@y's tweet once the trailer was released; something to the effect of 'I'm not a betting man but something tells me Gwendoline Christie loved that trailer' THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN? Why would a noted Hollywood insider/major geek movie scooper tweet that? Her face wasn't in the trailer at all. Wouldn't it make more sense to mention someone who is seen/heard in the trailer or clearly alluded to? That thought leads to Christie being the masked figure, or somehow being more connected to what we saw/heard than we think. Could also be a random tweet, but what fun would that be!
