Oh, I never said that they aren't canon. I'll never say that. They are, for better or worse, canon.
(I know it wasn't aimed at me, but I needed to say that)
Also, that's a very good article. Thank you for sharing it.

Why do you like to lie, I was there when the PT came out too, it's still just a vocal minority.

I think the sum of the films is greater than the parts. I love the SW universe more than I love any one movie. Perhaps the PT could be seen as depressing in a lot of ways, which everone here is already familiar with, but there is still so much left to enjoy. Besides, utilising the fast forwatd/skip button on the dvd player can markedly improve one's viewing satisfaction.

    Hmm...

I think I may have just gotten whiplash from rolling my eyes at your comment too hard. Not the part about you liking the romance, to each his own on that one. Saying there is no good or bad movies though, really? I can't even imagine how bland life would be if I didn't have things in it that I both liked and disliked. Sure, whether or not each person thinks a movie is good or bad(or somewhere in between) is subjective, but stating there is no such thing as good and bad movies is utterly ridiculous and a poor way to argue your point.

Vocal minority? Sure, those who HATE the PT with a burning irrational passion are indeed a minority, but there's plenty more who simply dislike them or think they are mediocre at best. Do those people make up an overwhelming majority? Probably not. But I certainly wouldn't call them a minority either. The PT is neither universally loved or hated, but it certainly is divisive among the fans. For proof of that on a smaller scale simply look at the ratings on the first post of this thread. At this point the positive ratings on that post outnumber the other ones by a ratio of three to one.

As for the statement that fans are complaining about "nothing" instead of "critiquing", that couldn't be further from the truth. People who complain about the PT generally have specific issues about the film that are critiques in of themselves.

Also, your statement that the PT and OT are no different is extremely inaccurate. Even if someone enjoys both trilogies equally, they would have to acknowledge that they are very different and cover different points, perspectives and so on.

Indeed, you are entitled to your opinions and are allowed to love the PT. Power to you on that in fact. I'm not really a fan of the PT despite growing up with those movies(I don't outright hate them though), but I'm not threatened by people like yourself enjoying them either.

The story (in it's rough form) is the same story that Lucas spoke about in the late 80's, and it's never changed much.

i love your testimony! i love hearing stories about people discovering Star Wars late in the game ~ because it goes to show the power of the franchise and how well the OT holds up even with all of its narrative wobbles and cheeseballs and in the face of all the hyper-3D-action-'splosion movies we get these days.

Star Wars endures! and i'm so grateful for fans like you who "get" that there's something in it for everybody!

    Thanks!!

I know! All I could think right after seeing the OT was: "Why on earth did it take me so long??"

But it has been hard. I have even suffered some degree of backlash from friends who are sort of "hipster" regarding Star Wars: they see the laggards as me with a certain degree of contempt, or perhaps it is just plain envy because I have learned about SW in six months more than what they have learned in years lol.

Anyhow, no matter the extent of fandom you are on, it is great to be able to speak the same language. Long live Star Wars!

    it's never too late!

anyone who says to anyone else that they aren't a "real" fan should be flogged with Jar Jar's ears.
that's antithetical to everything Star Wars ought to teach us.

even if you love the PT (or even Jar Jar), or never played a Star Wars video game, or think Splinter of the Mind's Eye is a brilliant book.
if you love anything about Star Wars, then you are a fan.

if all you do is hate on the aspects of it that you don't like, it and grouse to other people why they should too, then maybe i question your love ~ hahaha

    Exactly!!

In my opinion, either you are a fan or not and that's it. No matter if you used to watch the OT since you were three years old, or you just discovered it six months ago. No matter if you have never read the comics, or if you didn't like TFA. To start comparing the degree of your fandom to think you're a better fan than others is just to expose your own insecurities.

    Um...no.
I just wanted to give all of these an extra like.

What does that have to do with this conversation? Seriously, when you brought it up earlier, it was to a post where it made no sense.

Why do certain fans think they know the general feelings of the Prequel movies or any other movies? Did they count the number of people who liked or disliked the movies? Do they honestly believe that Rotten Tomatoes or the negative fanboys who went out of their way to speak loudly about their feelings can really give realistic numbers on the true reactions to the films?

Why do people think that they can ascertain an accurate reaction to any movie? Why do they think they can ascertain the general quality of any movie, when films, like other forms of art, are subjective?

Considering that the Prequel movies are about the downfalls of Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic; why wouldn't they be somewhat depressing in the end?

I was excited for the rest of the prequels when my step dad first forced me to watch Star Wars (best decision ever on his part), but then it all kind of fell. I had thought that TPM would be a kind of bad movie which was setting up for two way better movies. I was very wrong. Although all of the PT movies had their moments.

Personally I feel that TPM is the worst out of the PT, it did have it's good moments and goodish. The battle with Darth Maul and the pod race.
In my opinion in enjoyability ep 2 and 3 are the same. Apart from the odd scene which I skip for example, sand.
