That was totally incidental. Kylo was kneeling to pick up the dice that belonged to the father he murdered. Even if he had been on his feet he would still be looking up at Rey and age down at him due the topography.

I'm afraid that is purely in your mind and you forgot that Ben performs that same miracle (without training!) . A greater miracle in fact where he brought Rey back to life. Finishing what his grandfather started. And ensuring that Palpatine couldn't win.

And I know you are going to say that Ben shouldn't have done that because Rey didn't show appreciation for it later on according to your own obscure personal standards. So I'll save you the trouble.

Cutting your nose to spite your face isn't my idea of what being a fan is all about.

Attempting to rationalise isn't the same as being rational.

I liked TFA very much....but on repeated viewings it isn't hard to notice how in many ways it 'aped' ANH, although the engaging new characters and several fresh twists made it a fun watch.
With TLJ, it was the opposite....the more I watched it the more 'clever' it seemed, it was visually stunning, from the sight of the Falcon hurtling through caves of red crystal to the alien and costume designs of Crait, to 'Holdo's sacrifice'. What really made TLJ for me, however, is the quality of the performances....everyone seemed to be giving their heart, but it was Driver and Hamill that stole it. The scene where Driver pleaded for Rey to join him truly made me feel for Kylo Ren, despite the 'wrongness' of what he was offering ....you had the impression there that he genuinely believed he was doing the right thing, rather than being a bad guy on a power trip.
Hamill was a revelation....he gave the performance of his life as cynical, jaded Luke.

I also liked how they set up several possibilities for the last film....Hux's anticipatory look at the kneeling Kylo showed someone who had no intention of bowing and scraping to someone he saw as a lunatic. 'The war has just begun' quote from Luke while the cameras focused on Finn...'stormtrooper revolt?' And most of all...
Poe as Resistance Leader. 'The Resistance is reborn tonight'.

I think a lot of my hatred for TROS is how all these potential scenarios were ignored. I wonder what the film would have been like if they'd followed through with them?

For me, the best was the last Jedi. I really like the Finn vs captain phasma battle, and in the last Jedi, we got to see a lot of the good and bad sides of kylo ren. I also really liked the battle of crait and kylo vs luke.

I have to say here that Crait is/was one of the most visually stunning planets in the entire SW saga...and I absolutely loved the crystal foxes!

Each has their own merit, probably a little biased to say TFA, but much of that is just due to the anticipation leading up to it. Pros and cons list!!

TFA - Star Wars is back, baby! But... Han dies
TLJ - Luke is back, baby! But... Canto Bight bites
ROS - Lando is back, baby! But... FNbLXfSXsAUvuVz.jpg_large.jpg
Can't even type the words anymore.

Overall, I'm just grateful we were given more Star Wars. Hated to see Han, Luke and Leia go, but that's the way life goes. Nothing done or said in the last three movies can change the joy and wonderment those characters have given me over my lifetime.

My favorite will always be TFA, it had so much potential, and 2nd TLJ, I have allot of issues with TROS even though there were some parts I enjoyed. Like you said I'm just happy that were getting so much SW content... I remember the dark times when I had to watch Star Trek... hehe.

    I totally agree, Rogues1138!

JJ did an excellent job of introducing our new heroine and her 'sidekicks' --- plus a cute new droid --- for the trilogy. Yes, it was clearly a 'reboot' in its structure, but most fans didn't care. We had an exciting new cast of characters and a compelling new story that was being introduced. Could fans nitpick about various aspects of it (i.e Rey's abilities with no training), sure. But personally I didn't concern myself with them because I knew we had two more feature films to tell us the whole story.

But it turns out, there wasn't a 'whole story.' Unfortunately, the story JJ had begun to tell in TFA became a separate story in TLJ and a third separate story in TROS.

Or the OT version, where Luke one day wasn't a farmboy anymore and was told he could learn to use the force, then he infiltrated the Death Star, saved a princess, and jumped in an X-Wing for the first time and used the force to blow up said Death Star.

    Rinse, wash, repeat....

    Definitely.

As well, I still hold that, while Star Wars 1977 is one of my icons of cinema, it has the worst Chekhov's Gun ever in the classic teir list of movies.

Arthur meets Merlin. Merlin teaches Arthur to use a sword by magic. Arthur... blows up enemy fortress with a bomb by magic.

    Cheers
    Jayson

I'm okay with being quoted but the part of my quote that was used made it sound like I had problems with TFA or with Rey---I did not.

My full quote was: Could fans nitpick about various aspects of it (i.e Rey's abilities with no training), sure. But personally I didn't concern myself with them ...

Didn't say you did! At any rate, fixed your whole quote, didn't intend to make it look like I was taking something out of context. My bad!

Agreed! SW1977 will always be my favorite, at least it still is now. But it's not a perfect film.

We don't love it because it's perfect. It's perfect because we love it.

And on that same note, let me get back on topic and re-state that TLJ is my favorite of the ST for the same reason. Not perfect, but perfect for me.

I loved Luke versus Kylo...how he essentially won the fight without even being there, and it was totally in character for the man who defeated the Emperor with love, not hate.
